The Timbers limped into the derby on a six match winless slide while the Sounders came in red hot unbeaten in seven.
Portland's Strategy
For the second straight match, Kenny Cooper was left on the bench. John Spencer elected to play 4-1-4-1 to congest the midfield. Marcelin was brought on and played in a defensive midfield role for Portland.

This is it. With the Club America game gone and away, we can all turn our attention to the weekend's real match up. The Cascadia Cup is upon us once again and this time Seattle are taking a visit down to Portland. No doubt it's going to be a lot of fun for everyone involved. I have a lot to say about the upcoming match but I'll refrain from doing so in this post.

Kind of a slow news day for the Timbers, well at least yesterday was. Seems like the only thing anybody is talking about with regards to the team is Darlington Nagbe's goal and, well, there's only so many articles you can read about a single goal, as fantastic as it was regardless.

Other news today focuses around Sporting KC's rise to prominence and how they only have a few road games left and some player speculation outside of the Timbers.

Tomorrow is the end of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. As everybody expected at the beginning of the tournament the match will be between the USA and Mexico. It's going to be a very gritty, high intensity match that few will want to miss. Unfortunately, the soccer gods that be have decided to broadcast both the Portland Timbers vs.

I'm a bit late to the proceedings, but I'm here now. We're 0-0 in the 24th minute. The Sounders have Michael Tetteh playing left mid, Pat Noonan at the target forward spot, Taylor Graham and Jeff Parke at center back, and the rest of the normal characters.

I'll probably only update for big moments and probably some random observations.

Sounders win! Sounders win! Sure, it was in the Reserve League, but there are standings kept so it counts. Most notable of course will be the Michael Tetteh goal late, at least to those browsing the story, but more important to the future for real League play is who plays, and where.

Would anyone accept a season with a Heritage Cup and Reserve League title?

Blaise Nkufo is gone. And again, like in 2010, the spine is broken. All four players out due to health are in the spine, and specifically the attacking side of it. Yet, Seattle is one of the leaders in shots on goal. Coach Sigi Schmid has used different shapes, and very different starting lineups as he has tried to compensate for the minor injury to Steve Zakuani.

The final match of the Cascadia Summit gives fans an opportunity to see the depth of the Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders teams as the starters for both teams went earlier in the weekend. Seattle's Second XI features more speed on offense and less on defense.

For Vancouver the lineup will be several of their USSF D2 players will be on the pitch in Jay Nolly, Wes Knight and Nizar Khalfan.
