Signing of the season?
So one of the most exciting days of the season is over, and Jim White's excitable gossip-hungry
clone can go back into suspended animation until next year. Yet spending is down nearly 70% versus
last year's January deadline, where Torres and Carroll dominated the headlines.
Deepdale players discover they now need to be deep sleepers New Preston boss Graham Westley hasn't
exactly endeared himself to some of his charges after sending a 2am text message that informed four
players that they were being dropped. Westley sent the group text in the early hours of Saturday
morning ahead of his side's [.
[I]n an article last year, The Economist coined the phrase `Londonism' to refer to what it
regarded as a distinct ideology driven by the office of Mayor. It cited as the central tenets of
`Londonism': enthusiasm for the financial services industry; an openness to immigration; and the
unceasing pursuit of economic growth.
November was another strong month for the Boro. Another "giant" was put in their place.
Stevenage 2-1 Sheffield United
Another one of League One's elite were beat at the Lamex. Goals from Mark Roberts and Scott
Laird were enough to give Graham Westley's side the 3 points as they continued to push up the
table.
Players of Bromley FC have barcodes shaved into their heads ahead of their FA Cup match against
Leyton Orient.
By Chris Wright
Ahead of their FA Cup first-round tie against Leyton Orient on Saturday, Bromley FC's Danny
Waldren has had a QR code (one of those barcode-y smartphone-y whatyamacallits that I don't really
understand) shaved into the back of his head for the occasion.
QR ya? Players from non-league Bromley are getting some interesting new haircuts ahead of their FA
Cup tie against Leyton Orient on Saturday. Online betting site Betfair are sponsoring their players
to have QR codes shaved into their hair! Midfielder Danny Waldren was the first player to entrust

Olympic Stadium row: What happens next?
The collapse of the deal to hand over the Olympic Stadium to West Ham for a new home from 2014
looks like another huge mess and risks handing the tax-payer an ongoing money drain. The first
repercussion will see Tottenham and Leyton Orient drop their application for a Judicial Review of
Newham Council's planned £40m loan to West Ham as part of the Olympic Stadium package, along with
the anonymously-laid complaint made to the European Court.
Championship giants West Ham United have confirmed they are still very much interested in a move to
the London Olympic Stadium following the completion of next year's Olympic Games. The Hammers had
originally won the bid to take over the ground as part of the legacy of the games, but with legal
challenges from London rivals Spurs and Leyton Orient looming it was instead decided that the
stadium would remain in public ownership as a valued asset and be leased out instead - with some
circles of the British press reportedly claiming the rental of the ground would cost a fee in the
region of £2 million per year.
Reports on Tuesday suggested the deal struck between the club and the Olympic Park Legacy
Company (OPLC) has come to a halt after complaints from the Premier League outfit, with the OPLC,
the Mayor of London and the government agreeing instead to keep the stadium in public
ownership.
West Ham's Olympic Stadium deal collapses
The move follows legal challenges by Tottenham and Leyton Orient, plus an anonymous complaint to

If the start of this season in League One has been notable for one thing, it has been for the
under-achievement of those clubs which arguably over-achieved last season. After seven matches, the
bottom four of Rochdale, Bournemouth, Leyton Orient and Exeter City are all clubs did extremely
well when swimming against the current last season, but all are finding the going to be
considerably more difficult this time around.

Manchester United have been drawn against Leeds United in the 3rd Round of the League Cup. The
last time the teams faced each other was in the FA Cup the season before last, with our hated
rivals leaving with a 1-0 win. They brought out t-shirts to mark the momentous occasion, replacing
the "0″ with their own club badge.
Liverpool will play Cardiff City in the English League Cup final after a thrilling 2-2 draw at

The Premier League leaders twice took the lead at Anfield thanks to goals in either half from
Nigel de Jong and Edin Džeko but the hosts responded swiftly on both occasions with Steven
Gerrard's penalty and Craig Bellamy's strike booking a place in the showpiece on 26 February.
Carling Cup heroes Crystal Palace were rewarded for their shock win over Manchester United with
an all Championship semi-final draw with Cardiff.
In the other semi-final, Manchester City's Roberto Mancini takes on Kenny Dalglish's
Liverpool.
Palace and City will be at home for the first of the two legs, which will be held in the week of
9 January.
We'll discuss the final line up for the Hearts game tomorrow, but news from the club website
states that youth will be given its chance as several fringe players are included in the squad. For
many Spurs fans, the most exciting name on the list is that of Harry Kane.
After making headway with Leyton Orient last season, Kane really impressed in a pre-season with
Spurs that included a hat trick against a strong Birmingham City side.

Tottenham's Premier League match with Everton on Saturday has been postponed because of the
riots in London.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said he was "positive" the other nine games in
the opening round of top-flight fixtures would go ahead. And prime minister David Cameron suggested
they could kick off earlier than scheduled to assist the police.
The violence which has traumatised London for the past four days has led to the
cancellation of several games, including the England v Netherlands international friendly.
With Britain in a daze from the unexpected rioting and looting which has now spread to several
cities, the Football Association had no choice but to cancel Wednesday's Wembley match, with all
available police urgently needed to regain control of the streets.
Kazenga LuaLua was sent out on loan earlier this summer, to Brighton until January, and now another
Newcastle youngster has been sent out on loan to get some first team games. Michael Richardson sent

League One is the junction at which all of English footballs avenues meet. At one end of the
spectrum are the likes of Charlton Athletic and the two Sheffield clubs, who have fallen from their
once lofty perches and are now trying to figure a way to get back to where they feel that they
deserve to be.

And so Arsenal's pre-season continues tomorrow with with a pre-season match-up with FC Cologne
(or Koln for the German speaking fans). Arsenal have been training in Germany and this game will
single the end to "phase one' of their pre-season training.
Now the reason why Arsenal are playing a friendly versus Cologne is not evident as we have had
virtually no dealing with the club in the past.

So, football yesterday and pre-season kicked off with a fairly routine win over a Malaysia
XI.
Two goals in each half gave us a 4-0 win. An early Aaron Ramsey penalty after Jack Wilshere had
been taken down in the box opened the scoring. The second came from a lovely Ramsey pass over the
top of the Malaysia defence, Theo Walcott timed his run and lobbed the onrushing keeper.
For years there's been peace - everyone to his own patch. We've
all had it sweet. I've done every single one of you favours in the past - I've

Facts are the enemy of truth...
Tottenham Hotspur have decided to continue their battle over the Olympic Stadium, and have gone
back to the High Court in attempt to force a judicial review of the decision to award the venue to
West Ham United. Spurs are refusing to accept defeat after last week's decision by Judge Mr Justice
Davis to reject their bid and that of Leyton Orient's.
What the FA Cup's all about: free trips to Vegas! Leyton Orient chairman Barry Hearn has honoured a

West Ham have moved a stage closer to occupying the Olympic Stadium after a high court judge
rejected applications from Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient to challenge the decision to select
West Ham as the preferred bidder for the stadium after the 2012 Games. Hotspurned and Disoriented
were both seeking judicial review of the OPLC's decision taken in February and the Government's
endorsement of their recommendation, as well as that of the Mayor, and also Newham Council's
decision to agree a potential £40m loan to fund conversion of the stadium in a joint venture with
West Ham.
Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient face a crucial week in oppostion to West Ham's Olympic Stadium
move, writes Paul Kelso in this morning's Telegraph. The clubs will discover within days whether
their challenge to United's tenancy of the Olympic Stadium has been successful after a High Court
judge spent the early part of this week considering their case.

In League One, the sense that this was to be the year of the south coast started to grow as
winter turn to spring. Brighton & Hove Albion soared away at the top of the table, and as the home
straight of the season came into view, the pre-season favourites Southampton also began to pull
away into the distance, themselves securing an automatic promotion place with a couple of games of
the season still to spare.

Last weekend Arsenal beat the soon-to-be Champions Man United. They worked hard, played well,
raised their game and deserved the three points from that game.
Yesterday, Arsenal lost 3-1 to Stoke City. They were careless, complacent, slipshod and deserved
absolutely nothing from the game.
And it sums this Arsenal team in a nutshell.
South African football mourns the death of Eddie Lewis. He died of cancer on May 2 in
Johannesburg at the age of 76. The Englishman played for Manchester United, Preston North End, West
Ham and Leyton Orient (1952-1963) before arriving in South Africa in 1970. Lewis coached Wits
University a white team to a famous 3-2 victory over Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs in the 1978
Mainstay Cup final.
Eddie Lewis, one of the original Busby Babes, has sadly lost his battle with cancer today. He
was born in Manchester in 1935 and played for Goslings before joining the Manchester United Junior
Athletic Club.
Lewis joined United in 1947 and made a total of 24 appearances, scoring 11 goals. He left United
for Preston and played for West Ham the season the Munich Air Disaster occurred.
