Video: Lyon vs Marseille epic ends in 10 goals, no victory

Soccerblog 10 November @ 09:52 AM EST

Lyon 5 Marseille 5 at the Stade De Gerland. November 9, 2009. A nail biting epic with end to end action. This match will be talked about for years to come.

With L'OM cruising 4-2 it appeared as if the match was done but Lisandro Lopez who surely must be on Maradona's radar for his late goal scoring exploits brought them back on par in the 81st and 84th minute.

Lyon-Marseille 5:5, that’s what I call a derby!

Soccer Pie 09 November @ 05:29 AM EST

Derby games are always passionate affairs and they generate a lot of excitement but the match itself tens to disappoint the viewers, mostly because the managers are always too cautious and they prevent the players from giving their attacking best. The games between Lyon and Marseille have not been exception to this rule in the past and no wonder nobody expected too many goals when these sides met on Sunday, but we saw a remarkable match and no less than 10 goals, five on each side.

Match Preview: Liverpool vs. Birming City

Anfield Talk 08 November @ 01:30 PM EST
It's a sad and sorry looking Liverpool side that play host to Birmingham City on Monday night as round 12 of the Premier League draws to a close.
The Reds' 3-1 reverse at Fulham last weekend took their tally to five losses in 11 league games this season - an alarming figure, considering that they suffered just two defeats in the entirety of the previous campaign. Click to continue reading...

Olympique Lyonnais 1-1 Liverpool: A draw for Rafael Benitez and his Reds

goalpost.tv 06 November @ 09:55 AM EST
Liverpool will feel that they should have won the game at the Stage Gerland against Olympique Lyonnais, as they dominated for the most part, but crucially lost their concentration towards the end. Ryan Babel scored a scorcher from 25 yards with a little over five minutes to go, giving the Merseysiders a great chance of walking [. Click to continue reading...

Calcio, Champions: Risultati e classifiche.

UEFA Champions League: Lyon adds to Liverpool woes, Sevilla clinches knockout spot

Soccer By Ives 05 November @ 09:10 AM EST

Liverpool was so close to victory yesterday in Lyon. After giving Lyon their best for 83 minutes, a Ryan Babel wonder goal broke the deadlock, handing Rafa and the Reds a lifeline in Group E. A win against the French powerhouse would throw them back in the thick of things. But it was not to be, as Lisandro Lopez capitalized on some poor Liverpool defending to snatch a 1-1 draw that sealed Lyon's passage to the knockout stage.

Video Highlights: Liverpool Vs Lyon 1-0, Anfield Tragedy!

SOCCER UPDATED 04 November @ 08:03 PM EST
Bad luck continues to follow Rafael Benitez. When the much-criticised Ryan Babel scored a brilliant goal with just seven minutes of game time left, on most days in most seasons, the Pools probably would have taken 3 points at Anfield against Lyon. However, with the Pools experiencing a long streak of bad luck, it came as no surprise when Lisandro Lopez struck an equaliser in the final seconds Click to continue reading...

BABEL'S BRILLIANCE NOT ENOUGH FOR LIVERPOOL

Friends of Liverpool FC 04 November @ 07:46 PM EST
Liverpool only managed a 1-1 draw away to Lyon tonight which may not be enough to qualify for the quarter finals of the Champions League. A depleted Liverpool team had most of the possession away to Lyon and had a few good attempts on goal saved by the Lyon keeper, until sub Ryan Babel scored with a magnificent thunderbolt shot on 83 mins to give the Reds a deserved lead. Lisandro Poses Threat To Reds

Anfield Talk 19 October @ 12:04 PM EST
"Lisandro is better than Rooney," says the iconic Portuguese defender Jorge Costa in a matter-of-fact voice.
The former Porto captain is on a speakerphone and has been on the road for at least four hours, so there is a temptation to put his claim down to weariness.
However, the man known as "the tank" during his playing days goes on to reassert his belief with the conviction of one of his uncompromising tackles, as if to make sure nothing has been lost in translation. Click to continue reading...

Argentina vs Paraguay

Tonight is another must win game as time is beginning to run out on the national team's WC qualifying campaign.

Though not official, the following starting lineup was the one that played in yesterday's practice session:

Sergio Romero

Javier Zanetti
Sebastian Domínguez
Gabriel Heinze
Emiliano Papa

Javier Mascherano
Fernando Gago
Juan Sebastián Verón
Jesús Dátolo

Lionel Messi
Sergio Agüero

It is really hard to understand why Maradona is making a GK change for such a critical WC qualifier tonight.

Argentina needs a big win today to have a chance at world cup qualificaiotn and for Maradona to remain as the coach.

An important week for Argentina

Soccer By Ives 02 September @ 01:25 PM EST

It wasn't supposed to be like this. When Diego Maradona took the reins of Argentina, the former star was supposed to re-energize a World Cup qualifying campaign that had taken some hits. With four games in CONMEBOL qualifying left, and hardly the easiest schedule, could Argentina fail to qualify for the World Cup?

Vive le Foot! Ligue 1 Weekend Previews & More

I am utterly convinced that Yohann Gourcuff is the star of tomorrow and that Milan made a huge mistake by letting him go. Four goals and two assists in three games in Le Championnat for the French midfielder is already an impressive tally and there are no signs of him slowing down. Somewhat depending on his World Cup 2010 I wouldn't be surprised to see him wearing the colors of Chelsea or Man United next year.
