Dynamo Press Release
CARSON, CA (Sunday, February 12, 2012) -- The Houston Dynamo lost their first match of the
preseason, falling to the Portland Timbers 2-0 Sunday morning at The Home Depot Center, in Carson,
Calif. Jack Jewsbury and James Marcelin provided the second-half goals for Portland.
The U.S. Women's National Team came from behind thanks to two late Alex Morgan goals to defeat
New Zealand, 2-1, in an international friendly on Saturday afternoon at FC Dallas Stadium (formerly
Pizza Hut Park) in Frisco, Texas. Morgan, who gained a reputation as a super-sub during the 2011
Women's World Cup, started this match, but still saved her best for late, tallying in the 88th
minute and deep into stoppage time.
Manchester United once again showed their "Never Die" attitude after successfully coming back
from a three goals down to hold Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, providing a confidence boost despite
the result creates a gap again with league leader Manchester City.
Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez once again acted as the Red Devils savior as the former bagged
a brace, both from the spot kick, while the latter scored the decisive equalizer, which rescued
important points for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Barcelona rallied from a goal down to ensure a 1-1 draw against Valencia in the first leg of
their semi final showdown in the Copa del Rey.
La Mestalla provided all of the hostility the Catalans could handle, as Valencia came
out of the gates in a surging frenzy, mounting unrelenting pressure in the opening minutes trying
to force a crack in Barcelona's defensive armor.

Gabon striker Pierre Eymerick Aubameyang has been catching the eye at the Africa Cup of Nations,
not only for his stellar performances but also for his incredibly uninhibited choice in
follicular arrangement, opting for a ginger Mohawk formation that is pitched firmly halfway
between looking 'out-bloody-rageous' and 'like the matted hair that tends to accumulate in and
around the wrong end of a dog'.

The result implies dominance, and Liverpool were fairly dominant throughout, but 3-0 did not look
likely at half-time.
Sure, had Liverpool taken one of their multiple first half chances, most notably from Kuyt in the
third minute, or had Anthony Taylor given Adam an absolutely dead certain penalty in the 35th, the
side might have strolled to victory sooner.

After D.C. United and the Chicago Fire had their fair share of defensive struggles throughout
the 2011 MLS campaign, the two teams both had a notable silver lining to take away from their
friendly Sunday: no goals allowed.
There are a number of indications from the Arsenal camp that there won't be any major signings
arriving at the Emirates Stadium for the remainder of the winder transfer window.
For starters, manager Arsene Wenger has made it clear that the return of Bacary Sagna and Kieran
Gibbs to full training diminishes the need to seek a new full-back.
Four days after putting together an impeccable performance against Venezuela, the United States
had to overcome a sloppy and disheveled showing to escape Estadio Rommel Fernandez with a 1-0 win
over Panama Wednesday night.
Graham Zusi's ninth minute goal survived more than 85 minutes of as Panama squandered countless
chances to equalize against a maligned back line during the international friendly.

United made it Manchester 2-0 North London in the second of Sunday's super-duper
all-singing-all-dancing encounters, beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates to whittle City's lead at
the summit of the Premier League back down from six points to three.

Alexis Sanchez's last gasp goal saw Barcelona rally deep in the second half to defeat Real Betis
4-2 at the Camp Nou.
After a quick start, Barcelona were forced to watch Betis comeback from two goals down, nearly
stealing the match and ending Barcelona's aspirations for a fourth consecutive La Liga title.
Manchester city headed 3 points clear as they recorded a win over Wigan although the match
certainly won't go down as one of the greatest City performances of all time. I got a rather uneasy
feeling just before kick-off and it proved to be quite a nervy game all round as, I think it's fair
to say, City scrapped away to get a 1-0 victory in a half empty DW Stadium.

Sacha Kljestan and RSC Anderlecht returned to league action this weekend for the first time
since December, and they both picked up right where they left off.
RSC Anderlecht continued its winning ways with a 3-0 victory over third-place Club Brugge on
Sunday.
A real 3 pointer today, what with Spurs and Liverpool dropping points at home.
We all know that Swansea are a very difficult side to beat at the Liberty Stadium, in fact only
MU have won there this season. The Swans have conceded just 4 goals at home (compared to AFC's 6)
and have drawn half their home games (5/10) Spurs gained a very squeaky point a couple of weeks
ago and Swansea will go into the game full of confidence.

With so many gifted African players now plying their trade in the Premier League, the African
Cup of Nations has become something of an issue for managers in the top division, particularly as
it is held slap bang in the middle of the season.
John Terry's BFF, Wayne Bridge rumoured to be on Wenger's radar
A bridge to nowhere. With Thomas Vermaelen out with a calf strain, there is officially no left
back specialist left on the Arsenal senior roster. In the match Wenger subbed off Vermaelen
replacing him with Francis Coquelin who looked a bit suspect when tracking back but looked in his
element pushing up the channel.

An effervescent Swansea side stroking the ball with ease pinned the Hydra headed Spurs attack
for lengthy spells. Against the run of play Spurs went up just before the half with Rafael Van Der
Vaart's goal after Benoit Assou- Ekotto had done all the spadework down the left flank.
Two sets of fairly gifted attackers: one set made space and moved the ball like lightning, the
other kept on trying to walk the ball through the most crowded area of the pitch. The game finished
5-0.
We may feel aggrieved at the scoreline, which did flatter United slightly, but our attacking
play, though exciting, was not very bright.

The Anfield club are not flattered by angry words which appear to contradict so much of the good
work they have done in the fight against racism It is more than 30 years since Howard Gayle became
Liverpool's first black player.
With the loss of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon on Sunday, Spurs lost much of the potency that had
helped them climb the Premiership table and into third place.
Ultimately we won the game but if you saw a brief but apt Match of the Day package on Sunday
night, you'll have seen where Bale in particular, was sorely missed.
What has two thumbs and couldn't be more desperate to leave?Hold tight comrades, this is the
serious shit now. Rejuvenated Sunderland came to the Lane on Sunday with a cunning plan to further
derail our campaign after the damage inflicted by Corporal Pulis' Stoke Taskforce the week before
(ably assisted by rear gunner Foy, it must be said).
Please forgive the lateness of the match report at I was out all day and didn't finish watching
the game until 1 a.m. Mountain Time.
It was a cold and brisk evening in the United Arab Emirates Manchester where Arsenal would line up

FC Dallas traded Honduran winger Marvin Chavez to the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday, securing
an allocation in the process.
The deal sent Chavez, who enjoyed a standout season in Dallas, to San Jose, where he should slot
right in as the team's starting right winger.
Chavez delivered six goals and four assists for FC Dallas, providing a perfect complement on the
right wing to Brek Shea's forays from the left flank.
In the first part of this series, we ran the rule over the current United roster. In this second
part, we'll compile a list of wants by position, setting us up for the grand finale, where we put
those wants in order...

Under fire Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has gotten backing from coach Andre Villas- Boas
concerning his future with the club. The Spanish international who was bought from Liverpool in
January for £50 million, has consistently been included in Chelsea's starting 11 in spite of his
lack of goals.
Tottenham Hotspur went to the Tallaght stadium needing a Lyon type turnaround to make it through
to the knock-out rounds. From his team selection, including only choosing four subs, it appeared
that Harry Redknapp wasn't really counting on the results going Spurs way.
As the game got started it was clear that Shamrock would try hard and run around a lot.

There were several noteworthy performances from the Americans Abroad contingent this weekend,
but none was better than the match put in by Oguchi Onyewu.
Onyewu was the only American to find the back of the net this past weekend, as he hit the winner
in Sporting CP's 1-0 victory over CD Nacional de Madeira.

Liverpool play well for large spells and endure a late QPR surge to get the result they needed
at Anfield, using the one chance they finished to get all three points. The result's obviously most
important, particularly on the heels of the disappointment at Craven Cottage earlier in the
week.

Why England must NEVER turn to a foreign boss again
I remember December 17, 2007, as though it was yesterday. And to adapt and sanitise an old Frank
Carson gag ... you know what a terrible day yesterday was. On the left flank of a top table in a
London hotel suite sat Trevor Brooking, with the sort of demeanour a father might have at his
daughter's wedding to the local scoundrel.

The Cardinal advanced to soccer's version of the Final Four by completing its third straight
unbeaten season, a feat that parallels the great University of North Carolina teams with Mia Hamm
in the early 1990s.
I'm proud of the team today.
An Arsenal side composed mostly of our youth players and our second string benchwarmers did much
better than anybody expected, outplaying a "reserve" Man City side that still had the likes of
Nasri, Dzeko, Aguero, Johnson, and De Jong on the pitch and which likely cost more to assemble than
15 first XI's in the EPL.

Timmy Chandler may have scored a goal on Saturday, but he wasn't the only U.S. men's national
team defender to make an impact with his left foot.
Jonathan Spector helped rescue Birmingham City from defeat, assisting on an 87th-minute

Signing a Barcelona player would, in itself, normally suffice to excite fans of any club.
However, the fact the Spanish forward was just one of a plethora of new signings at
Benfica this summer, which included the much heralded Bruno César, Enzo Pérez
and Axel Witsel, meant that when the 2011/12 season kicked off, Nolito was considered anything but
the star turn.
Both of Liverpool's goals against Chelsea were fantastic, strikes which have an excellent chance of
showing up on various best-of-season lists. The first showed the benefits of pressing from the
front and quick pass and move football, the second direct football at its finest: a cross-field
diagonal opening up acres of space for an attacking full-back bombing forward.
It wasn't a game USA fans will be re-watching for entertainment purposes, or one American
