Liverpool's Champions League hopes got a beating when they conceded a 90th minute goal to Lyon's
Lisandro in their encounter last night. Just seven minutes back, Ryan Babel had done his bit and
put the Reds in the lead. With this 1-1 draw, Lyon enter the last 16 while Liverpool still five
points behind second [.

I apologize to the joker for stealing that quote but it fits in well with this mini review of
the match against AZ Alkmaar.
We've now played three games and collected 7 points. Most often than not, 9 points usually does
the trick with regards to qualification. We have two home games, one against Alkmaar and the other
against Liege.

First of all apologies for the lack of posts in the last two days. It is not because I've been
stuck on topics to write about. There are two reasons. A post this week will explain one reasonÂ
why I didn't write anything since the end of September.
I did try posting something yesterday, it was going to be mainly images.

I thought I'd do another 20 points match review, so that it is easier to follow.
1. Criticized by many lately, including me, I think Clichy had his most solid game yet. He
looked focused and was rarely beaten today.
2. If anything, most of Olympiakos' threat was on the right flank where Eboue was playing at
right back.

Fulham 0 Arsenal 1 (Van Persie 52)
(Premiership)
Strange how a scrappy undeserved win always brings about more plaudits than a delightful
thumping, isn't it?
For as long as we've had the reputation for destroying opposition only to fall meekly to
physical sides (an opinion that is so outdated it is ridiculous), we've heard the line that we
can't win ugly.

That headline is somewhat contrived. But it does underscore an important point: a year ago, Arsenal
wouldn't have won 1-0 yesterday. Mr. Wenger often says the team is growing but year-on-year between
07-08 and 08-09 it seemed to have gone backwards not forwards. We were toothless in midfield and
conceding stupid goals.

Apologies for the absence over the past few days, a lack of time has left me unable to do
justice to the midweek win over Liege, and the Adebayor furore. So before I get on to yesterday's
game, I just want to make a few points.

Well, we wanted a win. We got a win. We wanted a clean sheet. We got a clean sheet. Overall you
have to say it was a good day at the office.
Robin van Persie returned up front, Rosicky and Bendtner dropped to the bench, and Eboue kept
his place albeit further forward than against Liege. From an attacking point of view it was a
polished performance even if some of the finishing left a bit to be desired.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was delighted after his side's 4-0 at the Emirates against Wigan.
The Gunners made sure of all three points thanks to a brace by Thomas Vermaelen and two goals from
Eduardo and captain Cesc Fabregas.
The Frenchman told Sky Sports:
We scored many goals and didn't concede, and three days after a very physically demanding game
in Liege it is good to see we could repeat a good performance.

You can see it clearly can't you? We're all expecting a comfortable win because we play Wigan.
They've yet to beat us in the Premiership. Martinez is going to be 4th Wigan manager attempting to
change this. And he believes attacking is the way to go. Just like Liege in the last game who
bombarded our defence when they had the chance.

Afternoon all, its another manic one today.
Last night was all rather stressful wasn't it? I couldn't quite believe it when within 5 minutes
we were two goals down, the row z allergy continued to spread and it cost us the first goal,
Eduardo trying a suicidal backheel to Cesc, it failed, they scored.

So we start today with the news that UEFA couldn't keep their posturing going much longer, and
have comprehensively backed down on Eduardo's European ban, leaving him free to play in tomorrow
night's Champions League opener in Liege. With the FIFA rule stating clearly that an incident can
only be considered a dive if no contact has been made, it was never going to stand up to much
analysis, and given that wording, it is particularly obvious that Eduardo was unnecessarily singled
out by a panel who had decided on the verdict without ever considering the evidence.

Morning, it's a busy one so let's crack right into it.
Arsene's pre-match press conference took place yesterday instead of the Friday before a game but
as usual he had plenty to say. Starting with injuries ahead of the weekend's game he said Andrei
Arshavin would miss at least 3 games due to a recurrence of his groin injury.

Dirk Kuyt was the reason Liverpool won 1-0 against Standard Liege tonight. Liverpool have many good
players. Alonso, Gerrard, Torres, Carragher and Reina are top class players any team would love to
have. With players like this fans should expect to destroy hard working teams like Standard Liege.
At Liverpool though, shocking players like Dirk Kuyt mean that instead of winning 4-0, Liverpool
scrape to 1-0.
