It's always fantastic hearing from brilliant
futbolitas or
futbolitos from other
parts of the world! In our Travelling Postcards series this week, meet
Agne
Ziukaite from
Lithuania who plays football, loves Barcelona more than
life itself and dreams of being a sports journalist one day.

"I've kilt before and I'll kilt again!"
(First up, apologies for that headline. In my current drug-addled state I'm afraid I found it a
lot funnier than it actually is.)
Alas, dear friends, 'twas not to be. Needing a win over the reigning World and European
champions to secure themselves a place in next month's Euro 2012 qualification play-offs, Scotland
were overrun and eventually went down 3-1 to Spain in Alicante last night with a first-half brace
from the bang in-form David Silva and David Villa's 50th international goal ten minutes after the
interval rendering David Goodwillie's 66th-minute penalty little more than a partial
consolidation.
Scotland travel to Liechenstein on Saturday looking to keep their slim hopes of qualifying for
Euro 2012 alive. Despite the assertions of manager Craig Levein, this campaign has been nothing
short of a disaster for the Tartan Army and another major step back for the national team at a time
when the quality of player available for selection is as high as it has been for some time.

Kenny Dalglish has revealed he has no fresh injury worries ahead of Liverpool's trip to Stoke City
this weekend as he confirmed Steven Gerrard continues to make good progress in his recovery.
The boss expects to have Charlie Adam available for selection at the Britannia Stadium after the
midfielder was ruled out of Scotland's Euro 2012 qualifier with Lithuania.

A day late, but never yadayada...Let's begin this time with a wave goodbye to a wonderful Women's
World Cup with Sweden's Marie Hammarstrom.Sweden - France 2-1 www.rojadirecta.es door kehl3So check
this out... Clarence Seedorf's cousin Regilio, who plays for something called FK Taurus in
Lithuania, wearing red and black stripes, in the Europa League, against a Dutch side.
The various football leagues in the Baltic States are approaching the halfway stages of the 2011
campaign. Defending champions Flora Tallinn and FK Ekranas still remain unbeaten at the top of the
Estonian Meistriliiga and Lithuanian A Lyga respectively whilst Latvia's
Virsliga saw leaders FK Ventspils lose for a second time in less than a week.
The first step in this indeterminable Europa journey begins next in two Thursdays when the club
travels to the Faroe Islands to take on NSÍ Runavík, who finished third in the Faroe Islands
Premier League last year. As in, literally last year as they are currently 4th having played 12
matches in the 2011 Season.
Skonto Riga finally won the Triobet Baltic League for the first time in the club's history
yesterday defeating compatriots and host club FK Ventspils in a penalty shoot out after the match
had finished 1-1 in extra-time.
FK Ventspils were the defending champions of the tournament, having won the 2010 final in
exciting circumstances against Lithuanians FK Ekranas, and were hoping to become the first club to
successfully defend the title.
Better pitch brought a better performance from the Biało Czerwoni. Which doesn't mean that we
played an extremely good game. I think yesterday we were able to see our true potential: we're not
as bas as we saw against Lithuania, but we are also not good enough to defeat teams like
demotivated, backup Greece.

Michał Żewłakow's last ever game for the national team. Another important test on our road to
Euro 2012. The will to redeem the loss against Lithuania. These should be the topics of discussion
before the friendly against Greece. Instead, all the public opinion concentrates on is the supposed
sex scandal (players visiting prostitutes), as revealed by the tabloid Fakt.
Here we are again... we stop a thrilling (to some) Liga race to return to the fields of
international battle, hopefully to put a better performance than we have at our last friendlies.
Because this is the real deal. This isn't just our reputation on the line; we need the points to
make it to the 2012 Euros and not let our World Cup languish in loneliness in a cabinet
somewhere.
The Baltic Champions' Cup, the first of many a pre-season indoor tournament in Eastern Europe in
the next two months, takes place in the Olympic Sports Centre in the Latvian capital of Riga this
weekend in a mini-tournament exclusive to the national champions of the three domestic leagues in
the Baltic States.
