Major Indoor Soccer League
Less than two months after becoming the Milwaukee Wave's president and CEO, Sue Black now owns the Major Indoor Soccer League team.
Black purchased the team from Milwaukee-area businessman Jim Lindenberg, a deal announced at a news conference Wednesday. Terms of the sale were not announced.
Statistically, Nick Vorberg was the top goalkeeper in the Major Indoor Soccer League this season.
Team management from across the league and selected media members agreed with that assessment.
The 38-year-old Vorberg was named to the All-MISL first team on Tuesday, the second time the Milwaukee Wave keeper has earned such an honor.
Twice on Sunday, the Milwaukee Wave were seconds away from advancing to the Major Indoor Soccer League finals.
But they just couldn't close out the persistent Missouri Comets.
Leo Gibson scored with 37 seconds left to give the Comets a 9-8 victory in Game 2 of the teams' semifinal series, and Byron Alvarez drove home the game-winner with 4 seconds remaining as Missouri won the subsequent mini-game 5-4 at U.
The two players who have been lighting it up offensively for the Milwaukee Wave recently made sure the team heads into the postseason on a roll.
Ian Bennett had two goals and an assist and Nick Perera scored for the fifth straight game as the Wave closed out the Major Indoor Soccer League regular season with an 8-6 win over the Wichita Wings on Sunday afternoon at U.
The math is pretty simple for the Milwaukee Wave:
Win all four of their remaining games and they'll be the Major Indoor Soccer League regular-season champions and the top seed for the playoffs. Lose any of them and they'll have to settle for the No. 2 seed behind the Baltimore Blast.
A 10-6 loss to the host Blast on Saturday night eliminated any margin of error for Milwaukee, which has beaten Baltimore to win each of the past two MISL titles.
The Milwaukee Wave are in first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League and are riding a team-record 16-game winning streak thanks in large part to their dominating defense.
But the two-time defending league champions could use a little more in the attack, a point coach Keith Tozer addressed Tuesday with the signing of forward Bryan Perez.
Playing at home for the last time in nearly three weeks, the Milwaukee Wave kept their winning streak alive.
Israel Sesay and Nick Perera scored two goals apiece as the Wave fended off the Rochester Lancers 14-11 in a Major Indoor Soccer League match watched by 5,321 fans on Sunday afternoon at U.
The Milwaukee Wave maintained their lead atop the Major Indoor Soccer League standings on Saturday night – and set a franchise record in the process.
Jonatan Santos scored twice and goalkeeper Marcel Feenstra stopped 14 of 16 shots and picked up an assist as the Wave beat the Chicago Soul 9-5 in front of 4,934 at U.
Josh Rife's fourth-quarter penalty helped the Baltimore Blast tie up Saturday's match against the Milwaukee Wave.
But the defender made up for it, scoring the game-winner on a power play 40 seconds into overtime as the Wave got past the Blast 10-8 for their 10th consecutive win and moved into first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.
The Milwaukee Wave will start their quest for a third consecutive Major Indoor Soccer League
title Nov. 9 at the Wichita Wings, with their home opener two days later.
The 2012-13 MISL schedule was announced Friday by United Soccer Leagues. The league once again
will consist of seven teams – the Chicago Soul has been added, replacing the departed Norfolk
SharX – and teams will play 26 regular-season games, two more than last season.
With the state in the clutches of a heat wave, watching soccer outdoors might be a bit
uncomfortable right now.
No worry – head inside for the Milwaukee Wave's third annual Summer Game.
The two-time defending Major Indoor Soccer League champions will play host to the league's
newest team, the Chicago Soul, on Wednesday at U.
Longtime Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg is getting further involved in
Milwaukee-area soccer.
Marquette men's coach Louis Bennett named Vorberg a volunteer assistant on
Thursday, with his primary duties to train and mentor the Golden Eagles' goalkeepers and instruct
at the program's camps.
Milwaukee Wave forward Nick Perera and midfielder Matt Stewart are among 18
players called into a U.S. Futsal National Team camp that starts Sunday in Torrance, Calif.
U.S. coach Keith Tozer, who led Milwaukee to its second consecutive Major Indoor Soccer
League title earlier this month, also invited a familiar face in Wichita Wings midfielder Angel
Rivillo – he previously played with the Wave and the Milwaukee Rampage.
Joe Hammes (Cedarburg/Milwaukee Marquette) scored a truly golden goal Sunday.
The veteran defender took a pass from Marco Terminesi off a restart and ripped a shot
past Baltimore Blast goalkeeper Sagu 46 seconds into overtime to lift the Milwaukee Wave to
a 12-10 victory, giving the team its second consecutive Major Indoor Soccer League
championship.
The Milwaukee Wave is halfway to a second straight Major Indoor Soccer League championship after
a dominating performance.
Marcio Leite had a hat trick, scoring three consecutive goals, and Marcel Feenstra
stopped 11 of 12 shots as the Wave routed the host Baltimore Blast 14-2 in Game 1 of the MISL
Championship Series in front of 6,072 Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena.
Milwaukee Wave teammates Nick Vorberg and Luan Oliveira were honored by the Major Indoor Soccer League for the second consecutive day.
Vorberg was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Year for the second time, while Oliveira was lauded as Rookie of the Year.
