The Global Game: Watching The Premier League In Pakistan - originally posted on
Soccerlens.com
Earlier this week I came across the 'Global Game' initiative launched by Nick Harris (Mail on
Sunday, Sporting Intelligence). It's a great idea, hopefully it catches on and more and more people
from different parts of the world who follow football (and especially the English Premier League)
can contribute to it.
It's not often that I agree with a Man United player, but Gary Neville's recent assessment of the
England team is pretty spot on in my view, and its refreshing to see such blunt honesty. In his
column for the Mail on Sunday, Neville offered the following withering assessment of the England
team: "The real issue is that the spine of the team is not good enough, as it stands, to take on

George Graham may have managed both Arsenal and Spurs and won trophies for both clubs, but if you
were to ask him who he holds a torch for the answer would most definitely be Arsenal. He has been
speaking to the Mail on Sunday about the game today and he thinks that Spurs are the [...]
Now I know newspapers like to sell extra copies with their headlines, but the one in today's Mail
on Sunday takes a little bit of believing. It reads, "Man City planning £30m raid for
disillusioned Arsenal skipper Van Persie." Told you it would take some believing. The report in the
Mail on Sunday says that [.
According to beloved ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville, Liverpool deliberately tried to
‘deprive' Man United of the title in 2010 by ‘easing off' against Chelsea at the tail-end of
Premier league season.
At the time, Liverpool and Man United both had 18 league titles apiece, and a victory over Chelsea
would've handed United the advantage in the race for the title.
Craig Bellamy is ready to turn his back on the chance to return to Liverpool in order to sign for
Spurs.
Manchester City's forgotten striker was reported to be on his way to Anfield on a free transfer,
after Reds boss Kenny Dalglish indicated he could be the right man to provide cover for Luis
Suarez.

According to the latest news, Manchester United could be about to miss out on Samir Nasri, who is
expected to sign for Manchester City along with Gael Clichy in a deal worth £27m. It was a
different story last week with media reports claiming that Ferguson was confident of signing the
Frenchman. However, over the weekend that scenario didn't seem likely after the Mail on Sunday ran
a story in
In a bid to bolster his often-injured back line, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been in hot
pursuit of Blackburn center back Christopher Samba. Now, however, it appears the Gunners are set to
miss out on the giant Congolese player.
Blackburn's owners the Venky Group have confirmed that they would like to hold on to Samba, with
chairperson Anuradha Desai has called on her prized asset to stay at Ewood Park for one more
year.
The Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson thought he had got a bargain at £16.5m when he
matched the buy-out clause for Blackburn's Phil Jones, but the Blackburn owners have launched a
legal challenge to try and stop Jones from leaving Ewood Park.
Now it seems that the Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has decided to bid £22m to get the England
youngster to move to Anfield instead, despite Jones completing a medical at Old Trafford and
agreeing personal terms with United.
According to a report this morning, the German giants Bayern Munich have decided to challenge Man
Utd's bid to sign the Arsenal contract rebel Samir Nasri. The Mail on Sunday says that Munich have
£200m to spend in the transfer market after several years of making massive profits, and they are
willing to spend big [.
Joe Cole looks set to be reunited with Harry Redknapp, amid reports Spurs and Liverpool have agreed
a £3 million transfer fee.
The England midfielder was a target for Tottenham last summer when he left Chelsea on a free
transfer, but eventually opted to sign a lucrative four-year contract at Anfield.

Until now, all official inquiries into what's wrong with English football governance have
foundered in the face of the English Premier League's latest version of "mind your own business."
But in the first oral evidence session of the Culture, Media and Sport select committee on football
governance, contributors were prepared – mentally and practically – to get to the heart of the
problem, namely the Premier League's inflated sense of its own importance.
Sian Massey, the female assistant referee who impressed many on her sophomoric Premier League
appearance Saturday, has been the victim of several alleged sexist comments made by Sky Sports
presenters Richard Keys and Andy Gray according to Mail On Sunday newspaper.
During Saturday's match at Wolverhampton Wanderers's Molineux ground, Massey correctly ruled
that Liverpool's Fernando Torres was onside for the opening goal against Wolves.
In what might be a first for a Premier League team, it appears that Blackburn Rovers new Indian
owners Venky have guaranteed manager Steve Kean that he will not be sacked for the two-and-ahalf
years of his contract with the Premier League club.
Anuradha Desai, head of the Venky's company, told the Mail on Sunday:
"Steve Kean will be safe in his job for the duration of that contract.
