During the last meeting with Chivas USA the Seattle Sounders had trouble defending them within
the 18. That problem did not occur Saturday, in fact the defense held the Goats to just six shots
and or passes in the penalty area. That defensive improvement held Chivas to just one goal. What
may have gone unnoticed is that in the previous match with six goals for the Sounders they had 11
Key Passes plus Assists.
Last week the Sounders helped keep some playoff hopes alive by beating the Vancouver Whitecaps,
and in the coming weeks they have a chance to end those hopes with three consecutive games against
the two playoff hopefuls left in the West. Today's is the first of two against Chivas USA, a pretty
implausible playoff contender.
Last time the LA Galaxy came to town they were far from full strength. Thanks to a combination
of David Beckham's porcelain reticence to play on turf and Bruce Arena's attempt at canny lineup
shuffling with another match three days later, the Galaxy's brace of Eurostars stayed home. And
they were without Omar Gonzalez, who missed the entire first half of the season with an injury.
The New York Red Bulls latest Designated Player, Tim Cahill, has been outspoken about his
transition into Major League Soccer but what does his new partner Dax McCarty think?
The 25-year-old veteran of the American top flight has found a solid form all season long while
teaming with a plethora of different options in the middle.
Behind the Axe looks at the news surrounding the Portland Timbers from the past few days. Since
their last match against FC Dallas at home, the team has altered its roster despite fan comments.
The Timbers are hoping their new acquisitions plus extra time off is enough for them to secure
their first road win of the 2012 season, either in Toronto on August 15 or New York on August 19.
Gerrard featured against Spurs...
Image: lfctour.comFor this season's preparations Liverpool made the trip across the pond to
take part in a North American tour, facing the likes of Roma, Spurs and Toronto it was a great
chance for Brendan Rodgers to get to know his squad properly and also play around with some of his
many ideas.

PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan are hitting top gear and coach Mohd Azraai Khor Abdullah is grinning
from ear to ear. The defending champions started off with a lacklustre 1-1 draw with Felda United
in their opening Group C match but proved their title aspirations by whipping Sime Darby 4-0 in
their second match on Saturday.
Sunday was a great win by the Fire and the squad garnered 3 important points in the standings.
As per usual, the Fire got the job done after going down a goal early. The Fire have come back so
many times this year, that I'm starting to get a little complacent with conceding early goals.
Hopefully the player don't start feeling the same.
We continue our series of archived matches of the clubs of the Football League Championship this
morning with six matches from the history of a club that has been generating a large number of
headlines over the last few weeks, Cardiff City. Cardiffs position in the Football world as a Welsh
club playing in the English league system is not unique but for many years it did allow them a
route into European football through the Welsh Cup and our first two matches come from that
competition.
szólj hozzá: Man City vs Southampton 3:2 HIGHLIGHTS
What an absolutely engrossing match. City showing the fortitude and strength to dig deep to come
back to equalize and then score the winner gives an indication of how hard it will be to stop them
from repeating as Premiership winners. This was on a continuum from the last match of last season
with the title on the line against QPR and then Sergio Aguero producing that immortal moment in the
very last minute.
We continue our series of the Football League Championship clubs' matches of the past this
morning with Bolton Wanderers, and six matches from the years between 1954 and 2003. The first
match comes from 1954, and sees Bolton travel to the Manor Ground to play Headington United, who
were of course to later become Oxford United, on a snow covered pitch in the FA Cup.
Emerson's brace sparked a famous Corinthians victory over six times Copa Libertadores champions
Boca Juniors. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw. It was the first Libertadores title for
Corinthians in the 52 year history of the competition which has favoured Argentinian clubs (22
titles) over the Brazilians (16 titles) by quite some distance.
The Premier League starts today, and every football fan should be looking forward to it. Last
season ended spectacularly when Manchester City took the title in the final seconds of the last
match ahead of their rivals of Manchester United. And City already took a title by winning the
Super Cup match against Chelsea 3-2 last week and will still be hungry this season.
Apparently, there's some small sporting event kicking off in London (we've sent our top
reporters T.Cleverly and R.Giggs to check this out), but on the other side of the world, United are
in pre-season. Already having thrashed Amazulu 1-0 with Kiko Macheda's goal, and a 1-1 affair with
Ajax Cape Town, this match notched the level into serious.
It has, in recent years, become standard for some Manchester United supporters to sing songs
regarding the death of Malcolm Glazer. The owner of the club inspires such extreme emotions amongst
the clubs fan-base that it is possible to think that him and his family are the first group of
individuals to have been involved in this club for reasons that may concern motives other than
merely wanting to run a football club and global institution for its own betterment, but this is,
of course, untrue and if we are to look back at the history of this club, it is arguably the
involvement of another family which truly set Manchester United on the course to the position in
which it finds itself today: the Edwards family.
We're deeply entrenched in the few weeks when "superclubs" either go to Asia or America and take
part in a few friendlies to promote themselves as global "brands." Tomorrow, world class football
will be played in the new Yankee Stadium, as Chelsea and Paris St-Germain face off.

Not every U.S. women's national team game is going to feature both an Alex Morgan AND Abby
Wambach goal, but you're usually good for at least one of them finding the back of the net. It took
Megan Rapinoe's first goal of the 2012 London Olympic tournament to kickstart an eventual 3-0 win,
but for long stretches of the match it looked at though the Colombians, with their heavy (and
sometimes too aggressive) pressure would make this a much tougher battle than the Lady Nats
expected.
As the U.S. prepare to play Jamaica in two World Cup qualifiers over four days, manager Juergen
Klinsmann decided to bring in Donnie Moore, a motivational speaker, to unleash his phonebook
ripping wisdom on the team.
Now, you might think that going to the Estadio Azteca and beating Mexico for the first time ever
in their last match would be far more motivating than anything a guy with a pompadour and a track
suit could say to them.
Tottenham's acquisition of standout French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris figured to put American Brad
Friedel's starting job in jeopary, but after Friedel's showing on Saturday, Spurs manager Andre
Villas-Boas has made it clear that the 41-year-old veteran is still the man to beat for the
job.
Thank Gooodness It's Friday, am I right? And what a week it has been for the New England
Revolution. Captain traded away midweek, star striker gets arrested and tries to use the old "I'm a
famous athlete" defense before finding out that being an MLS athlete in New England makes you about
as famous as the Brazilian national curling team, and there's still a massively important game
ahead on the weekend.

The Portland Timbers play their last match of the season against the LA Galaxy, finally getting
the chance to face the defending champions at home. The Timbers have been awfully generous to the
Galaxy this year, as two of LA's seven wins have come against Portland. Saturday's match will be
the Timbers' last chance this season to take points away from them.
Chicago came out early and looked like they were going to try and take three points home from
Houston. I really enjoyed that; and for a couple of moments in the first half, they came close to
doing it, too. Once the second half began, it became more about trying to get back home with a
result. The Fire went into this one with a four point lead over Houston, and they return home with
a four point lead intact.
Two narrow victories over the weekend have the Real Colorado Foxes on the cusp of the playoffs,
but just like the 2011 season the team will need victories this final weekend to squeak in.
The Foxes swept the Kansas City Brass with 2-1 wins on Friday and Saturday. Now the Highlands
Ranch-based side will have to travel to Kansas City knowing that two wins in the final two matches
will net a playoff berth.
