Giuseppi Rossi's injury is worse than originally feared.
After being projected to miss another six months with the torn ACL he suffered earlier this
month, Rossi is now being ruled out for 10 months. The Italian international needs two surgeries to
repair the damaged ligament in his right knee, but the latest timetable for recovery means Rossi
will miss most of next season.
Joel Zumaya is injured again. The power relief pitcher who was signed by the Minnesota Twins in
the offseason has torn an elbow ligament and will need Tommy John surgery to continue his baseball
career. That said, Zumaya isn't yet sure he wants to continue to play baseball.
"I know I'm pretty young, but I'm probably going to go on six surgeries if I go get another
one," said Zumaya, who began his career with the Detroit Tigers.
Who says Kobe Bryant is old? He sure doesn't look old right now. The superstar guard for the Los
Angeles Lakers dropped 40 points on the Utah Jazz tonight 24 hours after torching the Phoenix Suns
for 48 points. With Kobe on fire, the Lakers have won four straight games and once again look like
a legit contender in the Western Conference.
Bill Hamid is expected to miss the next one to three weeks with the ankle injury he picked up
while with the U.S. Under-23 men's national team, D.C. United announced on Thursday.
MRI results revealed the 21-year-old goalkeeper suffered a ligament sprain and bone contusions
to his left ankle in the first half of the U.

At the start of the week, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp painted a rather grim picture of injury
issues in the Tottenham squad but after Rafael van der Vaart declared his readiness for the Arsenal
game on Sunday, Emmanuel Adebayor has also announced that he hopes to be fit to face his former
club.
With yesterday's FA Cup tie quickly glossed over and forgotten for the time being, attention has
already turned to Sunday's North London derby with news that Tottenham's injury problems are
getting much worse.
Yesterday saw the return of last year's match winner Younes Kaboul but that was about the only
piece of good news amidst reports that Luka Modric, BAE and Emmanuel Adebayor are all doubts for
next Sunday's clash.
The Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong spent the whole of last season on the sidelines after
damaging his cruciate ligament in pre-season, but he has come back strongly this year and was sent
on loan to Wolves to give him some extended first-team action. But disaster struck yesterday when
he was stretchered off halfway theough the [.
When it rains, it pours. Especially when it is related to the Arsenal injury news. If you
haven't already heard, Andre Santos will need to undergo a surgery to repair his damaged ligament
in his right ankle. That will take him out of action right until middle of March.
Great win for the Gunners yesterday against Leyton Orient. Clichy's well chuffed with his goal.
Figures it was probably better than Nick's hattrick. Good for him. Conor Henderson enjoyed his
debut. He's of course focused on the reserve team and taking his chances when Wenger brings him
into the first team.
Arsenal have decided that the Achilles tweak that was supposed to keep Belgian defender
Thomas Vermaelen out for, and I quote, 'a couple of weeks' back in late September
will now require surgery with the procedure almost definitely set to push back the centre-back's
return date by a further six weeks.
Carling Cup quarter finals is the match for Arsenal tonight and Wigan are the visitors. For so
many seasons, this competition represents the gateway to the future of Arsenal. That however has
changed this season. Whether it is down to the fact that we've gone 5 years without a trophy or it
is just the make-up of the squad that simply makes it look unexpectedly strong, Arsene Wenger seems
to have a little more interest in this competition than usual.
We've seen this happen before. Not only to Arsenal players, though theirs get the most airtime
and end up being the most horrific. It has happened to United as well.  Alan Smith, who made the
most hated crossover in English Football when he came over from Leeds.
Following recent statement regarding Nemanja Vidic's injury status which previously arrived from
the player's agent, Manchester United's manger, Sir Alex Ferguson has now confirmed that the
Serbian international won't be available for the rest of this season.
Fergie revealed that the situation has actually been predicted by United's medical team, stating
that the player will immediately see a specialist and get an operation once the swollen on the knee
gets better.
As I write this, I'm on my way to a job interview. I'm happy with my current job but that's
often the best time to have a look round. This is a similar role but in a national private
corporation as opposed to the voluntary sector. I'll have greater responsibilities, a bigger
budget, more people to manage and a higher profile, which this stage of my career is a real
opportunity.
What the new ground needs, wherever we may end up, is a statue. It's the thing these days,
dignifying our improvised chaotic representation of beauty with the use of an art-form that
stretches back beyond antiquity. Wolves and Wembley have had one for a while but there's been a
spate in the last few years.
As the Middlesbrough players and fans head to Humberside today for the npower Championship clash
against Hull City I'm sure many will be thinking about Gary O'Neil and hoping the former Boro
captain recovers from what looks like a very serious ankle injury sustained only last week.
The 27-year-old was clattered by Nigel Reo-Coker in last Sunday's Premier League clash at Upton
Park and was stretchered off only to find out that he had torn the ligament from his ankle in the
challenge.
Everton have confirmed that Jack Rodwell will be out of contention for the next three months due
to the ankle injury he sustained during their Premier League tie with Aston Villa a fortnight
ago.
Initially it was though that Rodwell had merely twisted his ankle during a challenge with Villa
defender Stephen Warnock, but it soon became apparent that the problem was far
worse than first expected.
Villarreal will be without Cristian Zapata, Cani, Marco Ruben and Marcos Senna for their Group A
meeting with Manchester City, while Javier Camuñas is doubtful.
These injuries are in addition to Giuseppe Rossi, who is out for six months, after knee surgery
earlier this week.
The most serious of the other injuries appears to be to Zapata, who strained a ligament in his
right knee during Saturday's 2-0 Liga win against Rayo Vallecano, an injury which is likely to
sideline him for five weeks.
Valencia midfielder Sergio Canales is facing three to six months on the sidelines after
partially tearing a ligament in the 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
Canales, 20, joined Los Che from Real Madrid on a two-year loan with an option to buy at the end
of the contract and has impressed at the club despite only netting one goal.
Barcelona hit-man Lionel Messi will miss up to three weeks of action after sustaining an ankle
sprain.
During Barca's 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid today, Messi was stretchered off the pitch in the
closing moments of the game after a hard tackle by Tomas Ujfalusi.
The one-time Czech Republic international footballer was issued his second yellow card of the
match and in turn shown the locker room.
The LA Galaxy looks set to lose another key player for Saturday's match against Toronto FC.
Galaxy midfielder Juninho will miss the club's match with Toronto FC on Saturday to get married
in his native Brazil. Juninho is added to a list that includes Landon Donovan and Donovan Ricketts,
who are on International duty.
Macoumba Kandji has returned to practice for the first time since he tore a ligament in the MLS
Cup in November, but the injury list for the Colorado Rapids is not getting any shorter.
Marvell Wynne and Joseph Nane went on the injured list for Saturday's showdown with Eastern
Conference leaders Philadelphia Union.
Last season DC United were awful. Their -26 Goal Differential was the worst since 2005, when
expansion teams Real Salt Lake and Chivas USA stunk up the place, and the worst for a non-expansion
side since the 2003 Dallas Burn finished with a -29 differential. The problems were mostly on the
offensive side.
MLS is reportedly closing in on a home for its coveted second New York franchise.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the league has zoned in on an area in Flushing
Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, where a 20,000-25,000-seat soccer-specific stadium would be built. A
proposal for what would be a privately funded stadium has been shown to local politicians, and
according to WSJ, since the stadium would be built on city-owned park land, the city council and
state legislature would need to sign off on the plan, which is in its infancy.
Four points from our four big games (Liverpool, Newcastle, l'Arse and Man Utd) is a tad below
par, and the gap to the ‘orrible lot down the road has shrunk accordingly, but even the most
pessimistic, nihilistic doom-mongerers of our clan are struggling to whip themselves into a genuine
frenzy regarding our two consecutive defeats.
U.S. defender Ali Krieger underwent surgery this morning at Commonwealth Orthopedics in Fairfax,
Va., to repair the torn ACL in her right knee suffered in the first match of the 2012 CONCACAF
Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Krieger also tore her MCL, but that ligament was not
surgically repaired as it has the ability to heal naturally during the rehabilitation process.
When AC Milan played Palermo on November 10th earlier this season, despite winning by three
goals to one, most Milanisti left the game in tears. Pippo Inzaghi, the evergreen Italian striker,
suffered cruciate ligament and meniscus damage in his left knee after coming on as a substitute. At
the time it seemed like his season, if not his career, was in major jeopardy, but today, Pippo has
announced that his return could be much sooner than expected.
Martin Skrtel has revealed he had to take an injection to complete Liverpool's weekend triumph at
Chelsea.
The Reds centre-back was one of the heroes on Sunday as Kenny Dalglish's side recorded their fourth
successive victory with a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
All the hype centred around Fernando Torres, who joined Chelsea from Liverpool on transfer deadline
day in a British record £50million deal, but it was Raul Meireles who grabbed the headlines with
the match-winning strike.
