At Sounder at Heart we like to say that we are supporters of supporters (some of us are actual
supporters as well). So we offer this message to you, from the fine folks at the Emerald City
Supporters who are opening up their remaining tickets for their trip to see the Seattle Sounders at
some local team in Oregon.
Thanks to the fine people at Allstate, a World Football Challenge sponsor, we have two pairs of
tickets that we'll give to a lucky reader here. Allstate is supplying these tickets to us so we can
let you know that former United States National Team goalkeeper Tony Meola will be at the Allstate
Fan Zone prior to the Seattle Sounders match versus Champions League winner Chelsea FC.
Manchester United have had larger attendances every single season since the war, regardless of
which team was more successful. United have fans from all around the country and the world, which
somehow has lead people outside of Manchester to believe the myth that City fans put about, that
Manchester is blue.
This classic film produced by the British Council gives a fascinating insight into football in
Britain in the 1940s. The film looks at the professionals who go into schools to teach football to
youngsters, the amateurs who play at the weekend for their local team and the Cup Final: the
absolute pinnacle of the game [.
Danny Welbeck has revealed he could have been the local hero of the blue half of Manchester if City
hadn't released him when he was eight-years-old. The young striker was on City's books as a
six-year-old, but was shown the door from Maine Road in December 1998. That looks like a bad move
now, but [.
I used to live in Northern Ireland 1997/98 but sadly I never went to see my local team over there
as I was more interested in hoping Spurs win and also to pass my catering course. So I lived in
Coleraine, not often the ground is more famous then the club, The showground's don't just [...]
Interview with artist Craig Coulthard, the mind behind Forest Pitch, an event that will be
part of the London 2012 Festival and Cultural Olympiad. Conducted by Eric Beard.
Succinct Briefing About Forest Pitch:Â A full size football pitch
hidden deep within a commercial forest in the Scottish Borders.
Gervinho was excellent. So was Theo Walcott and Abou Diaby. But in a familiar refrain, the
defense was shambolic. Arsenal gave plenty of leg up to a very enterprising local team through
Ignasi Miquel's giveaway and then flailed about in a losing attempt to clear the ball. Can't quite
believe we only have only one more pre-season warm up left, against Koln.
No Shaq attack for Gunners Robin Van Persie's son has snubbed a move to Arsenal in favour of his
local junior football team. Arsenal fans might be more concerned about keeping Van Persie Senior on
their books, but the Gunners had invited five-year-old Shaqueel Van Persie to join their youth
ranks. OTP isn't sure what [.
Two e-books worthy of your consideration. And look, we're all busy people, credit crunch and
all, so what can I say they're cheap. Very good, mind. Have a look.
Arthur Rowe a Neglected Spurs Legend Whose Legacy Lives On
Johan Cruijff: "Chelsea winning the CL final is a defeat for proper football. I'd rather not win
it than to have to play this way."
Recently, I have been extremely grumpy and needed a bit of time to reflect on a bad week for
honest, beautiful football, which started with the Northern Oilers succeeding in buying the title,
and finished six days later, with the London Oilers getting their greasy hands on the ‘Cup with
the big ears'.

Lets start this with the admission that under current football fanatical thinking – "I am a Glory
Hunting B............!" I started supporting United in 1979, despite being from Walsall and a happy
midlander born and bred. My local team was Walsall FC and I do have fond memories of the old
Fellows Park that I [.
When I started writing about American soccer I didn't tell very many people my thoughts on the
game. Now, about a year later, as someone who is rational enough to see that the game here is
getting better (albeit at a slow pace) I feel more tempted to stick my neck out a bit and ask
questions like 'Did anybody hear about the U.
You have to love Saturday mornings. Having a lie in, cooking a fry up, sticking on the telly and
getting amongst all the hype and build up of the next round of games in the Premiership and
Football League - then off on the train, to the pub for a few with your mates and then scuttling to
the ground to watch your beloved local team get a good stuffing by some super rich oil baron owned
team that puts your first 11 to shame.
Earlier this season, ambitious newly promoted premier league side, Queens Park Rangers (QPR)
didn't hide their intention in grabbing England's veteran midfielder, David Beckham, but apparently
that ambition has now died out.
QPR's hands off Beckham's deal was revealed by the club's manager, Neil Warnock, who stated that
at the moment his team probably needs other players instead of the flamboyant LA Galaxy
midfielder.
We've talked a lot off and on about the Olympic stadium a stadium which by the EPL's own rules
can only go to The Orient, since they are the local team (and before you ask, no, such rules did
not exist when Woolwich Arsenal moved from Plumstead to Highbury).
I have a list of Houston Dynamo players for you. Check this out:
Jermaine Taylor
Geoff Cameron
Je-Vaughn Watson
Andre Hainault
Will Bruin
Alex Dixon
Kofi Sarkodie
Take a good look, because unless you are watching World Cup qualifiers or checking out the local
team doctor's office, those are the only looks you're likely to get of the Absent Seven.
As the Seattle Sounders sit and wait for their next CONCACAF Champions League match, 16 other
teams play their first games of the 2012 Major League Soccer season. The league wants you to be
more interested in the game in general rather than just your local team. To do that they have two
games on national English TV in the United States, one on national Spanish in the USA and one in
both English and French in Canada.
Anyone who has read anything on Soccer Soap Box pretty quickly sorts out that I am a US Soccer
supporter (and occasional complainer.) But after the United States, the country that gets the most
coverage here is undoubtedly Colombia. Colombia is, after all, my adopted-by-marriage second
country.
I've also been over-sharing Colombian related ideas lately because I was recently visiting the
country (my ninth such visit if my math is correct) at the same time as my local team the New
England Revolution was adding two and a half Colombian players and MLS is seeing an influx of
Colombian talent.
Like many Americans of my generation, I fell in love with football at age 14 during the 1994
World Cup.
Prior to 1994, I did not even realize that you could play football professionally. I figured it was
something to do for fun. It was nothing more than a PE activity to do in between American football
and basketball seasons.

I would readily admit that I'm one who's crazy about football, if not the craziest. I guess
there's no better place to start than how it began.

Sami Hyypia was at Liverpool Football Club for a fantastic 10 years. As Houllier's signing in 1999,
I grew up with the Finnish defender commanding the Liverpool back four. From a relatively unknown
element brought into the Liverpool side he flourished into a fan favourite and a legend in his own
right.
Want to watch the match with a pint? Matchpint of course! - originally posted on

The world of football is becoming decidedly smaller and all of us connoisseurs of the game want
to watch more than just our local team or Super Sunday. We want to see Flamengo play in the
Brasileiro, Dinamo Kiev in the Ukrainian Premier League and the Basque derby between Real Sociedad
and Athletic Bilbao.
I have written much about Indonesian football recently even though the leagues are in full swing
and there is plenty of news out there. To busy in other areas and the last three games I saw stunk.
As in stunk. As in left a bad flavour in the mouth stunk. Quiet how pleople could call themselves
professional in those games is beyond me.
This is Rich here. I only clarify because I'm going to mention baseball. I am the
British one, I just like baseball.
Growing up I played a lot of sport. Football was great but I had a nasty habit of falling apart
mentally in school matches (besides myself I more or less half-blame a single teacher for this and
were I to meet him today I would certainly consider pouring boiling custard on his pathetic
head).
Sporting KC were not the only local team to announce a new signing today. The Missouri Comets also
added a new player today, as they announced the signing of former Chicago Riot forward, Bato
Radoncic. He's spent time in the US minor leagues and indoor games, mainly around the Milwaukee and
Chicago area during his time here.
The Pride of the North FC Groningen 1-0 FC Utrecht (17:12:11) West Brom fan Thomas Archer sidesteps the usual Dutch red tape for a
rare chance to see FC Groningen...
As anyone who has travelled to watch football in the Lowlands, and The Netherlands in particular,
you will be aware that it is easier to get a visa to enter North Korea than to enter most football
grounds to watch some Eredivisie action.
NICOLAS Anelka's departure from Chelsea to Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua
got me thinking: how far the game has evolved in the world's most populous Country?
Ever since the formation of China's top flight division in 1994 and its subsequent re-branding
10 years later (From the Jia-A League to the Chinese Super League), the
far-east nation has pumped vast sums of money into its Football Association and the results of this
are now beginning to show.
As part of Stumptown Footy's continuing offseason autobiographical series on how soccer explains
our lives, here's my very long story about my youth soccer playing days in Minnesota, stints in
Europe, and eventual connection with the Portland Timbers. It's the story of a lifelong search for
a soccer team to support, and all the stumbling blocks along the way.
