The Return of Familiar Faces

Major League Soccer Talk 09 November @ 07:38 AM EST

Major League Soccer's decision to conduct its semifinal playoff rounds at the same time as this international break has severally hamstrung Bob Bradley's selection. With two very interesting friendlies against European sides that have already qualified for next summer's World Cup, these matchups would have provided an opportunity to test some of the best we have to offer.

Off track: defending Hull City’s Phil Brown

Craven Cottage Newsround 01 November @ 06:30 AM EST

Last night's Match of the Day was great fun, for obvious reasons. But as the games wore on, I couldn't help feel sorry for Hull City. Here we saw them lose 2-0 at Burnley, and fall victim to some fairly ordinary refereeing. When you're struggling these things seem to happen, and Phil Brown is now under a lot of pressure (as if he wasn't before).

Fulham preview

Bitter and Blue 23 September @ 04:00 AM EST
A quick opportunity then to put the derby defeat behind us and get back on track.
There has been a huge media focus on us in recent times, mainly for non-footballing issues it has to be said, so it would be nice to focus solely on on-pitch matters and this competition does offer us the best opportunity to land a trophy. Click to continue reading...

Craven Cottage Newsround 04 September @ 05:14 PM EST

Off for the weekend. Wedding in Darlington. Last time I was in Darlington was to watch Fulham lose at Middlesbrough. A pointless trip in every sense. That was Lawrie Sanchez's team, losing to Mark Viduka. Sigh.

I leave you with this:

Manu Chao, La Primavera.

Newcastle fans deserve better

OK Football Finder 10 May @ 04:21 PM EST

Going going.........?

Am I the only one thinking that Newcastle will finish bottom of the Premier League this season? After selling their best player in Shay Given, the team has lacked purpose and quality, and due to the unfortunate manager changes, (of course Joe Kinnear receiving heart by=pass surgery was an unforeseeable event), the tactics have been all over the place, and Newcastle just haven't worked out how to play football.

Fulham Continue To Progress Under Hodgson

EPL Talk 25 February @ 09:45 AM EST
Why doesn't Roy Hodgson get the credit he deserves in the United Kingdom? As I've mentioned before, In Scandinavia and Italy, he's held in high regard, in  Britain people point to his sacking at Blackburn Rovers back in1997. With 33 points gained so far this season, Fulham are one win away from emulating their points [. Click to continue reading...

Cook Explains His Fulham Injury

QPR Report 27 August @ 04:39 AM EST

London Informer - Botched op did for Cookie
Aug 14 2008 London Informer
Lee Cook's woes last season go all the way back to a botched operation - that, and his one-and-only selection as a Fulham player.
The popularly-held belief was the QPR winger was desperate to play in the friendly between his old and new clubs in August, 2007. Click to continue reading...

Should the Deuce Be Cut Loose?

USA Soccer Spot 26 August @ 07:44 AM EST

The lone American goal scorer from World Cup 2006 now has consistently played so poorly for the national team if the opponent is not Barbados, that his presence seems to actually help stagnate the side. Dempsey's last good performance for the National Team against a decent opponent was last October in Switzerland.

Hodgson Looks To Build On The Great Escape

EPL Talk 13 August @ 06:19 PM EST
Roy Hodgson is one of the great unsung English managers of the last 30 years and I'm a big fan of Englands most underated manager. A polite, erudite professor of the game and an intelligent, well spoken man, he's simply never received the recognition his career and achievements deserve in England due to the majority of his success being on [. Ben Watson Set to Sign for QPR?...Lee Cook - Year Flashback: Cook Joins Fulham

QPR Report 19 July @ 01:49 AM EST
-
Obviously reading this, it's almost a case of deja vu/"been there; done that" but given that the other top contender for Watson, Birmingham have been signing other players; and given that Watson has a declining value to Palace, sounds (hopefully) plausible.
According to today's Mirror (via BBC Gossip)
"QPR manager Iain Dowie is expected to complete the signing of Ben Watson from Crystal Palace for £1. Click to continue reading...

Rangers sign Lafferty

Craven Cottage Newsround 17 June @ 06:00 AM EST
Interesting. Lafferty was, of course, a Lawrie Sanchez target. What intrigues me is the possibility of Rangers being a Northern Ireland attraction. We know that the blue half of Glasgow and the North part of Ireland are aligned through religion, just as Ireland and Celtic are linked; I wonder if [. Click to continue reading...

“Save Our Sven” or the Best Manager Tribute Videos of 2007/2008

The Groundsman's Shed 02 May @ 07:09 AM EST
The more beloved the manager, the more plentiful the videos (usually set to the tune of Frank Sinatra's "My Way") that are made in his honor and posted on youtube.  After watching this "Save Our Sven" video sent to me this morning from the one Man City fan who doesn't think I was slagging off their fans/club in an earlier post meant for [. Lawrie Sanchez disdained by Fulham’s treatment

Caught Offside 14 February @ 10:43 AM EST
Lawrie Sanchez has been without a managerial job since December 2007 when Premiership strugglers Fulham sacked him after he led the Fools to the bottom three in the league. Fulham thought that Sanchez was not good enough to sustain the London club in the top flight and so decided to get rid of him. But [. Click to continue reading...

Goodbye, Lawrie Sanchez

English Soccer Talk 21 December @ 03:56 PM EST
Another Premiership manager has bitten the dust as Fulham fired Lawrie Sanchez today with immediate effect.

STUFF NIGEL AND GET LAWRIE BACK!!!

A Wee Spot in Europe 21 December @ 08:29 AM EST

Following Lawrie Sanchez' sacking by Fulham, surely any right thinking person will hope the IFA do all that is humanly possible to reinstate him in the NI job. I remind readers of what Lorry said on the 14th of May 2007:

"There is never a good time to go but as I've always said I would rather go when the team is on a high than have to leave because the team is doing poorly.

Sanchez leaves Fulham - Collins to return as boss?

Caught Offside 21 December @ 08:19 AM EST
The BBC have just reported that Fulham and Lawrie Sanchez have parted company. Sanchez had only been in charge at Craven Cottage for eight months, although the Cottagers have been struggling badly this season and currently occupy 18th-place in the Premier League. "Ray Lewington and Billy McKinlay will be in charge of the team whilst [. Click to continue reading...

Today's Banter: Torres left off Spain (yes!), Hicks after Roma?, Fulham post-match rubbish, & more

Anfield Banter 12 November @ 12:42 PM EST
Luis Aragonés just became my favorite international manager. The 69-year-old Spaniard decided not to call-up Fernando Torres for Spain's two Euro-qualifiers with Sweden and Northern Ireland. With Xabi injured and Arbeloa not under consideration, it means only Pepe Reina will be with La Furia Roja, though with Iker Casillas still the number one, Reina probably won't play. Today's Banter: Gerrard named to FIFPro World XI, Sanchez praises Rafa, Pako to West Ham? & more

Anfield Banter 09 November @ 07:28 AM EST
Steven Gerrard has added another honor to his long list of accolades by being named to the 2006-07 FIFPro XI. Surprisingly, it's the first time he's won the distinction. He also became the first Liverpool player to be named to the list, which is selected by 'more than 57,000 footballers from players' associations around the world.' A bit baffling as to why Gianluigi Buffon was named to the side though. Click to continue reading...
