It's time for a quick roundup of the action from the Argentine foreign legion in Italy, Spain,
Mexico and Portugal, as Lionel Messi found the net after four games without a goal, Chelo Delgado
scored a fine goal in Mexico, ... Continue reading →
It's been a good while since the last lot of Argentines Abroad, partly because of the Claudio Yacob
exclusive on Tuesday night, partly because of an enormous storm in Buenos Aires over the last 24
hours which left me stranded ... Continue reading →
Another weekend passed some time ago now, and illness during the week combined with the recording
of a couple of Hand Of Pod specials is the reason this post is going up late, but we've news of
Lionel Messi's return ... Continue reading →
The weekend just gone saw as many crucial contributions from Argentines as ever in the world's
biggest leagues, and a welcome return to form for the usual suspects in the Mexican league after
last week's no-show. With the usual contributions ... Continue reading →
As ever, there were a number of Argentine goals during the weekend just gone in leagues across
Europe. Oddly, there were none in Mexico this weekend (for the first time since I began accepting
contributions for this post!), so Tom ... Continue reading →
Because I've had a somewhat disjointed week of deadlines not being what they normally are,
Argentines Abroad is going up ridiculously late this week. All the same, I did receive the normal
dispatches from France, Mexico, Portugal and Spain, so here ... Continue reading →
It was another packed weekend in which Argentines around the world had a big say in footballing
matters, so here's another dose of Argentines Abroad. Sergio Agüero hit a hat-trick for Manchester
City, Fernando Belluschi for Porto and Javier Pastore ... Continue reading →
Thiago Silva scored Milan's crucial equalizer in Barcelona on Tuesday
Concerns over FC Barcelona's defence continued after the first of this season's UEFA Champions
League matches were played throughout Europe last night.
The defending Spanish and European champions had home advantage in their Group H encounter
against AC Milan but were behind after just 25 seconds with Alexandre Pato scoring the fastest goal
ever scored in the competition.
O médio formado no Grêmio
de Porto Alegre recebeu 17 dos 87 votos, tendo levado a melhor sobre os argentinos Di Maria (10
votos), Lisandro López e Lucho González, ambos com 9.
That's not the best headline I'll ever put up on HEGS, I realise, but it is a fairly accurate one,
at least. There were a fair few impressive performances by Argentina's foreign legion during the
weekend just gone, as action ... Continue reading →
This isn't going to be a very complete Argentines Abroad post, because I've been very busy so far
this week, and of course Spain and Italy both have yet to get underway properly, but two of our
regular contributors from last ... Continue reading →
The twenty-ninth episode of Hand Of Pod is, as the milkmaid said to the parson, quite a whopper.
That's largely because Sam, Australian Dan and Seba have not one but two rounds of Torneo Apertura
matches to look back on, ... Continue reading →
Hours after announcing his first Argentina domestic squad for the double-header of friendlies
against Brazil next month, Alejandro Sabella has announced his first Argentina senior squad. These
players will form the teams to take on Venezuela in Calcutta and Nigeria ... Continue reading →
This piece is the first of a new 'round table' feature which will be appearing here on HEGS and
other Argentine football blogs across the internet. Every now and then (probably roughly every two
weeks) someone will propose a bunch of ... Continue reading →
Long-term HEGS readers will remember that in 2007, 2008 and 2009 I ran an award to find the Best
Argentine Abroad according to my readers. This year, in an attempt to widen the voting, the award
(which in 2009 was the ... Continue reading →
The domestic football season has now come to an end across Europe, and also in Mexico. Argentines
have been key to the denouements of leagues and cups across western Europe, so here's the rundown
of who's won what from ... Continue reading →
This week saw confirmation on Tuesday that two Argentines Carlos Tevez and Pablo Zabaleta will
feature in next season's European Cup; at least assuming Tevez stays with Manchester City, who beat
Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 to confirm a top ... Continue reading →
There wasn't a great deal of Argentine action last weekend, which is part of the reason this
edition of Argentines Abroad is going online so late. Carlos Tevez hobbled out of Manchester City's
Premier League game against Liverpool early on ... Continue reading →
Argentines Abroad is late this week because my birthday on Monday has ended up being celebrated in
some form or another for what seems like most of the week so far. It's well worth getting this
online now though, however ... Continue reading →
This weekend sees Argentina face the United States of America in a friendly on Saturday, so this
week's Argentines Abroad acts as a bit of a prelude to that, in many ways. One player not included
in Sergio Batista's squad ... Continue reading →
In Italy, Rodrigo Palacio hit a double for Genoa in an incredible comeback from 3-0 down at home to
Roma, in which he helped his side to a 4-3 win. In England, Carlos Tevez helped Manchester City add
some gloss ... Continue reading →
He's not in Argentina's squad to face Portugal on Wednesday, of course, but Carlos Tevez celebrated
his birthday on Saturday with a first half hat trick against West Brom for Manchester City, and on
the very same day the world's ... Continue reading →
