Dear Rafa ‘Psycho’ Benitez

All Four One, and One Four All! 16 November @ 01:58 PM EST

Warning : This could be boring

The Past few weeks have seen the worst crisis period of your wonderful career. There are times I used to think what made you quit as a Valencia coach and join Liverpool. You had two La Liga titles and a Uefa cup glory with a meek Valencia side.

EXCLUSIVE – The real cost of XABI ALONSO and LUIS GARCIA’S Liverpool transfers

Liverpool Kop 15 November @ 09:01 AM EST
Yesterday, I looked at the real cost of Jan Kromkamp's transfer to Liverpool. Today, I attempt to establish the true cost of Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia, two of Rafa Benitez's most successful signings.
At the time of both transfers, the BBC reported that Garcia cost 6m, but in their report for Alonso's transfer, a fee was not specified. Click to continue reading...

Why was XABI ALONSO banned from publishing a goodbye letter to Liverpool's fans?

Liverpool Kop 15 November @ 09:01 AM EST
It has been revealed that Xabi Alonso may have been prevented from writing an open-letter to Liverpool's fans when he left the club. Given the Spaniard's contribution to the club, I find this to be very disappointing.
Both John Arne Riise and Luis Garcia wrote open letters to Liverpool fans when they left the club, both of which were published on the official Liverpool FC website. Click to continue reading...

Brilliant Rafa Benitez

Crimson Corpus of Liverpool Football Club 02 November @ 09:50 AM EST
This is something I saw at Kopblog, posted by a true fan who did a very good research. Â Maybe some of us might see what's it is like for Rafa and how brilliant he has been for us.
2004/05
£2m - Josemi: peanuts and was moved on in a swap for Kromkamp 18 months later
£1.5m - Antonio Nunez: part of the Michael Owen deal and filled a gap for a while. Click to continue reading...

Rafa Benitez has spent over £220m at Liverpool. Time to put up or shut up.

Liverpool Kop 13 October @ 04:37 AM EST
There has been a lot of heated debate about Rafa's signings and overall effectiveness since the ‘leaked' conversation between George Gillett and a member of the ‘Spirit of Shankly' group. How much cash has Rafa really spent since becoming manager and how much has he brought back in through sales? Click to continue reading...

Top Five Liverpool Wins Against Chelsea

The Flat Back Four 01 October @ 11:48 AM EST
As Liverpool prepares for the trip to Stamford Bridge to face arch rivals Chelsea in Sunday's Premiership match, it would be fair to think of Chelsea as the favourites. Considering that Liverpool had a terrible European night losing to Fiorentina, they would want to put things right against Chelsea. The Blues also have the added incentive of putting the Wigan defeat to rest and will hope to rise to the occasion. Click to continue reading...

Que Mal Que Marca El Madrid

La Liga Talk 14 September @ 01:09 AM EST

("How poorly Madrid are defending.")

Espanyol 0-3 Real Madrid
0-1 Granero, 39'
0-2 Guti, 77'
0-3 Ronaldo, 90'

This was a constant refrain from the Spanish language announcers and the theme of most of the match, as the Merengues struggled to hold their nerve at the back, occasionally looking as porous as SpongeBob Square Pants in defense.

Birthday Boy: Gabriel Milito

Barcelista 07 September @ 08:29 AM EST
Barca's other curly-haired centerback, Gabriel Milito, has been out with his knee injury for a million years now, and could well be out for a trillion years more, but we won't be forgetting him anytime soon! Gaby is in our hearts as he turns twenty-nine today, and with his birthday comes and interesting development. Click to continue reading...

What might have been: No 1 - Liverpool FC's biggest missed opportunity?

Liverpool Kop 20 August @ 07:26 AM EST
Liverpool FC has lost out on many great players over the years, but the most regrettable missed opportunity is arguably Danish maestro Michael Laudrup. The club had two chances to sign this footballing magician, but failed on both occasions. Why did the club miss out and what impact would Laudrup (theoretically) have had? Fernando Torres: The Next Golden Boot?

EPL Talk 13 August @ 01:18 PM EST

Why do I care about the Golden Boot? What does it matter to me as a lover of a club? The Golden Boot doesn't guarantee titles (eh, Mr Anelka?) or even European placement (eh, Mr Phillips?) It is glory for the individual in a collective endeavor and should be a mere footnote to the supporter who hungers for team glory.

Soccerblog 06 August @ 07:58 PM EST

The CL draw will take place today. The choices are Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, Celtic FC, RSC Anderlecht, and FC Timisoara. So who will it be?

Fiorentina: The Violas were in the news recently with a possible Felipe Melo transfer to Arsenal which fell through. He eventually went to Juve. The club finished fourth in the Serie.

Oh, You Beauty... 04 August @ 01:08 PM EST
Well, subject to a medical of course (of course!), Alonso's finally been sold to Real Madrid. In other earth-shattering news, the sky's still blue.
The sum of the text on the official website, in sum, is thus:
Liverpool Football Club this evening confirmed they had reached agreement for the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, subject only to a medical.

Liverpool Did Not Deserve To Beat Espanyol - Rafa Benitez

Anfield Talk 03 August @ 04:56 AM EST
Liverpool lost 3-0 to Espanyol tonight, as the La Liga outfit celebrated their first game in the new Estadi Cornella-El Prat in style, with goals from Luis Garcia and a brace from Ben Sahar sealing an impressive victory for the hosts.

Espanyol 3-0 Liverpool Highlights (Video)

Caught Offside 03 August @ 02:46 AM EST

Steven Gerrard hit the woodwork twice so it's not like Rafa's men were outclassed but their defence did seem flat footed throughout and former Chelsea man Ben Sahar scored two tap ins after poor defending and Luis Garcia scored the other (not the former Liverpool one).

Mr and Mrs: The Alonsos

Anyone else getting a little footy-wedding weary? What are we up to now, sixty, seventy-thousand already this summer?

Perhaps we're feeling the strain because one of our favourite guys tied the knot over the weekend. Xabi Alonso married his girlfriend Nagore Aramburu, who just so happens to be the mother of his adorable son, Jon.

Pumas, presente glorioso…¿futuro promisorio?

FutblogMexicano 01 June @ 05:12 PM EST

Atléti arrive in Åland

Nordic Fotoball News 27 May @ 05:28 AM EST

ÅLAND'S archipelago is a beautiful place in summer, a holidaying hotspot and a major attraction for visitors to Finland. You can cycle across the islands, swim in the Gulf of Bothnia, or stay at any one of numerous campsites in Finland's autonomous province, but it's safe to say that Atlético Madrid will be doing none of those things during their visit.

A little bit of history repeating

View from the Terraces 07 May @ 07:13 AM EST

Another Champions League semi-final, another season of near misses all but complete for Chelsea fans. Even victory over Everton in the FA Cup would do little to make up for another 12 months of thwarted dreams. I never thought I would say this, but I can almost sympathise with Didier Drogba's reaction.

Benitez To Hiddink - No Mind Games Ahead of Champions League Bout

Anfield Talk 07 April @ 05:08 AM EST
It was somewhat inevitable that Liverpool and Chelsea were going to be pitted against one another in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Reds and the Blues face-off for the fifth consecutive season in Europe's premier club competition but, unlike the grapples Rafa Benitez shared with Blues bosses of the past, he expects no war of words with current Chelsea interim manager, Guus Hiddink. Click to continue reading...
