I'll always remember the first game of football I ever went to: I was aged six; the location was
Aggborough in Kidderminster as the Harriers took on Aston Villa in Graham Allner's testimonial. It
was a few years before I was ever introduced to top flight football at Villa Park or First Division
football at Molineux.
Manchester City's Mario Balotelli could quit English football over the perceived unfair treatment
he has been receiving, his agent has claimed.
The striker has been charged with violent conduct by the FA, which will carry a four match ban if
he and City don't contest the charge.
The charge relates to an incident in Sunday's match against Spurs, in which he appeared to stamp on
Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker.
Guardian: Which former player would you bring back to your club?
Paul Scholes and Thierry Henry have returned to former clubs, but which old stalwarts would you
like to make a comeback? After the comebacks of Thierry Henry and Paul Scholes, we asked Premier
League fans who they would like to see return.
Liverpool play Manchester City three times over the next month, and the given the club's great
recent record against the top teams in the league, fans will be confident that Kenny Dalglish's
team can get results in all three games. Anfield legend Alan Hansen isn't so sure though, and he's
predicted that City will knock Liverpool out of the Carling Cup.
One of the big weekend stories involves America's most well known soccer player, Landon Donovan,
and his decision to accept a short term loan deal to English side Everton. Though not a business
story in the traditional sense, Donovan's temporary move has the added benefit of shining a global
light upon Major League Soccer and bringing attention to the league.

Ranked joint-bottom of FIFA's world rankings (204th), with a score of zero points to their name,
American Samoa went in to a World Cup Qualifying clash against Tonga (ranked 202nd) as underdogs.
However, defensive player Johnny 'Jayieh' Saelua, making his debut, would help make history for
the most minnowy of all minnows for two reasons.

Well, I'm speechless to think up even an introduction. From beating Arsenal 8-2 to getting run
over 6-1 by City how things change. So let us just fast forward to the five things I observed from
the humiliation this evening. Apologies in case you find your knees jerking after reading this.
1.

David Moyes has clinched the signing of James McFadden on a free transfer, boosting Everton's
creativity. The Scot is no stranger to Goodison Park, having made 109 appearances for the
Toffees.
Since his release from the relegated Birmingham City, McFadden has been training with clubs
throughout England, including Mick McCarthy's Wolverhampton Wanderers side.
Soccer clubs all over Australia see themselves as masters of the grassroots and sit waiting in
their club houses for their local A-League team to see the apparently obvious and come knocking. In
the absence of this knock, they carry on.
The A-League grassroots are the untapped crowd potential.
Families that enrol their kids at the local have taken a step that indicates that they are
interested in watching the sport.
Yesterday we posted a poll to determine what you think the best candidate destination would be for
Major League Soccer's 20th team. The overwhelming winner was Minnesota, and although an e-mail
and Twitter campaign may have significantly contributed to the success of the Twin City area, there
are definite upsides to moving MLS up North.
Everton have announced the loan signing of Real Madrid winger Royston Drenthe. The 24 year old
Dutchman joins the club on a season long loan from Los Blancos, and is expected to
immediately slot into David Moyes' side.
Drenthe impressed during his time at Feyenoord, operating as a skillful and quick left back, and
promptly earned a €14 million move to Real Madrid.

Wigan and Aston Villa have agreed a £9.5M deal that will send winger Charles N'Zogbia to Villa
Park. This is massive news for Premier League fans and fantasy football managers alike. N'Zogbia
saved Wigan from relegation last season with his ... Continue reading →
So Marc Pelosi, a seventeen-year-old rising star of American soccer, may be be headed to
Liverpool to develop his skills in the Reds' youth program. He has made an interesting comment: "I
have been told the current Barcelona coach said that if you don't go to Barcelona, the second best
place to develop is at Liverpool.
To Birtley yesterday for the unusual treat of enjoying three games for just three quid.
The Northern Leagues United day was raising funds for both Birtley Town and Cobaltore Onagawa, a
Japanese club from the area of that country devastated by this year's tsunami.
The highlight of the day, I'm using the term loosely, was a clash between Northern League Fans and
a motley collection of Football Writers.
What a final day for the English Premier League. Fans of Blackburn, Wigan and Wolverhampton will
be cheering for months (and Aston Villa fans too) as their beloved clubs stay up. Meanwhile, there
was nothing but heartbreak for Birmingham City and Blackpool fans.
Nearly every scenario came into play over the 90 minutes of the league's final day, with Wigan
and Wolves both looking like they could be going down with less than 20 minutes to play in each of
their games.
Here in England, even the neutrals seem to have a quiet affection for young Gareth Bale, a man who
seems to have emerged from nowhere to become one of the best players on the planet. So talented is
the Spurs man that even Arsenal fans have had no choice but to send plaudits his way, watching him
rip apart the best teams in Europe and become a prime transfer target for the continent's elite and
the football rumours reflect this.
As the nation gears up for another FA Cup weekend journalists and TV producers are desperately
searching around for the most romantic FA Cup angle to fill their endless coverage.
Non-league Crawley Town, the first side from outside the football league to get to the fifth round
for 17 years, is an obvious story given they are heading to Old Trafford to take on the footballing
behemoth that is Manchester United.
SINGAPORE, 10 February 2011: The Great Eastern – YEO'S S.League kicks off this
Saturday, 12 February and for the first time in opening game history, Courts Young Lions and SAFFC
will take to the centre circle at 5pm.
Both sides played to a 7-goal thriller in two of their last three encounters in the S.
The DC United third shirt announcement got me thinking about the distribution of shirt colors in
MLS, notably the common complaint amongst league fans that "everything is red and blue" with navy
blue often singled out as a particularly egregious offender. So I did what seemed logical and
headed for a spreadsheet (sad, I know, but true).
