The Villa win – having not played that well, and right at the death, and thanks to a header (rare), and from a corner (plentiful but rarely fruitful) – was a deeply satisfying result. It's a game we may well previously have lost, but coming after the loss at Man City, it showed tremendous bouncebackability.

After Frank Lampard came on and scored the winner against Manchester City in the week, he was asked after the game about being on the bench the last couple of games. His response made headlines in the media and was spoken about on here. Lampard's response was of surprise as he said straight after the game:
"I want to play, simple as that, I'm as fit as I've ever been.

I'm leaving. No not permanently- much to the chagrin of some of you Liverpool stalkers. But I will be absent for the next month whilst I traverse the globe with my bride to be. I'm a mess of sorts. One part excited, equal parts nervous. To those of you that are married, you probably are all too acquainted with said feelings- and those of you that are not well, just use your powers of deduction to figure out what this might feel like.

I'm not sure if I can remember a day when I have felt so gutted by a result as I did today following Man City's 6-1 thrashing of Derby rivals Man Utd at Old Trafford. The only memories that come close take me back to 1978, when as a loyal Stretford Ender standing in the cold and the rain, I witnessed 5-3 and 3-0 thrashings by both West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool respectively within the space of 3-4 days around Christmas time.

Previously I've written about examining conversion rates and shots as a way of examining which areas an offense or defense excels at or is struggling with. Shots can be a crude estimation for opportunities and conversion rate and estimation of how well a team executes on those opportunities. I had looked at offense and defense separately in the past, but decided to combine the two to see if any interesting patterns emerged.
