He is one of the greatest keepers we've ever seen, there is no doubt about that. Â But instead
of showing of his complete awesome-ness in goal, I wanted to find a video of a goal he gave up to
Mexico sometime in the 90′s.  I remember seeing the goal on TV when it happened, but I don't
remember exactly what year or competition it was in.
The Scene: The 2001 MLS Cup Final featured the San Jose Earthquakes and the LA
Galaxy and was played before nearly 22,000 fans at Columbus Crew Stadium. It would be the second
MLS Cup Final to go into overtime, and when it was over, SJE hoisted their first Cup trophy, while
LAG had to settle for second once again.
Veteran Chivas USA and Mexican international defender Claudio Suarez considers himself a
"simple soccer player" who initially was dead set against writing his autobiography.
But the classy Suarez, respected for his modest demeanor off the field and his commanding
defensive presence on it, succumbed and the result is "Claudio Suarez: Portrait of a
Warrior.
Our series on the US at the World Cup continues with the second part of our look at the 1998
World Cup.
You can read more about US World Cup appearances in 1930 (part 1), 1930 (part 2), 1934,
1950, the 1950-1990 drought, 1990, 1994, and the lead up to 1998.
The US versus Mexico, round one: things are looking up
Just as had been the case in Costa Rica, when the US hosted Mexico at Foxboro Stadium on April
20, they twice had to come from behind to equalize.
He was supposed to change MLS and soccer in America forever. David Beckham's signing in January
2007 with the LA Galaxy was supposed to elevate his new club and by extension its league to heights
never experienced before. Eighteen months later all parties (except AEG, the Galaxy's owners who
have made a killing off the Beckham name) must ponder whether it was really worthwhile.
The Under-19 United States National Team will be participating in the Stuttgart Junior Cup, the US
Soccer Federation announced on Tuesday. The format is an indoor six-a-side tournament similar to
futsal. With that format in mind, the United States is opting for Futsal National Team assistant
coach Mark Litton.

One of these two players - seen here at the World Cup - will take the field in Carson Saturday
in a charity game. Sadly, it's not the little fella on the right (AP Photo).
Who knew?
Certainly no one in the English language soccer press since a press release about Saturday's
charity game featuring international stars past and present - that's in just five days time - only
went out today and as near as I can tell was not sent to anyone remotely connected with the sport
(I received mine from a colleague who covers Redondo Beach.
Minnesotan Tony Sanneh Plays in USA v Mexico Reunion Game
Last Saturday in that Sun Bowl at El Paso, Texas, you may have had a hard time convincing some
retired US and Mexican National Team soccer players that "time heals old wounds." A USA vs Mexico
Reunion match was held in which some of those countries former National team stars got to lace up
the cleats one more time and enter back into competition between the North American neighbors.
