Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill admits that the Black Cats will have their hands full when they
entertain Arsenal at the Stadium of Light today, particularly given the dexterity of Gunners
youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The teenage sensation has quickly become a fan favorite at Arsenal, setting up Robin van
Persie's equalizer in the 2-1 defeat against Manchester United and then displaying his scoring
abilities by netting twice in last weekend's 7-1 destruction of Blackburn.
Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has named a 24-man squad for the upcoming international
friendly against the Czech Republic in Dublin on February 29th.
Speaking after the squad announcement, the Irish boss said, "This game is the beginning of our Euro
2012 preparations.
"As we face this fixture, it is important for our players to remember the attitude and performance
that brought us qualification.

There will be no hero's send-off for Thierry Henry.
After Henry scored the final goal in a 7-1 Arsenal victory over Blackburn last weekend, Arsenal
manager Arsene Wenger eluded to the possibility of extending Henry's loan up to the London derby
against Tottenham on Feb.
After Grayson – A new dawning for our club? A solid 3-0 win for caretaker manager Redfearn at
Bristol sees him given at least the next three games in charge, before the board makes a managerial
decision. But with the club CEO on holiday and the chairman staying in Monaco as he has a cold (!),
no new managerial position was likely to be even looked at, let alone considered this week.

USA 2014 World Cup Squad Projection Version 1.5 - The 90th Minute Soccer Blog
It's been a few months since the initial projection and it's changed a bit with several
friendlies taking place. Overall, the core of the team remains the same with the final spots still
unclear. This projection is of what the team (23 man squad) will be for the World Cup (in 2014) and
not during qualifying.

United States fullback Eric Lichaj has completed his return from a hip injury that kept him out
of action for the better part of the last five months, making the bench for Aston Villa's first
team in its last two matches. Despite Lichaj being a candidate to go on loan upon his return, Aston
Villa appears to be remain committed to seeing what he can do for the club, even if that means
moving him to a new spot on the field.

first for Arsenal in the 11/12 season since his goal against Leeds in the FA Cup.
In January, I cast an eye on the unending cacophony of abuse in online football communities, with
a section on Doncaster Rovers website Viva Rovers, and provoking a compelling spate of comments
involving Leeds United blog, The Scratching Shed. The problems are not confined to Yorkshire alone,
but as an important follow up, Michael Wood here provides an epitaph on the Bradford City site, Boy
from Brazil, one of the very best chronicles online and one that closed towards the end of 2011.
Grayson gone! This weeks show looks at the implications of this sadly expected sacking and in
true Twiggster style, looks forward to the future with hope and looks back on Grayson's tenure at
our club.
The sacking overshadows an horrendous 4-1 home defeat to Birmingham in midweek and a truly
abysmal January transfer window.

The winter transfer window closed this past Tuesday, and a pair of Americans who secured moves
during it will be looking to make their debuts this weekend.
George John and Robbie Rogers could make their first appearances abroad for West Ham United and
Leeds United, respectively, as the Championship gets back into a full weekend swing.

eh? Grayson was fired yesterday after a 4-1 loss to Jonathan Spector's Birmingham City, replaced by
Leeds Youth Team manager Neil Redfearn, at least on.
Arsenal starlet Francis Coquelin has hailed the locker room impact of legendary on-loan striker
Thierry Henry, insisting that the veteran does not need to be on the pitch all the time to offer
his leadership.
Henry's two-month spell at the Emirates began with a bang as his decisive goal knocked Leeds
United out of the FA Cup but the Frenchman has since been sidelined with injury concerns.

After three years in charge, a promotion from League One and decent finish in the Championship
last year, Leeds United have seen fit in their infinite wisdom to sack manager Simon Grayson with
the club 'languishing' in tenth position after losing 4-1 at home to Birmingham last night.
The winter transfer window across Europe closed on Tuesday, and a number of teams -- not the usual
big-spenders -- that were scrambling to fill vacancies and address needs for the second half of
their respective seasons were able to add some valuable pieces to the puzzle.
Queens Park Rangers fall into that category, adding firepower in the form of former Lazio
striker Djibril Cisse and Fulham forward Bobby Zamora.

It is a wild day across England, with the rapid-fire closing of the transfer window being
accompanied by a full slate of mid-week matches. While the transfer window doesn't figure to
include any more Americans making moves to England, there could be some notable performances by
U.
The winter transfer window in Europe is set to close today, and teams are still scrambling to
fill vacancies and address needs for the second half of their respective seasons.
While we don't seem likely to have any megastars making winter transfer moves, despite resurgent
rumors of Carlos Tevez to AC Milan, there is still some serious talent changing addresses.
It wasn't exactly Premiership action over the weekend but it was still a
FA Cup Party out there, nonetheless! Arsenal, of course, deserve a round
of applause for springing back from two goals down to make it 3-2 against Aston
Villa yesterday.
The tripartite nature of footballing rivalry in the north-east of England means that this
afternoons FA Cup Fourth Round match between Sunderland and Middlesbrough has a hint of being a
local derby about it without fully appearing to be the real thing.
Still, supporters of both of these clubs have cause to give a wry smile this afternoon.
Arsenal head into Sunday's FA Cup fourth round clash with Aston Villa on the back of three
consecutive league defeats, but they have still been deemed the favourites by many European
bookmakers to emerge victorious.
Arsenal and Villa last played an FA Cup match nearly 29 years ago at the good old Highbury,
where the Gunners progressed courtesy of a 2-0 win.

Leeds United have signed MLS star Robbie Rogers on an 18-month contract from Columbus Crew.
The 24-year agreed personal terms on January 10 but had to wait for his work permit to be approved
before he could become officially part of the squad at Elland Road.
Rogers was given a taste of football in England in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Newcastle
last week but was unable to feature for the reserves because not all of his paperwork had been
completed.
Norwich City have completed the signing of Jonny Howson from Leeds United. A fee was agreed last
week, but the Canaries have now confirmed the transfer after the midfielder completed his medical
at Carrow Road.
Those who assess in play betting strategy note how the signing is one of many Norwich have made
from outside of the Premier League as they build a strong squad to continue the success Paul
Lambert has already brought to the club.
Championship side Leeds United have accepted a bid from Norwich City for their club captain Jonny
Howson.
The midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer, is a product of the Leeds academy and has
made 225 for the club. The Leeds skipper is currently on the sidelines through injury, but it is
thought he will open contract talks with the Canaries this week.
We have noted before on this site that football supporters can be considerably more patient
than we are ever given credit for. Indeed, some might even say that we are too patient. In recent
years, we have put up with increasing ticket prices, the desecration of the atmosphere inside
grounds and policing methods that would raise an eyebrow were they to be practiced in a
totalitarian state.

The Africa Cup of Nations started on Saturday in west Africa. It's a competition that gives
supporters in Europe of over-saturated leagues a chance to see some new and exciting talent. The
opening match in Bata was between the hosts Equatorial Guinea in their first Africa Cup of Nations,
and Libya who qualified for the tournament under a backdrop of civil war and unrest at home.

official Scarf. There's one problem, today is the last day you can pre-order the scarfs. Time is
up at Noon, which is a half hour from now.
With training camps starting to fire up across Major League Soccer, that means more news is
going to start rolling in and that means the official return of Major Link Soccer.

Robbie Rogers' move to Leeds United has not yet been completed, but the move seems all but done
after Rogers was approved for a work permit.
Not having played the required amount of games for the U.S. men's national team, Rogers
qualified for a work permit on special dispensation.
This week sees the longest ever rant from Twiggster, after being interrupted during the
recording, by the news of our captain apparently moving to Norwich!
Apart from that, we have news of trialists at our club, U.18 and reserves wins and of course
listener emails! And it seems like the Robbie Rogers deal is going ahead!

-LA to re-sign David Beckham tomorrow.

Thierry Henry has been able to provide a spark for Arsenal in his brief time on loan with the
club, but the Gunners may have to look elsewhere for inspiration during their crucial match this
weekend.
Henry picked up a calf strain in training, and his status is uncertain for Arsenal's match
against Manchester United.
One advantage of Peter Ridsdale and Graham Westley being together as chairman and manager
respectively of Preston North End is that they may only end up annoying each other and messing
around with only one club. I recognise that will not have brightened the day of any Lilywhites
fans. And I can only apologise.
