Continuing the series where we vote "River" for players that we want to see DC United cast away and
we vote "Life" for players that we hope will return, let's take a look now at DCU's defenders. I
have a feeling this group will prove more interesting than the defensive midfielders, who received
mostly favorable ratings.

Finishing 1-1 against the leader of the Mexican Primera Division on the road is a better result
than most of us expected, and probably a better result than we deserved. Still, thanks to some
inspired play by a few individuals, and some poor shooting by Toluca, we emerged with a single
point.
A win would have secured our spot in the Champions' League quarterfinals, but let's not count
ourselves out yet.

This weekend had set itself up really nicely for DC United. After losses by Seattle and RSL, and
ties by Colorado, Chivas, and Toronto, DC United only needed a home victory against the worst road
team in the leauge in order to move into 5th place. But the underdogs continued to impress. Not
only did United lose, but they really deserved to lose.

This win was exactly what we needed. Nothing will inspire confidence in a team fighting for playoff
position like a multiple goal victory in which we were clearly the better team.
The offense is clicking, and oh yeah, that's 3 shutouts in our last 4 matches. With a makeshift
backline at that.

Following their 1-0 win at San Juan Jabloteh on Sept 15th, the guys have been resting up,
practicing, and hopefully getting some tactical and finishing work in before their next game on
Thursday, against Marathon. I've been doing much of the same, save for the practicing or working on
my finishing.

We'll shortly announce that the club has signed defender Lawson Vaughn. The 25-year old
has been training with the team for several days and will take the place of defender Greg Janicki,
who has been put on the disabled list with back spasms.
Vaughn spent three and a half seasons as a member of Chivas USA, before being waived earlier
this year.

It is looking more and more likely that if the Dynamo want a stadium in downtown Houston, they are
going to need Texas Southern University's backing. Good news for the Dynamo, TSU's new athletic
direct Charles McClelland is very interested in such a venture.
"My understanding of the proposal is that the Houston Dynamo and Texas Southern
University would share the use of the stadium, including some signage, so it would be the home of
Texas Southern University athletics and football program," McClelland said Wednesday, two days
after meeting with a city official involved in the stadium negotiations.
