I just got a friendly call from the LA Galaxy front office letting me know that a local bar, the Off-Campus Pub on Avelon Blvd. right near the HDC, will be showing the game in English. Similarly, a commenter to my previous post has mentioned that the game will also be shown at the Cock and Bull on Lincoln Blvd in Venice CA.

Sutton gets a gig?

Infamous Chelsea flop Chris Sutton has been appointed manager at Lincoln City.

Sutton moved to Chelsea from Blackburn in 1999 for a cool £10 million following Rovers' relegation. He proceeded to net just one goal in 26 league appearances. He was even left out of the squad for the Blues' FA Cup Final win in 2000.

The Philadelphia Union will become the 16th MLS club at the start of next season and will play in the new Chester Stadium. But news came out this morning that their first game could be in another venue.

Many Philadelphia fans are stirring with excitement over start of 2010, and the addition of Philadelphia to MLS. With the start of the season yet to be set and a tight construction schedule ahead of the team, Union fans might not get a chance to kickoff the season in their new stadium.

Because of the uncertainties about next year, Philadelphia's front office are keeping their options open as to the site of the first kick in 2010.

Football, Finances and League Two

The new League Two season has started with everybody financially stable - more or less - but Lincoln City supporter Keith Duncan doesn't feel that the authorities are going far enough.

In 2002 Lincoln City FC nearly closed down. In fact, the club was 24 hours from having its application to enter administration in court considered when two of the then Board got together to try to secure enough funding to make that a reasonable possibility.

Galatasaray snatch Elano

Gold Cup updates [Jakovic, Quaranta]

United's two representatives at the CONCACAF Gold Cup - Santino Quaranta for the U.S. and Dejan Jakovic for Canada - have both moved on to the knockout stage of the tournament following this past weekend's results.

Canada finished atop Group A with a 2-0-1 record, with Jakovic starting and playing 90 minutes in each of the first two games.

The Bookeaters had an excellent meeting at the Exeter Inn last night, where we broke bread and discussed The Lincolns: Portrait of a Marriage. We all loved (and most of us read) the book, and I would highly recommend it as a portrait, not only of a marriage but of a period of time.
