People become match officials for many reasons. Illusions of grandeur; forget the fact their spouse
abuses them by taking it out on players; uniform fetish; a love of thrusting out arms that came
from watching Nurnberg rallies; chances of making more cash on the side; because they weren't good
enough to play the game and still wanna be involved.
Sir Alex Ferguson has slammed the assistant referee, John Flynn, after a ridiculous decision
which denied United three points against Newcastle today.
The referee, Mike Jones, initially indicated that a corner should be awarded, before the
linesman flagged for a penalty.
Ferguson criticised the linesman and reflected on an equally poor decision by an official at the
end of the 2009-2010 season against Chelsea, when Didier Drogba scored the match-winning goal from
an offside position.
BBC Sport Premier League could use goal-line technology in 2012-13 season.
When I first saw the headline this morning, I had to stop and take a second look at why
suddenly, this venturethe idea of goal-line technology has suddenly gone from the back burner to
possible usage next season in the top football League in the world, the English Premier
League.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted that his side's lack of confidence did not warrant a win at
White Hart Lane but also accused Tottenham Hotspur's opening goal scorer Rafael Van der Vaart of
handling the ball in the build-up to his late first-half strike.
Van der Vaart controversially controlled the ball before slotting it past Wojciech Szczesny in
the Gunners' goal and although the Dutch midfielder celebrated dramatically with the Spurs faithful
on the touchline, Wenger was not convinced.
AVB and company open their European account with a fair acquittal against a tough German outfit.
Goals from David Luiz and Juan Mata (both set up by Fernando Torres) sealed all three points on
this night. More after the jump:

The Match:
You have to be pleased with what you saw.
By Chris Wright
With Javier Hernandez left behind at the team hotel after sustaining a nasty concussion in
training on Wednesday that put him in hospital overnight (don't worry, he's on the mend now folks),
goals from Anderson, Park Ji-Sung, Rooney and Danny Welbeck (via a hefty deflection) saw Manchester
United breeze to victory over the best that the MLS had to offer in New Jersey last night.
Drogba took a free kic.The ball hit the post, hit the ground and then came spinning backwards
towards the goalie who then grabbed it.
Did it cross the line.Video replay shows that it may not have.
The ref and linesmen who got only one shot at seeing it said it was a goal.
It's a familiar story.
The chaps landed in Seff Efrica this week. And if that fact alone didn't knock you off your
swivel chairs then wait until you hear they've pencilled in an actual football match for this very
afternoon. With linesmen and everything. Northern riot forecasters, The Kaizer Chiefs, primed and
ready for their three ‘o clock appointment in the balmy Jo'burg sunshine.
Everything that could have gone wrong for us on the weekend, went wrong. Man City beat West Ham and
went seven points ahead of us. Chelsea and the linesmen cheated their way to a 2-1 victory over us,
and Liverpool beat Newcastle to go above us on goal difference.
Anyway, regardless of the fact that we were cheated out of a win, the Cheatski match confirmed a
few things:
- That our strikers are beyond repair and need to be replaced
- That Bale & Lennon are easily contained by defences
- Sandro & Modric in the middle is the way forwards
- VDV just does what he wants, when he wants, and compromises the shape and attacking threat of the
team
- Gomes is becoming more and more difficult for his fans to defend
- The FIFA hierarchy need to introduce video technology, or they need to be assassinated

Neil Warnock admitted that he's 'ever-so proud' of his R's charges, who twice came from behind
thanks to an Adel Taarabt double in their 2-2 draw at Cardiff City.
We've chronicled before the Germans' love affair for the FBM. Perhaps its because they're very
interested in the growth of soccer in the United States, or more likely, they really, really, love
their beer.
St. Pauli, newbies to the Bundesliga top flight this season have a knack for showing creativity
with beer (and thusly were a large part of our 2010 "Persons of the Year" award).
In a week where Arsenal's dream of a historic quadruple has faded into near nothingness while
Manchester United's hopes of bagging a terrific treble continue to burn brightly, Sir Alex Ferguson
has sought to adopt an an all too familiar siege mentality in relation to recent media criticism
and jibes he has received from rival managers of his attitude towards match officials.

Far too closely-contested for comfort, especially during a nerve-wracking final 15 minutes, but
still a deserved win. Fulham had enough chances to take something from the game – more than the
home side – and Liverpool were clinging on by the end.
I have to say something about the Sian Massey 'offside' decision. I watched the game on tv and the
decision she made was excellent, to the untrained eye Raul Meireles may have looked offside as he
ran through to set up Torres for a Liverpool goal, but for Gray and Keys to say the things they did
was well out of order.
I'm sure you have heard on the back pages today that, Andy Gray and Richard Keys have
been accused of sexism. Here is the audio of the incident (Ignore the pointless intro)
Well done bellends!...Now for some statements via the BBC:
An FA statement said it had made "real strides in encouraging both male and female match
officials to enter the game at every level, and will continue to offer every encouragement to all
officials within the football family to progress to the highest levels possible".
