Benoit Assou Ekotto's spectacular 30 yard strike continued a tradition of Spurs long range bombs
in recent times - Danny Rose, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Tom Huddlestone, Kyle Walker, come to mind. The
first goal came from Aaron Lennon, cutting past Leighton Baines, after the left back completely
missed clearing a long diagonal ball from Ekotto, and then shooting past the diving Tim Howard.
So the Premier League season is finally here, it's Tottenham Hotspur's opening game versus
Everton..........
That's how the preview for this one should have started, but the unfortunate and unseemly
rioting of early August put paid to Spurs opening fixture. Now this is the game in hand it's vital
that Spurs get maximum points if they want to be taken seriously as title challengers.
Premier League Boot Room: December 31
When we see a referee of Howard Webb's quality give a penalty for Leon Osman's fall against
Sunderland on Boxing Day, we know we've got a problem.

This story will either have you thinking that some football fans need to "get a life", or that
some football fans' passion for the game is admirable. (After the flack I received over the Leon
Osman article, I'm saying nowt this time).

On Boxing Day, Martin O'Neill's Sunderland were a goal ahead and looking to pick up all three
points against Everton when, early in the second-half, the Toffees' diminutive schemer Leon Osman
ran into the Black Cats box with the intention of shooting on goal.
The world's most effective miskick The Premier League's biggest Christmas present came from referee
Howard Webb. He gave Everton the present of one Premier League point by awarding the Toffees this
penalty against Sunderland. Webb pointed to the spot when Leon Osman tripped himself in the Black
Cats' box after an enormous miskick.

Sunderland and Everton played out a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light today but Martin O'Neill's
men were robbed of all three points when Everton were awarded a penalty after Leon Osman kicked the
ground instead of the ball and fell over only for the referee to award a penalty to the Toffees to
make it 1-1.

Everton 1-1 Norwich City Premier League 17th December 2011
Dutch wideman Royston Drenthe rescued a point for Everton at Goodison Park after the Toffees had
failed to make their dominance against Norwich City count.

The Premiership world was shocked when Everton announced that American Landon Donovan will come
on loan to the Land of Toffee starting January 4th.
Okay, not shocked actually at all except for the fact that Everton actually got a quality player
to help them in a battle with Father Relegation, even if only for two months.

Everton 2-2 Aston Villa Premier League September 10 2011
Two ginger-haired Scots tacticians went head to head at Goodison Park on Saturday, with Moyes
and McCleish (surely ripe for a detective series?) watching their Everton and Villa sides share the
points.
There's no getting away from it, that was a poor performance against an Everton side unable (or
unwilling) to field a single recognised striker. We might owe a somewhat sheepish nod in the
referee's direction, but Petrov and Gabby somehow managed to cancel out Leon Osman's opener and
Leighton Baines' second half penalty to grab a hugely valuable point we barely deserved.
Liverpool are down 1-0 at the fortress known as Britannia Stadium, as a penalty converted by
Jonathan Walters has handed Stoke City a 1-0 lead heading into half-time.
Reds vice-captain Jamie Carragher was whistled for fouling Walters and the 27-year old Potters
winger made no mistake in confidently smashing his spot-kick in the upper center of the goal.
It's the first Premiership game after an international break and the transfer deadline day
changes. Since we last played, Luke Young and Jean II Makoun headed for pastures new, but were
replaced by Alan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas.
Here's how the two managers are going to look for the points today:
Hutton replaces Chris Herd in the only change to the starting line-up against Wolves, but Jenas
doesn't make the 18.
In most of the season previews I have read about Everton, most of them have stressed the importance
of keeping their small squad fit and being lucky with injuries if they are to succeed.
So to have one of their brightest young prospects and key attacking threats, Seamus Coleman,
crocked before the season began, is an ominous sign for the Toffees.
Quick Reminder, Real Life top me if you've read this before but Everton didn't start out the season
particularly well. Shocking, I know. This time around, it took them a little longer to revert to
being a top half team but they got there eventually with a late charge up the table well after
there was any chance of them challenging for a Europa Cup spot.
Everton have joined Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to sign Blackpool captain Charlie
Adam this summer, Goal.com can reveal.
Toffees manager David Moyes believes Adam's drive and creativity would improve the Everton side and
has made it known he would be interested in completing a deal for his fellow Scot.
Irish international Seamus Coleman scooped the Everton Young Player of the Season award at
the BT convention centre in Liverpool last night
Having broken into the first team last season, the Donegal born Irishman has made massive progress
since making his full Premier League debut at Fulham in September, making 39 appearances and
scoring six goals.
This excellent Leon Osman goal vs Man City gave Everton a 2-1 win over the Citizens in the Premier
League game between the two sides on May 7, 2011. The Osman goal against Man City was the winner
after Yaya Toure and Sylvain Distin had exchanged goals. Everton coach David Moyes likened Osman to
Toffees [.

Leon Osman has never made an international appearance despite seven solid seasons with Everton.
Is he England's ‘forgotten man'?On Saturday, a late Leighton Baines penalty cancelled out two Darren Bent strikes as Everton shared
the points with Aston Villa in a dramatic draw at Goodison Park.

In my infinite capacity to mess with a good thing, and in clear violation of the fantasy rules,
I've made the following trades today: Howard to Carson. I don't trust any of the cheaper keepers,
but West Brom is coming off a six-match unbeaten streak. They are on the road against a Sunderland
team in dire form and may see this match as their last chance for points for a while with Chelsea
and @
The international break has thrown me for a bit of a loop, especially on the heels of the FA Cup
break we just had. So I'm having a tough time getting back into the swing of of EPL things. But we
have to start somewhere, right? And what better place than with the team I assembled on the barn
door last weekend (two weeks ago!
Everton's 2-1 win over Fulham, and a Seamus Coleman goal was the perfect way for the young
Killybegs born international to head into next Saturday's Euro 2012 game against Macedonia and the
Uruguay friendly the following Tuesday.
The young Irishman says the win over Mark Hughes' side has given Everton a big lift ahead of the
fixture gap, and he hopes to see the team return to Merseyside with the same level of optimism once
the international fixtures are complete.
The 4th Round replay of Chelsea and Everton at Stamford Bridge needed penalties to decide the
outcome, with the Merseyside club pulling out the upset. I chose to cover this match because
Chelsea had a dilemma; they have a midweek Champions League match at Copenhagen. How much would
Chelsea play their first team?
A forlorn David Moyes described it as the "worst performance" he had ever seen in his 9 years in
charge of Everton as his side limped to a 2-0 defeat against Bolton yesterday. The performance in
the defeat went someway to explaining the current predicament Everton find themselves in, but it
was Moyes, slumped and stony-faced, looking tired and haggard that betrayed the trouble the
Merseyside club are in.
There's no doubt that a 2-2 result in the 215th Merseyside Derby was far from an ideal outcome at
Anfield, but -- aside from the short burst of Everton dominance to begin the second half -- this
was one of matches that should be viewed as more encouraging than disappointing.
Most strikingly, Raul Meireles continued to emerge from his shell and was perhaps the best player
on the pitch.
Goals from Meireles and Kuyt aren't enough as the points are shared.
For the first 45 minutes, the script seemed to be playing out almost exactly as planned. Kenny
Dalglish back on the Anfield touchline facing Everton in the derby, and Liverpool playing positive,
pressing, attractive football.
