As a child, I could never sleep on Christmas Eve. There was a greedy little materialist in me
who sneaked into the living room in the dark to count, shake and feel up all the presents under the
tree with my name on them and then stayed up all night trying to imagine what the morning would
really bring.

Liverpool, the five-time European champions who have won the English title a joint-record 18 times,
are struggling on the pitch but comprehensively outperforming their rivals online.
The club's official Facebook page has more than one million fans - more than every other official
Premier League fan-page put together - while its Twitter feed has more than 55,000 fans.

Yesterday, I looked at the real cost of Jan Kromkamp's transfer to Liverpool. Today, I attempt to
establish the true cost of Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia, two of Rafa Benitez's most successful
signings.
At the time of both transfers, the BBC reported that Garcia cost 6m, but in their report for
Alonso's transfer, a fee was not specified.

I really feel for the 'supporters' who are in the Anti-Rafa Brigade. Yeah, really, if you
believe cows can fly. The go on and on about wanting Rafa to be sacked while ignoring glaring
FACTS. And what happens to them after each game?
When we lose, these supporters will be happy because they feel that their argument is justified,
BUT they will be unhappy because we have lost.

Reds star Jamie Carragher officially launched his new young people's charity in Liverpool.
The Liverpool defender set up The 23 Foundation earlier this year to provide grants to young people
on Merseyside.
The 23 Foundation, which takes its name from Carragher's team shirt number, aims to give children a
better chance in life.

I feel the game against the Mancs is timely. What better way to show to the fans our resilience
if not by winning this much-anticipated game. This is the sort of games when form is thrown out of
the window.
What I would like to see today is a game in which all our players give their all and play
themselves to the ground.

Liverpool Football Club today announced the Spain Tourism Board has signed a three-year deal with
the Reds to become the club's 'Official Destination Partner'.
Liverpool FC have a well established affinity with Spain and the deal will enable the Spain Tourism
Board, also known as Turespana, to promote Spain's beauty and diversity to a worldwide audience,
commencing from this season.

It has been a while since I last posted due to being heavily burdened by workload. Since that
last post, we lost to Fiorentina in the CL and Chelsea, and just now to Sunderland, in the Premier
League. Although I did find time to follow the news and the whatabouts on my mobile.
It is a very trying period for supporters of LFC.

In November 2008, Jamie Carragher made history by breaking a Liverpool FC record set by Ron Yeats
in 1969. Normally, this would be a reason to celebrate, but not in Carra's case - breaking the
record has now made him the club's unluckiest player ever.
I am, of course, talking about own goals!

Liverpool need to bounce back from the Fiorentina defeat with a solid performance against Chelsea,
and whilst it would be a fantastic achievement to win at Stamford Bridge, the club's abject record
there means it's (arguably) almost a statistical impossibility.
Let's just look at the cold hard facts:
All time competitive games at Stamford Bridge (Since 1907)*
Played - 76
Won - 17
Drawn - 17
Lost – 42
Failure to win in 77% of competitive games.

Speculation continues about the possibility of Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah al-Saud, a
member of the ruling family of Saudi Arabia, buying into Liverpool, after the English Premier
League club admitted that it had appointed advisors to look at new investment opportunities.
Fahd bin Abdullah's F6 company has signed an agreement with Liverpool and co-owner George Gillett's
Nascar franchise, Richard Petty MOtorsports, that will see two Liverpool-backed youth academies and
a number of motor racing tracks built in Saudi Arabia.

Rafa Benitez has revealed the five players from his current squad that he would have in an LFC
5-a-side team. And, as is often the case with Rafa's team selections, you may be surprised at who
is omitted from the starting line-up.
Members of Liverpool's ALL RED official membership scheme receive, amongst other things, an
exclusive 'The Real Rafa Benitez' DVD, and it is on this DVD that Rafa makes his selections.

Why am I not surprised reading about the leaked papers from LFC?
The documents concerned is apparently a prospectus published by investment banks Rothschild and
Merrill Lynch which was released by Bloomberg News.
It reveals that the owners have capped the spending on new players and also any increase of
wages to £20M.

Rafa Benitez's rather dubious explanation for Yossi Benayoun's perennial bench status over the last
two seasons is (arguably) as ludicrous as it is inaccurate.
In a recent interview, Rafa made the following observations:
'I was talking to Yossi about how he has always been fantastic coming off the bench and he told
me he could do even more if I gave him a chance from the start'. Click to continue reading...
Since the Burnley game, LFC has played against Debrecen in the CL, West Ham in the league and
Leeds last night in the Carling Cup. I did not get to catch the Debrecen game but, as with the
other two games, LFC won not so 'comfortably too' I was told.
We are sitting 'comfortably' at third place in the league after the West Ham game when a few
teams in the top five dropped points as expected.

It is now official that LFC has just signed a four-year shirt sponsorship deal with Standard

I feel this is the first time I am glad that the international break arrived. Although it did
come after our win against Bolton, but it was not the usual break that usually breaks our momentum
of winning games. This time it feels like it is a timely break, much needed to tighten a screw here
and a screw there in strengtening the team.

Liverpool's Ryan Babel has thrown his Anfield future into question by claiming Reds boss Rafa
Benitez has broken promises made to the Dutchman about increased first-team involvement.
Babel has not started a match since a poor performance in the opening day defeat at Spurs and his
most recent comments indicate his hope for a loan move back to his previous club Ajax in January as
well as his belief he has been let down by Benitez, saying "There have been a lot of things
promised, but they haven't been followed up.

Going through the football news and bloggers  since we lost to Villa was very very interesting
and disheartening at the same time.Â
If the slating came from the usual enemies of LFC, then it is understood. These vultures, the

LFC and find even a slight bit of excuse to go after us.

Soccer isn't immune to the rocky economic climate. Argentina's first division clubs are off to a

The gloom after the 1-2 loss to Spurs was clearly lifted after the emphatic 4-0 win against Stoke.
It was heartening to watch how we bounced back after a disappointing opener of the season with such
an encouraging display of football.
As the wisemen of the game keep on saying, a season is neither made nor broken with one game won
or lost.

There was a very stark contrast between our 0-0 draws with Stoke last season and last nights
emphatic 4-0 victory. Also it was the perfect response to the disappointment of losing to
Spurs.
Johnson impressed on his Anfield debut with a superb goal and assist. He looks like he's going to
settle very quickly with LFC, and it's clear that we've got ourselves a special player who gives us
that extra attacking verve.

On the 9th April 2002, a particularly catastrophic tactical decision by Gerard Houllier robbed
Liverpool FC of the chance to participate in what would undoubtedly have been the game of the
century.

second leg.

The summer transfer period is almost over. Rafa brought in Johnson and of course Aquilani to

It is half time now with LFC trailing Atletico Madrid by two goals to nothing (commentary in

fitness and we could see flashes of what we are capable of. Carra took a knock early in the first
half and was substituted.

It has just been confirmed that LFC and Roma have agreed the deal to bring in Alberto Aquilani to
Anfield. I do not follow the Serie A, hence do not really know much about this player. But it seems
that he is very highly rated and how fast he settles in the BPL will be crucial since the season
opener is just around the corner.

It is a pity that the inevitable happened so close to the curtains being raised for the new
season -- 10 more days before we meet Spurs -- but then it is better now than next week I guess.
Rafa comfirmed that Alonso made his decision two months ago and that would have given Rafa ample
time to plot the strategy for the new season.
