Laurent Blanc is flavour of the month at the moment after winning the league with Bordeaux and
currently standing top of his Champions League group, which contains Juventus and Bayern
Munich.
Back in May, RoM looked at the reasons why Blanc should replace Sir Alex Ferguson, but Eric
Cantona wants him to be the next manager of France.

We continue to edge closer to United related news, but this was too difficult to pass up. When
the King speaks we have to listen:
"I think that Raymond Domenech is the worst coach in French football since Louis XVI. If it was
up to me, I'd put (Bordeaux coach) Laurent Blanc in charge of the France team," the former
Manchester United hero continued.

Manchester United is one of the best football clubs in the world and Sir Alex Ferguson is the most
decorated manager in England. It is very difficult to replace this man once he steps down. But that
has to happen and happen soon. So who will replace Fergie? I wish Sir Alex could continue forever
at Old Trafford.

French Ligue 1 returns into action after the international break and Olympique Lyon are
leading the title race at the moment. Bordeaux and surprise package
Montpellier are just behind the leaders, while Marseille and PSG are slowly falling
behind. Monaco and Lorient are also exceeding expectations at the moment, while Toulouse, Nice and
Lille are not doing as well as last season.

As we've been reporting recently on Jeu Du Jour, each of the main contenders for the Ligue 1 title
this season have been losing their unbeaten records one by one. Going into last weekend's games,
only two were left and one of those, unsurprisingly, was the seemingly unbeatable Bordeaux.
Unbeatable, that is, until Saturday when Saint Etienne, of all teams, handed out a 3-1 beating at
the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard knocking the French champions off the top spot.

Lyon and Marseille are making Bordeaux's Ligue 1 title defence rather too easy this season. While
Bordeaux continue to churn out one victory after another (and not always comfortably so), their
main title rivals seem all too happy to drop points to ensure a safe passage for Laurent Blanc's
men.
Prior to last weekend's matches, four teams had an unbeaten start to 2009/10, but two of them
slipped up on Saturday and Sunday.

After a sensational run of five league games unbeaten, newly-promoted Montpellier were finally put
to the sword in a comprehensive 4-2 defeat away to a virtually full-strength Marseille side on
Saturday.
And the good news for Didier Deschamps was that he finally got to see a return on the €18 million
invested in Argentinean playmaker Lucho Gonzalez.

You know what they say about title-challenging teams: if you can play badly and still win, you've
got what it takes to be the champions. The question is, does the reverse apply for
relegation-threatened teams?
Grenoble are challenging the theory at the moment, that's for sure. Having played five and lost
five so far this season, they've played well more often than not and yet still won nothing for
their efforts.

L'Europa ribalta l'Italia
Juve in fuga e Milan in crisi in Italia. In Europa accade esattamente il contrario, il Milan vince
nel difficile campo di Marsiglia, la Juve s'impantana tra le mura amiche contro un bel Bordeaux. I
girondini non meritavano di perdere. Se ne è accorto persino Cobolli Gigli, che al pari del
collega Moratti non ha molta dimestichezza con forme geometriche del pallone di football.

Chamakh has been linked with a host of Premier League teams
Bordeaux's Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh has made a good start to the Ligue 1 campaign,
scoring 3 goals in 3 games for the club. This form has seen him linked with a host of Premier
League clubs, but is he really good enough to be considered by Premier League teams as a solid

we host Pompey today for the first home game of the season in our new Arsenalised stadium. There
is a chance the team could remain the same for the first three games of the season, I'm expecting
an unchanged side of:

Arsene has no further interest in signing Chamakh is the L'Equipe headline this morning. So what

anyway.

Marouane, I suppose he will finally get in touch.

What a difference a year makes. Against odds, FC Bordeaux dethroned Ligue 1's 7 time consecutive
champions Lyon to lift the Ligue 1 trophy. With 12 wins on the trot at the tail end of the season,
FC Bordeaux secured a top dog status with its first league title in a decade. Along with the Coupe
De La Ligue crown to secure a league and cup double, les Girodins wagged its tail at fellow title
hopefuls Marseille and Lyon - leaving the former chasing tails and the latter stuck with its tail
between its legs.

With Lyon finally knocked off their lofty perch by Laurent Blanc's fantastically well drilled
Bordeaux side last season, there is a feeling that this season's Ligue Un title race might just be
the most open in years.
With Claude Puel's side looking to regain the crown they had held in a vice-like grip for seven
seasons in a row, Blanc's men will have their work cut out to retain their title, and with
traditional powerhouses Marseille & Paris Saint-Germain looking to continue the excellent progress
made last season under new coaches Didier Deschamps & Antoine Kombouaré respectively, not to
mention the impressive underdogs of Lille & Toulouse lurking, French football has lot going for it
at the moment.
