We've had lots of foreign coaches in the A-League - usually at inflated prices.
The Dutch duo are currently sitting bottom - the Kiwi is just ahead.
Of the ten current coaches five are foreign and only Vitaslav Lavicka and Scottish Coach Iain
Ferguson are in the top half of the table - both probably have spent more money than their
counterparts.
As he completed 25 years in charge of Man United today, Sir Alex in the bigger picture has
always looked an epitome of perfection, a Midas of sorts. To the common man, most of his buys were
intelligent and always paid dividends but even the greatest make mistakes. So on this day, we take
a quick look at the 10 worst signings of the Fergie era (in no particular order)
10.
There are only five....I know there are heaps more these days but most blog readers have the
attention span of a gnat.
1. Friday night football - Adelaide United at home, I love it and United and Heart always play or
try to play good football. Both our Dutch Coaches under the pump, with Versleijan gone and taking a
pop at our Craig Foster this week - Dutch are cellar dwellars just now.
Hi all.
Welcome to ze blog. In most parts of the world it would just be an ordinary, boring, if not
tedious, Monday morning.
But with the boys in blue and yellow getting deconstructed (you could happily substitute that with
either smashed, mauled, clawed or demolished) on Saturday, there's this concept of Mad Monday to
contend with.
Hi all and welcome to this brief blog.
Perth Glory take on Sydney FC in another friendly tomorrow. Both sides lost their previous games
(Perth lost to Central Coast, Sydney to Newcastle) and this will be a chance to see where they are
at.
Mostly it will be noteworthy because of Brett Emerton, though Fairfax's Michael Cockerill focused
his pre-game story on youngster Terry Antonis.
Now the A-league has just two players this year, Harry and Emmo, so it should be more interesting
everyone tells me.
Well with Matthew Leckie, Marcus Flores and others having left who are the fellas who the Nearpost
is particularly looking forward to seeing take to the field in Season 7:
Melbourne Victory - Of course Harry Kewell, but I'm as interested to see how the young Kiwi Marco
Rojas goes.
Morning everyone,
Welcome to the blog.
So yours truly did end up going to the races yesterday. There was the usual mix of frocks, shocks
and quite a few jocks.
A few people even got lucky with their horses and it seemed like a grand old time was had by all.
But lady luck was not smiling in this direction.
We all saw the Brisbane Roar flying around the field last year, the Mariners were not far behind
and of course Melbourne and Adelaide always set a standard, often exciting.
Perth failed, failed to excite and this after being top of the boxing league after a few games.
Had a review - kept Iain Ferguson - and done the same.
Not being Irish, I don't really understand the whole "second team" malarky. When Robbie Keane
signed for Liverpool, claiming they were his boyhood team, before signing for Celtic, and claiming
the same, he was ridiculed on this blog. I, like many, didn't and don't understand how you can
support two teams.
I was sad when Mr Flores left for China, he has so much skill - and then Bernie said Harry wasn't
coming. Harry has a fair bit of skill too - although he may yet turn up.
I'm a Celtic fan and although Liam Miller (not so much skill) signed for former Rangers player
Fergusons' Perth Glory I wasn't that happy about the stars of the new A-League season - albeit a
long long way off.
Having fallen into the football supporter's trap of self obsessed navel gazing it's time to redress
the balance.
Amid the fun or pain to be had, depending on your persuasion, of watching Hibs suffer a massive,
institutional mental breakdown, we shouldn't forget the role that Ayr United played last night.
When Ayr United took to the field dressed in black on Saturday, pessimistic Hibs fans might have
felt that here was the Grim Reaper ready to finish off what was left of their miserable season.
Certainly Hibs started the game at a funereal pace that never threatened to enliven the 5000 or so
home fans who had turned out.
