Highlights of the game, not that there were any really for Newcastle United fans in what was a poor
day for the Magpies. I will update these with longer, better highlights and also the post match
interviews when they become availabke.
Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson is aware that Tottenham Hotspur's terrific form
throughout the season indicates their prowess, particularly at White Hart Lane.
Following Monday night's goalless draw at Anfield, third-place Spurs return home and with
manager Harry Redknapp cleared of tax evasion charges, the North London outfit will be completely
focused on picking up all three points in Saturday's late kick-off.
Now that the dust has settled, here's a look at some of the transfers that took place during the
January transfer window, and see if we can separate the wheat from the chaff.
Whereas last season money was being splashed out on the likes of Fernando Torres and Andy
Carroll like a mad gambler who got his greasy mits on a load of free bets, the window this time
around was a lot more sensible, indicating a lot less value in the market.
Venue: St James'Park, NE1. Date: 5th February 2012 Kick Off: 1.30pm Referee: Mark Halsey. Well, it
was another three points in the bag for the Magpies as they passed the supposedly "magical" 40
point mark, with no less than 14 games of the Premiership season to go. Apart from this though, the
most obvious salient [.
So Newcastle's new signing Papiss Demba Cisse and fellow Senegalese team mate Demba Ba netted
goals for the Magpies in their 2-1 home win over Aston Villa yesterday. However, whats funny is
that the same two players could not do the same for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations.
And this is interesting because African players have a tendency to perform well for their clubs,
but when it comes to their national sides, it is a different story.
It wasn't surprising that Alan Pardew was delighted to see Papiss Cisse score a great goal on
his Newcastle debut this afternoon at St. James' Park. The two Dembas celebrate after Cisse goal
The two Senegal strikers showed what they are capable of this afternoon, with two opportunistic
goals for the Magpies, to give them all 3 points against a decent Aston Villa side.
Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has praised his side for their recent form, and is confident
about their chances in the coming weeks. The impressive Magpies have been boosted by the return of
Senegal striker Demba Ba, and is thrilled with his side's performance during the African Cup of
Nations.
Newcastle United are up to fifth in the Premier League after they beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0,
while Arsenal's poor run of form continues as they were held 0-0 at Bolton.
Newcastle are now just three points behind Chelsea and a UEFA Champions League place as the
Magpies leapfrog both Liverpool and Arsenal with the win.
Highlights of Newcastle United's 0-2 victory at Ewood Park, with the first being an own goal by
Blackburn's , with the Magpies' second coming from Gabriel Obertan after he picked up an excellent
pass into space by Peter Lovenkrands. I will update these with better / longer ones when they
become available, and also add [.
It was concerning to read that Liverpool were planning to offer Andy Carroll in a direct swap
deal with Carlos Tevez at the weekend.
At £35 million it is quite clear as far as the best bookmakers are concerned that the former
Newcastle forward has not lived up to what might have been expected of him at Anfield in the year
he has been with the club, but it is important to remember that he is still young.
Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has invited trouble after kicking out at Brighton &
Hove Albion left-back Adam El-Abd during the Magpies' 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup on Saturday.
The incident occurred in the second half following a tackle from El-Abd. Unfortunately for the
27-year old defender, the tussle ended with a bloody lip.

Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 Newcastle United FA Cup 29th January 2012
Oh how Newcastle boss Alan Pardew must be counting down the hours 'til his double dose of
Dembas, Ba and Papiss Cisse, return to the north-east of England.
Highlights of the game in what was ultimately a disappointing day at the seaside for the Magpies as
they crashed out of the FA Cup without scoring a goal. As usual, I will post better / longer
highlights, as well as post match interviews when they become available (and if you can bear it!).

The transfer rumours involving Spurs are very slowly starting to spark into life with stories
that Roman Pavlyuchenko could be the first and possibly only departure from White Hart Lane this
summer.
Yesterday, Pav's vocal agent Oleg Artemov claimed that Spurs had extended the Russian's contract
until June 2013.

Fulham 5-2 Newcastle United Premier League 21 January 2012
"I gave a free-kick against you because I hate you and your big head of lovely big
hair"
Newcastle were always going to face their biggest test when the Africa Cup Of Nations robbed
them of two of their star performers this season, Demba Ba and Cheik Tioté, and judging on today's
result, the Magpies could face a difficult month.
Alan Pardew acknowledges that Newcastle United's 5-2 defeat at the hands of Fulham has left him
frustrated but defended his players, insisting that they have a lot to be proud of for their
overall showing this season.
Clint Dempsey's famous hat-trick and two second-half penalties from Danny Murphy and Bobby

The January transfer window is often a frenzied time with chairmen, managers and agents battling
against the clock to secure new players. As a result, many players who move during this period
often do so at over-inflated transfer fees and are hit-or-miss in terms of success.
Freiburg's Papiss Demba Cisse joins the Magpies for a reported £10m. Newcastle now sports a
Senegalese flavour to their team. The new no 9 joins countrymen Demba Ba and Cheikh Tiote, both
enjoying outstanding Premiership seasons. All three are at the ACN, so fans will get to see him
next month depending on how Senegal do in that competition.
Another Ba-rgain buy? Newcastle obviously think they've hit on a successful transfer formula, so
they're sticking to it. They've brought another Senegal international striker called Demba with a
history of playing in the Bundesliga. Papiss Demba Cisse has signed from Freiburg in a
five-and-a-half-year deal, for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region [.

How the Magpies' defense plays tomorrow will be an important factor in how we do against

Demba Ba is reported to be a transfer target for Liverpool, after it was claimed the Newcastle
United striker has a £10million release clause in his contract.
The Senegal international has been the signing of the season, having scored 15 Premier League goals
since his free transfer from West Ham to Newcastle in the summer.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has rejected reports that Andy Carroll could be set to leave
Anfield during the January transfer window.
