While I'm relatively certain that most dedicated followers of MLS will know what United are
getting with the likes of Maicon Santos and Danny Cruz, there's still an element of mystery
surrounding the acquisitions from the mid-tier Euro-leagues. Most of us see precious little from
Swiss or Austrian clubs outside of perhaps the odd Europa League highlight.
It was only about three weeks ago when United's rabid and passionate fanbase was ready to lay waste
to the front offices of their beloved D.C. United. After failing to make the playoffs for a fourth

D.C. United announced the teams latest signing, Brazilian forward and MLS veteran Maicon
Santos.

Washington, D.C. (January 18, 2012) – D.C. United announced today the team has acquired forward
Maicon Santos.
Finally another addition hits the roster with United's acquisition of Maicon Santos. In another
time, with a different club, I might be pleased with this pickup. As it stands, I'm just left
feeling suspicious.

While Santos has a reasonable history with the league (and so will not have to suffer through a
period of adapting to the style of play), his mediocre goal tally (14 goals in 2.

With Houston yet to play today, the Philadelphia Union suddenly have the second most prolific
offense in the East (tied for second most in all of MLS).
The Union scored six goals against a hapless Toronto FC defense. Gabe Farfan opened his account
in the 2nd minute and nine minutes later Justin Mapp doubled the lead.
D.C. United travels north of the border on Saturday night to take on division rivals Toronto FC at
BMO Field at 7:00 pm EST (match can be seen on Fox Soccer Channel) trying to pick up their first
road win ...
Charlie Davies' early goal and Joseph Ngwenya's second-half strike earned D.C. United a 2-2 draw
with Toronto FC tonight in Charleston, South Carolina to help the Black-and-Red to their second
