Tifo Video: Sydney FC Supporters

Pitch Invasion 26 October @ 11:40 AM EST

A new series on Pitch Invasion debuts, though it's actually a bit of a return to our roots as half the reason I started this site back in the day was to show tifo displays from around the world.

To kick things off, we look at Australia with a video documenting the making and display of a variety of banners by supporters of Sydney FC in the A-League.

Who Owns a Soccer Club? Creating Tribalism

Pitch Invasion 16 September @ 08:16 AM EST

In addition to being the Chicago Red Stars President and CEO, I am also an owner of the team...and I am a Red Stars fan. None of that needs to be mutually exclusive.

In the Red Stars case, thousands are fans of the club, hundreds are supporters and only a select few are actual owners. While that is true, it is my goal to have the role of Red Stars fan equate virtually to the role of  Red Stars owner for all Red Stars fans.

Dortmund Considers Liverpool's Voronin To Replace Frei

Anfield Talk 18 July @ 02:04 PM EST
Following the departure of Alexander Frei to Basel, Dortmund are preparing to swoop for his replacement.
Names on the list include Nantes' Ivan Klasnic, Robert Lewandoski of Lech Poznan, and interestingly Andriy Voronin of Liverpool.
While Klasnic is reported by Bild to be their number one target, the Croatian only moved to France last season, signing a four-year deal, thus that idea could prove to be too expensive for Dortmund to implement. Click to continue reading...

The Capo

Pitch Invasion 10 June @ 04:50 PM EST

What motivates a supporter to spend every game with his back turned to the action on the pitch? To spend the game imploring other supporters to sing, chant, jump in unison? To be the man on the stand, above the fray, to be recognised by all in his end of the stadium?

Capo, Zenit Saint Petersburg

That man (I've yet to hear of a female capo worldwide) is typically known in ultras circles as the capo, which is (roughly speaking) Italian for "leader".

Livin’ La Vida Loca: Polish Pyro & Protest

Pitch Invasion 26 May @ 08:43 PM EST

Poland is preparing to host (half of) Euro 2012, and campaigns by the Polish FA and government to crack down on ultras groups at clubs across the country are producing a visceral backlash.

We've covered Polish fans' protests before here, but events have taken a further turn with the recent news that new legislation this summer means ultras caught lighting pyrotechnics inside a football stadium will face up to five years in prison.

Football video: Nancy’s Gennaro Bracigliano walks ball into net

Off the Post 08 November @ 05:00 AM EST
A goalkeeping howler of epic proportions "Hey, Gennaro. Welcome to goalkeeping school. Lesson one: under no circumstances do you walk across your goalline with the ball in your possession.
