A wonder goal from Johnny Black helped Coleraine FC win their latest match at home to Portadown FC in the Northern Ireland Premiership.

His goal helped restore parity to the game after the visitors took the lead through Kevin Braniff in the fifth minute of the game. Following Black's wonder goal in the 17th minute Tim Mouncey put Portadown back in front with just three minutes of the first half remaining only for the home side to equalize in stoppage time through Shane Jennings.

What Do You Think of the Portland Timbers Off-season So Far? [Poll]

Stumptown Footy at related • 1 view

The international transfer window close a couple days ago. This doesn't mean too much, but it is a milestone in that MLS teams can no longer actively seek in-contract trades with other teams outside MLS. Still, the roster freeze date isn't until March 1st so we may yet still see more moves made, even if it isn't Juan David Duque (Franck Songo'o?

Roster News! Troy Perkins, David Horst Re-Signed, Others Dropped

One thing right after another today. With the sad news of Kevin Goldthwaite's retirement -- due to, I suspect, injuries -- comes more roster news with a couple re-signings and some other, sadly enough, players dropped.

The first bit of news is very welcome to me, personally, as both our star goalkeeper Troy Perkins and up and coming center back defender David Horst were re-signed to new contracts of which we're not quite sure about the details.

As many of you know Portland lost to West Bromich Albion 3-2 on Wednesday night. I was going to try and put up a recap but didn't have my computer at the game and came home to a very sick little boy and stayed up way too late last night. So I am just going to voice some thoughts and observations from the game.

With the cancellation of the Reserve League Playoffs, as reported by Kelly McLain over at Timbers Insider, the Portland Timbers' inaugural season in the Reserve League is now officially over.

The MLS Reserve League was created in 2005 to help teams develop young talent and keep lesser used players fresh, but it was canceled after the 2008 season because of a lack of funding.

The Portland Timbers trained at Jeld-Wen Field on Monday in positive spirits two days removed from their 0-0 draw in Philadelphia.

Futty Danso appeared to be at near full strength as he participated in the short field 8v8 two-touch scrimmage. Also participating in the scrimmage was John Spencer, which is reportedly a regular occurrence at the practice after a match.

Timbers Tid Bits: Play Off Push Edition

With last night's win the Portland Timbers have proven that they're still very much interested in getting into the play offs this year. A couple weeks ago I had (almost) counted them out entirely. I don't think I've ever been happier to be proven wrong. Of course, the race isn't over yet. The Timbers have a lot of fighting left to do to actually secure a spot.

Fire forward Gaston Puerari -- ISI PhotosLast year's Chicago Fire squad was a middle-of-the-pack MLS team on the offensive end, scoring 37 goals in 30 games. The summer transfer window has finally come to a close, Alan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas both joined from Tottenham to complete our squad for the coming season.

Hutton joins on a four year contract and will be Luke Young's natural replacement, especially with news of Eric Lichaj's hip injury keeping him out for the next four months.

Aston Villa 2 Hereford 0: Lichaj and Delfouneso with late goals

Aston Villa Central at related • 1 view

Just over 21,000 saw Villa earn their place in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup the hard way thanks to a late goal each from Eric Lichaj (80′) and Nathan Delfouneso (88′) from the bench.

It's a game I've yet to see anything from first hand, but it sounds like we dominated the game pretty much in the manner you'd expect over a struggling League Two side, but were frustrated by some fine goalkeeping from 20 year old loanee, David Cornell.

Derby 2 Aston Villa 0: Young side goes down at Pride Park

Two second half goals gave Derby the win in a game missing a lot of our big names, including new boy Charles N'Zogbia, but provided a useful, if uninspiring, run out for a lot of young squad players.

This post is more a stake in the ground to record the result, I managed to pick up very little during what was very much a low key, perhaps even dull, affair.

The last time D.C. United came to Toyota Park was on October 16, 2010. It was Brian McBride's last home game and it turned out to be C.J. Brown's last home game too. 306 days is a long time but it feels even longer ago, more distant. The lineup for that game was Andrew Dykstra; Steve Kinney, Wilman Conde, Kwame Watson-Siriboe, Deris Umanzor; Bratislav Ristic, Logan Pause, Peter Lowry, Marco Pappa; Brian McBride, Patrick Nyarko.
