It had to happen sooner than later. Joel Santana stepped down as SA coach. After the invigorating display by the Bafana Bafana at the Confederations Cup this summer amidst the vuvuzelas, the team went into a tailspin.

Santana's ultra cautious approach and reliance on two defensive midfielders stifled the team's attacking instincts leading to eight losses in nine friendlies, the latest one coming against Iceland five days ago.

Leo Beenhakker announced a list of players called up for the friendly games against South Africa and Iraq. Artur Boruc is left out of the squad due to personal reasons (that's an official version at least) and Kuba Blaszczykowski won't play in the frendlies since he still has fitness problems. Leo wanted to include Ludovic Obraniak in the squad, but the Lille player is yet to be granted the Polish citizenship.

Squad Watch: Week 7. Title Race Still On In Poland.

Not much changed in the race for the Polish championship after Legia Warsaw drew with Lech Poznan at the weekend. In the game watched by Leo Beenhakker Legia was much better in the first half, whereas Lech controlled the game after the break. The third championship contender, Wisla Krakow, is most satisfied with the result.
