Major League Soccer's decision to conduct its semifinal playoff rounds at the same time as this
international break has severally hamstrung Bob Bradley's selection. With two very interesting
friendlies against European sides that have already qualified for next summer's World Cup, these
matchups would have provided an opportunity to test some of the best we have to offer.

Last night's Match of the Day was great fun, for obvious reasons. But as the games wore on,
I couldn't help feel sorry for Hull City. Here we saw them lose 2-0 at Burnley, and fall victim
to some fairly ordinary refereeing. When you're struggling these things seem to happen, and
Phil Brown is now under a lot of pressure (as if he wasn't before).

A quick opportunity then to put the derby defeat behind us and get back on track.
There has been a huge media focus on us in recent times, mainly for non-footballing issues it has
to be said, so it would be nice to focus solely on on-pitch matters and this competition does offer
us the best opportunity to land a trophy.

Off for the weekend. Wedding in Darlington. Last time I was in Darlington was to watch
Fulham lose at Middlesbrough. A pointless trip in every sense. That was Lawrie Sanchez's
team, losing to Mark Viduka. Sigh.
I leave you with this:
Manu Chao, La Primavera.

Am I the only one thinking that Newcastle will finish bottom of the Premier League this season?
After selling their best player in Shay Given, the team has lacked purpose and quality, and due to
the unfortunate manager changes, (of course Joe Kinnear receiving heart by=pass surgery was an
unforeseeable event), the tactics have been all over the place, and Newcastle just haven't worked
out how to play football.

Why doesn't Roy Hodgson get the credit he deserves in the United Kingdom? As I've mentioned before,
In Scandinavia and Italy, he's held in high regard, in Britain people point to his sacking at
Blackburn Rovers back in1997. With 33 points gained so far this season, Fulham are one win away
from emulating their points [.

London Informer - Botched op did for CookieAug 14 2008 London Informer
Lee Cook's woes last season go all the way back to a botched operation - that, and his one-and-only
selection as a Fulham player.
The popularly-held belief was the QPR winger was desperate to play in the friendly between his old
and new clubs in August, 2007.

The lone American goal scorer from World Cup 2006 now has consistently played so poorly for the
national team if the opponent is not Barbados, that his presence seems to actually help stagnate
the side. Dempsey's last good performance for the National Team against a decent opponent was last
October in Switzerland.

Roy Hodgson is one of the great unsung English managers of the last 30 years and I'm a big fan of
Englands most underated manager. A polite, erudite professor of the game and
an intelligent, well spoken man, he's simply never received the recognition his career
and achievements deserve in England due to the majority of his success being on [.

Obviously reading this, it's almost a case of deja vu/"been there; done that" but
given that the other top contender for Watson, Birmingham have been signing other players; and
given that Watson has a declining value to Palace, sounds (hopefully) plausible.According to today's Mirror (via BBC Gossip)"QPR manager Iain Dowie is expected to complete the signing of Ben Watson from Crystal Palace
for £1.

Interesting. Lafferty was, of course, a Lawrie Sanchez target. What intrigues me is the possibility
of Rangers being a Northern Ireland attraction. We know that the blue half of Glasgow and the North
part of Ireland are aligned through religion, just as Ireland and Celtic are linked; I wonder if [.

Another Premiership manager has bitten the dust as Fulham fired Lawrie Sanchez today with immediate

who started the year with a Premiership club and have been fired or have left by "mutual consent"
during the season.

Following Lawrie Sanchez' sacking by Fulham, surely any right thinking person will hope the IFA
do all that is humanly possible to reinstate him in the NI job. I remind readers of what Lorry said
on the 14th of May 2007:
"There is never a good time to go but as I've always said I would rather go when the team is on
a high than have to leave because the team is doing poorly.

Luis Aragonés just became my favorite international manager. The 69-year-old Spaniard decided not
to call-up Fernando Torres for Spain's two Euro-qualifiers with Sweden and Northern Ireland. With
Xabi injured and Arbeloa not under consideration, it means only Pepe Reina will be with La Furia
Roja, though with Iker Casillas still the number one, Reina probably won't play.

Steven Gerrard has added another honor to his long list of accolades by being named to the 2006-07
FIFPro XI. Surprisingly, it's the first time he's won the distinction. He also became the first
Liverpool player to be named to the list, which is selected by 'more than 57,000 footballers from
players' associations around the world.' A bit baffling as to why Gianluigi Buffon was named to the
side though.
