19:45 Barnsley v Sheffield Utd, Championship, Sky Sports 1/HD1
Start the week with a thundering Yorkshire derby if that's your pleasure. An Eee Ba Gum Classico if
you will. Both teams are two of six on 17 points making it tighter than a gnat's chuff in the
middle of the Championship.

Dirty, dirty Leeds. Dirty fucking Leeds. After reading David Peace's novel The Damned UTD these
words cycled through my head for days. They work as an obsessive refrain in David Peace's account
of Brian Clough's infamous 44 days as the manager of (dirty, dirty) Leeds.
I knew nothing about Clough, Leeds, and this bizarre story before reading Peace's novel - that I
enjoyed the book, and felt as if Clough himself, in all his puerile genius, had wormed his way into
my head is as good a testimony as I can give to the intensity and distinctiveness of Peace's
writing.

Good news from Anfield as summer signing Alberto Aquilani has begun running after his protracted
ankle problem finally seems to have been cleared up, lets hope he is soon fit for first-team as I
am dying to get a look at the play maker bought to try to replace the Great Xabi Alonso. That's for
another day as we face Hull at Anfield today where we will be looking for a good win to avenge last
season's 2-2 draw in the same fixture when Stevie Gerrrard brought us back from the dead with two
fine goals after Hull had gone two up after a McShane header and a Carra own goal had left us
scratching our heads at half-time.

We start this week with another all-too-rare dipping of the toes into the world of Northern Irish

19.45 Darlington v Leeds Utd, Carling Cup 1st Round, Sky Sports 1/HD1
Leeds scored five at this stage of the competition last season and made it as far as the fourth
round. Darlington's journey ended in extra time at Watford in round two. Leeds didn't really
convince against newly-promoted Exeter at the weekend but did a lot better than Darlington who were
comfortably beaten by Aldershot.

history, the passion of the fans and their desire for success diluted with a realistic and humorous
outlook on the game. Instead, the familiarity these days is apparent for a different reason. It
doesn't take a genius [.
