Brazilian midfielder Denilson returns to the fold for Saturday's away trip to Sunderland. The
21-year-old has been missing from the squad for a couple of months with a back problem, but
Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Denilson, along with Lukasz Fabianski, Carlos Vela,
and Armand Traore, will return for the weekend's game.

Well, I would be if I were one of those players having to play tonight and some nutter came
sliding in towards me with a hard tackle in mind! We cannot afford any more injuries and the loss
of any of the players mentioned below would be just awful. It doesn't even bare thinking about!
Even Sir Bobby Pires is concerned for us, but still believes we have enough strength and depth
to get through this tough time.

Whilst I think the Big Swiss is not the same defender that was derided when he first hit the
scene I still don't think he has much of a future at the club.

This happened a couple of days ago, but, you know...(shrugs). 15 Arsenal players have been
called up for duty over the international break. The entire list can be found here.
Of the 15, only 5 Diaby, Gallas, and Sagna for France, Arshavin for Russia, and Song for
Cameroon are playing in meaningful senior international matches, as all of their nations are trying
to qualify for the World Cup.

With Lukasz Fabianski's injury, it is pretty unlikely that a single one of the players involved in
Wednesday's Carling Cup match will start the North London Derby tomorrow. As such, it is very
difficult to draw any great conclusions from the Liverpool match.
In terms of momentum, it will mean nothing - maybe it will inspire the players for the next round
but no more than that.

Nicklas Bendtner displayed his developing finesse to the fullest when he scored the powerful
decisive goal that condemned Liverpool to Carling Cup elimination on Wednesday evening. The Dane,
who is often criticized for lacking the dimension and attitude required at the highest level,
quietly continued the mission to silence his critics by cleverly latching onto a pass from Fran
Merida, who had earlier scored his maiden goal for the Gunners.

Carling Cup Fourth Round

by JAMES CURTIS Imagine breakfast in the Wenger household and you might hear Mrs Arsene snapping
at her husband's indecision whether or not to play his Young Guns against Liverpool tonight: "Oh
for heavens sake, let the kids play why wont you," she trumps.
It's a point well made, as for Arsenal fans the more exciting prospect of Carling Cup football
is the chance of seeing the talented youth in a real pressure setting.

Arsene Wenger has come out to declare in public his confidence in the current crop of goalkeepers
at his disposal. The Arsenal manager claims there is enough strength in the keepers on their books
to help them battle for trophies and upset the football odds both domestically and in Europe.

So almost without us (or me, anyway) even realizing it, we appear to possibly have a goalkeeping
controversy on our hands.
After Manuel Almunia went down a few games into the season with a "chest infection", and last
season's number two, Lukasz Fabianski, was also out with a long term injury, we had to hand the
gloves over to young Italian Vito Mannone.

Arsenal's goalkeeper stocks have risen with the return from injury of both Manuel Almunia and
Lukasz Fabianski.
First-choice shot-stopper Almunia has been out with a chest infection and is only rated a small
chance to return against Birmingham City this weekend but Fabianski, who has not played yet this
season, may be called on after recovering from knee surgery.

On the Thursday and Friday following an international break, the club generally goes into damage
assessment mode. The question is never, "Is anyone hurt?" But, rather, "Who is hurt, and for how
long?" Last month, I posted my recurring international break nightmare. It is also the time to
forgot all the "Cesc-to-anywhere-but-Arsenal" stories, which for some reason continue to get
Gooners all worked up.

Morning all. Let's get right to it then. Yesterday was the Champions League 3rd Round Qualifier

really think they need to.

As promised, here is the first installment of my player ratings for the season.
I think it's easiest to work through the team from the back, although no doubt I'll forget somebody
and have to include them later.
The way I rate players comes from my childhood: growing up playing Championship Manager: you have
to be dreadful to get below a 5, a 7 is a good game, an 8 is an excellent game, and to get a 9 one
has to do all but everything perfectly - maybe one misplaced pass; a 10 represents pure perfection.

Lukasz Fabianski's career at Arsenal resembles a rollercoaster ride. After a horrible game
against Chelsea came a very decent one against Liverpool. He wasn't criticized by the English
press, which simply means that he's not to blame for any of the goals. Fabianski's last game as
Gunners' nr 1 will probably be the one against Boro at the weekend.

At the end of the Liverpool game on Tuesday night the cameras did their usual bit of following the
players around. They focussed on Arshavin, rightly, but for a few moments they settled on Cesc

As they made their way to salute the Arsenal fans at the end of the ground the look on the
captain's face was one of frustration and unhappiness.

Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow night, following their FA Cup defeat at the hands of

Wenger's criticism of the pitch might have merit. Yes, the Wembley stadium operators could care
less as long as it holds the weight of 15,000 standing fans attending a concert by some aging
rockers but it should not deflect from his puzzling selection choices.
The pitch was the same for both clubs.
