Former U.S. Under-17 national team defender Mobi Fehr will find out which MLS team he will join on Tuesday, and three Western Conference teams are in the running.
The Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders will be vying for Fehr in a weighted lottery MLS will hold on Tuesday.
Marcus Tracy created a bit of a media storm when he signed with Major League Soccer earlier this week. And why not? Tracy won the 2008 Hermann Trophy (college soccer's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy). The American forward spurned MLS in 2009 and signed a contract with Danish club AaB. If Tracy would have signed with MLS, he likely would have been the first pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.
The lottery was scheduled for 10:00 AM EST, but it wasn't until around noon that sources began to leak the results of the eight-team sweepstakes for the services of Hermann Trophy winner and former Houston Dynamo draft pick Marcus Tracy. MLSsoccer.com has finally confirmed what we all have known for about an hour and a half: the New England Revolution, despite holding a 33.
I spend more time than I should trying to understand MLS' rules when it comes to player acquisitions. I do this because the rules as a whole aren't exactly that straight forward, with the draft, "college protection", discovery claims, allocations, and the like, it can be hard for the casual fan to understand exactly what is going on.
Come Thursday morning, Marcus Tracy will have an MLS team to call his home.
The weighted lottery for the former Wake Forest standout, Hermann Trophy winner and Aalborg BK striker will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday.Of the 17 eligible teams for the lottery (Vancouver and Colorado are prohibited after winning the rights to Lee Nguyen and Kamani Hill earlier this season), eight are participating, MLS announced Wednesday evening.
As I expected when Emory was waived last week, Colorado added on of their trialists today.
Midfielder/forward Kamani Hill has been signed and will be available as soon as his ITC is received
from Germany (don't worry, there's no spurned club to throw a wrench into this one). Hill is a
former U.S. National Team forward who got 2 caps in 2007.
In less than three months, former U.S. National Team youth star Lee Nguyen went from prized
acquisition to roster casualty.
After signing with MLS in December and going to Vancouver via lottery many expected the
25-year-old midfielder to strengthen a squad that finished at the bottom of the table in 2011.
One of the biggest reported issues surrounding the New York Red Bulls over the last few seasons
is their goalkeeper situation. Bouna Coundoul was never the best option, neither was Greg Sutton or
Frank Rost.
Manager Hans Backe has made a couple decent moves this winter in goal but none that really
strike anyone following this league has something that will help their cause in being a MLS Cup
contender.
The teams participating in the Marcus Tracy lottery tomorrow morning have been confirmed, and it looks like the New England Revolution are part of a field of eight total teams. Happily, the New England Revolution have the highest possible chance of landing the former Wake Forest standout, rolling in with a 33.
While in Los Angeles, the Real Madrid superstar sat down with ESPN's Frank Leboeuf to talk about
'that' penalty shootout against Spain at Euro 2012 as well as his candidacy for this year's Ballon
D'Or. Here are some of the excerpts from that interview:
Maybe watching over 30 games of football in the last three weeks has left us a little frazzled
between the ears, but we worked under the assumption that there was a fixed order of penalty takers
to keep to in a shootout scenario. Apparently not so according to former-Premier League referee
Graham Poll.
Spain captain Iker Casillas insists the team are united in their desire to reach as many finals
as possible.
The reigning champions will face either Germany or Italy, who meet on Thursday, in the Euro 2012
showpiece on Sunday after squeezing past Portugal on penalties.
Spain's style of retaining possession at all costs has been labelled boring by some critics, but
Casillas is just happy to be in the position to win a third successive major tournament.
A handful of attacking statistics for the eight teams to qualify for the knock-out rounds seems an
apt illustration of where England stands after the quarterfinals.
Congratulations, you're better than Greece and the Czech Republic! And a couple other countries in
a couple of categories.
Off The Post's very own aquatic answer to Nostradamus is back once again, making huge waves in the
sports betting industry as he takes to football predictions like, well, a duck to water. After
initially only risking his reputation on the results of England's Group D games, Howard now has a
hefty psychic juggernaut behind [.
Over the past few years OTP's affections for crazed commentators has stuck primarily with Italian
reporter Tiziano Crudeli, who reacts to goals as if he has scored it himself, won the lottery and
stepped on shattered glass. Tiziano provides a visual treat, but for pure audio exultation we may
have a new love interest.
There's a Barca crest in the frame, so it has to be brilliant, right?
Kitu Diaz of Barcelona Ecuador has scored a goal a stupendously amazing goal. And there was some
none-too-shabby buildup for the homeless man's Barcelona, too.
This was a relatively trophy-lean year for them, but can one play B-A-R-C-E-L-O-N-A in the
lottery anywhere?
Chelsea will take the field at Stamford Bridge this evening for the first leg of a Champions
League match against Barcelona which must surely rank amongst one of the more unlikely to be played
all season. The sacking of Andre Villa Boas was supposed to draw a line below the competive side of
Chelsea's season, an acknowledgement of the failure on the part of the directors of the club in
terms of their last managerial appointment.
The best moment today came after the game. I was cycling away from the ground when I spied a
young lad, blonde hair, maybe 9 or so, proudly presenting the world with a large white shirt:
DIARRA 19 it said on it. "Is that from today?" I asked him. "Yep," he beamed back, like he'd just
won the lottery.

The Colorado Rapids signed the one-time U.S. national team forward on Wednesday, adding him to a
forward stable that is already set to get Conor Casey back from injury in the coming weeks.
Sources told SBI that the Rapids acquired Hill through a lottery, which would mean that the club
is prohibited from taking part in any other player lottery this season, though the club did not
specify that in its official announcement.
One of the more potential-filled midfielders in the U.S. youth pipeline is coming to MLS.
The Portland Timbers have acquired U.S. Under-20 midfielder Charles Renken through the MLS
waiver process, according to a team release, bringing the 18-year-old to the Pacific Northwest from
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
The lottery to allocation Lee Nguyen to an MLS team is set to talk place tomorrow. Rumor is that
all the teams in the league have applied to be in the lottery. For those that don't know, the
lottery is based off of a team's record over the last season. That being said, with Sporting KC
finishing 5th in the regular season last year, their chances are not great.

By MattGerlachPhotography I'm not sure how I'm going to talk about USA women's

Finding it very difficult to get excited about Thai football this season. All the naked politicking

Buriram United, who won the league when they were known as Buriram PEA and PEA, are unbeaten and

The wry announcement beforehand 'so *is* there sexism in football?' wasn't a great start was it?
Neither was scheduling it for 10.45pm, tucked away after the lottery draw. Okay, so it was never
going to be telling us anything new but BBC1′s 'Sexism in Football?' documentary was at times
refreshingly honest, even if as Anna Kessel pointed out the '?
When you think of the best teams in the Western Conference, the Houston Rockets don't come to
mind right away. But the Texas team has now won nine of their last ten games after dropping the New
York Knicks by a final score of 97-84.
The Rockets, now 12-8 on the season, were led by Chase Budinger's 19 points off the bench.
Perhaps all the Boston Celtics needed was their best player. Losers of their first three games
this season, the Celtics welcomed back Paul Pierce and then welcomed themselves to the win column
with a 96-85 victory over the Detroit Pistons.
In his debut, Pierce had 12 points, five assists and four rebounds.
