Dominic Kinnear teams always compete, always and the 2009 edition of the Houston Dynamo looked
very similar to the ones we've seen win league titles over the last few years. Even though the
Dynamo lost their big star in the midfield in a trade to Toronto before the season started everyone
knew this team would still compete.

Houston has plenty of guys worth protecting here. (Getty Images)
Today we move another day closer to the 2009 expansion draft. Now we turn our focus to the
Houston Dynamo.
The Dynamo are a tough team to figure out due to the number of quality players that are both
young and old.

Two 15 minute halves.
Few clear cut chances in the second half with both teams knowing one mistake could settle this
one.
Dynamo sub Luis Angel Landin had the ball in the net in the 80th minute (actually it was Andrew
Hainault), but the goal was disallowed for Landin's foul on A.

This match promises to be a dogfight. The season series between the Los Angeles Galaxy and the
Houston Dynamo featured exactly one goal and a lot of physical defending. If that sounds a lot like
what Chivas and the Galaxy went through for the bulk of their five games this season, its not
coincidence.

I'm happy for Salt Lake fans and all, but let's face it, Columbus losing is going to have some
horrifying consequences.
(1) Some may suggest that Frankie Hejduk should not be on the World Cup roster next year. What,
just because, contrary to what I predicted, he played perhaps the single biggest role in the Crew
losing?

The Seattle Sounders will make their MLS playoff debut tonight against the two-time MLS Cup
champion Houston Dynamo in the opening match of their Western Conference playoff series (10pm,
ESPN2).
The Sounders are new to the playoffs as a club, but have plenty of experience across the board,
from two-time MLS Cup-winning coach Sigi Schmid, to European soccer veterans Kasey Keller and
Freddie Ljungberg.

The Houston Dynamo's 2009 regular season came to an end on Sunday as they beat Chivas USA 3-2 at

Galaxy fans will be watching this one as closely as Chivas USA supporters given that the clubs
will meet next Sunday should Houston beat or tie the home team.
A half dozen changes for Preki today after Chivas USA's rather meek 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire
last time out.
Carey Talley and Ante Jazic replace Mariano Trujillo and Jonathan Bornstein at full back
respectively, with Bornstein sliding into the middle in place of Shavar Thomas who drops to the
bench.

Big time weekend ahead for Major League Soccer. Four clubs have punched their tickets to the
post season dance with four remaining spots left open to possibly all get snatched up this
weekend.
You can pretty much put a playoff implication on every game this weekend.

Going into Sunday's home match against the Kansas City Wizards, the Houston Dynamo knew the
needed a result to secure their fourth straight playoff berth since moving to the Bayou City, but
when forward Cam Weaver received a red card in the 17th minute hopes of an easy victory were
quickly dashed.

Yes Kansas City played better yesterday than their last game against Colorado; yes they could
have won to keep the slim playoff hopes alive. But NO we didn't win; no we didn't finish off a team
that played almost 70 minutes a man down and missing one of their best players; no, we aren't that
much better with Peter Vermes than we were with Curt Onalfo; and no Peter Vermes should NOT survive
the house cleaning that should take place in KC this offseason.

After Cam Weaver was sent off only 17 minutes into the match, Luis Angel Landin got his first goal
for the Houston Dynamo less than 10 minutes later before the Kansas City Wizards equalized in the
second half Sunday at Robertson Stadium. "I think if we keep 11 men of the field, we win it pretty
handily," said Dynamo defender
Bobby Boswell.

It's getting close to just saying "let's prepare for 2010". After today's result down in Houston,
the Wizards playoff hopes get even more faint. Up a man for over 70 minutes, the Wizards had to
fight back from a goal down to salvage a draw against the Houston Dynamo this afternoon.
KC came out and tried to push the game from the start getting into Houston's end multiple times
early on.

After what appeared to be a whole mess of home cookin' the last time these two teams faced
eachother, the weather seems to favor the road team this time around. Here's a brief lesson in
climatology... Arabe Unido hails from Colon, a city in Panama that averages 129 inches of rain each
year. Houston averages 54 inches per year.

I guess you could really say its just been a rather slow week in terms of news. Sure rosters
were finalized on Tuesday night for the rest of the year and the league announced their big break
next summer but other than that it's been rather calm in Major League Soccer this week.

Recently there has been some chatter that the Houston Dynamo will have a big announcement this
week. Since the Dynamo signed Mexican forward Luis Angel Landin on Thursday, its seems that this
will be one of three things: an announcement related to the 2010 MLS All-Star Match, an
announcement related to the potential friendly against either Club America or Chivas in October, or
an announcement related to the construction of a soccer specific stadium for the Houston
Dynamo.
