According to reports in the United States, Vela will join new franchise Los Angeles FC for the 2018 season.

“Real Sociedad and Major League Soccer (MLS) have reached an agreement for the transfer of Carlos Vela to a team in the American league during the winter transfer window,” Sociedad said in a statement.

The expansion club have signed 19-year-old forward Diego Rossi to a Young Designated Player contract. He will arrive on January 1 from Penarol in his native Uruguay. The forward scored ten goals in the Uruguayan Premier Division last season while leading his team to their 51st championship in club history.

It started with Los Angeles FC taking Joao Moutinho with the first overall pick, end ended with defending champions Toronto FC taking Gonzaga defender Ben White with the 92nd overall selection. Confirming earlier reports, the Union have announced that assistant coach Mike Sorber has joined Los Angeles FC. Sorber will take up the same role under LAFC Head Coach Bob Bradley.

Sorber joined the Union as an assistant prior to the 2014 season, when John Hackworth was still in charge.
