This week, to preview D.C. United's game against Sporting Kansas City, I exchanged questions with Andy Edwards, the man in charge over at our sister blog The Daily Wiz. Here's what he had to say about his Sporks - my answers to his questions about United are farther down the page.
Just 22 months after Sporting Kansas City gave the naming rights to their new $200 million stadium to Livestrong over a six-year period for free and promised millions in donations to fight cancer, the deal has come to a premature end with both sides claiming they were the ones to do the terminating.
The saga surrounding Sporting KC's stadium name rights sponsor, Livestrong took another turn this past week, as on November 4th, Lance Armstrong resigned from his position on the board of directors for Livestrong. The resignation cuts all formal ties between Armstrong and the charity that he had helped found.
This will hopefully be the last few things I say on the Lance Armstrong/Livestrong/Sporting KC situation unless the team decides to address the situation again.
Sponsors continue to flee from Lance Armstrong like rats from a sinking ship as the ramifications of the USADA report on his doping really begin to sink in.

While we are definitely not implying that any member of Sporting KC is involved with any kind of
doping - someone should really be looking into that Lance Armstrong endorsed stadium of theirs.
In a follow up to the news that came out last night regarding Lance Armstrong and him giving up his
battle against the USADA, Sporting's CEO, Robb Heineman made a statement today.
Here is Robb's statement: "The naming rights partnership between our stadium and LIVESTRONG
provides an opportunity to spread health and wellness messages that emphasizes the spirit of cancer
survivorship.
So Lance Armstrong is no longer going to fight the US Anti-Doping Agency and the charges that
they've brought against him for doping. With that announcement tonight, it has brought out the
questions again with regards to Sporting KC and the naming of their stadium as LiveSTRONG Sporting
Park.

This time they're serious!
After LIVESTRONG Sporting Park's big night on Thursday the day after was eerily quiet. Workers were
back on the job scurrying around taking care of opening day leftovers and repairs, but the KC front
office staff had the day off.
But one man was still on the job, Sam Pierron, Sporting KC's Special Project Manager, and he gave
us a really cool inside look at Major League Soccer's newest shinny object.
While the result on the field, and some times in the stands was not the greatest last night, there
are many more talking points about last night's game that need to be addressed. Specifically the
opening of Livestrong Sporting Park. Seriously, the stadium is absolutely amazing. I'm not ashamed
to say that for a while inside the Members' Club last night before the game I was tearing up and
getting a little misty eyed.
Sporting Kansas City has endured a tortuously long road stretch in anticipation of their home
opener. Livestrong Sporting Park opened up to a sold out crowd of 19, 925 as Sporting Kansas City
took on the Chicago Fire.
These fans enjoyed a first class facility, the best in the country most likely, to watch a soccer
game.

cancer-fighting foundation Livestrong (begun by seven-time Tour de France winner and cancer
survivor Lance Armstrong) announced that the new soccer-specific stadium in town would now be
called, "Livestrong Sporting Park".

classe.
We all probably saw this coming in one way or another after all the news this week regarding Lance Armstrong and his apparent confession to Oprah in regards to doping. I'm not sure that we expected the ending of the relationship to end quite like this. Tonight, Darren Rovell broke the news on ESPN that Sporting and Livestrong had severed their relationship with both sides laying the blame on the other.
Yesterday, the USADA released with some information on why they'd moved forward with banning Lance Armstrong and stripping him of his Tour de France titles. There's plenty of evidence that would seem to be fairly damning towards Armstrong's case with plenty of witness testimony, financial records, and lab results in it.
So our President is betting their President that our team is better than their team, or something
like that. Take a look at the latest wager from FCD President & CEO Doug Quinn (a Kansas City guy
and Shawnee Mission East grad):Kansas City Wizards President Robb Heineman has accepted a
"Charity Challenge" from FC Dallas President Doug Quinn for Saturday's match.
I'm going to divert to one of my other favorite sports, cycling, for a moment. George Hincapie, one
of the leaders not only in American racing but across the professional peloton, announced today
that this will be his final season. Hincapie has raced for 19 seasons, all with American teams
(Motorola, Postal/Discovery, HTC-High Road, and BMC).
Lance Armstrong is waving the white flag and surrendering. The cycling legend has simply given
up hope that he can win an eighth Tour de France. Thankfully for him, Frenchmen didn't have to be
explained the ins and outs of the art of surrendering, saving Armstrong valuable time he'd
otherwise have to spend behind the mic.
Did you know that Sir Alex Ferguson still doubts his tactical nous? The headline leaves
no room for doubt: "Sir Alex Ferguson: I still doubt my tactical nous". I find this sad. Sir Alex
would seem to have it all: a long record of championships, a range of expensive outerwear, a ruddy
Glaswegian complexion, a knighthood but if you can't trust in your own nous, what is it
all worth, really?
When you hear a quote like "Endurance leads to Glory" you think maybe someone
iconic like Lance Armstrong said it. Someone with fame, money and a very public story of being a
true champion but no, Lance Armstrong didn't say this quote. Evan Mundine coined the phrase
"Endurance leads to Glory" and he is a 13 year old soccer player from Lonestar Soccer Club in
Austin, Texas.
Sporting Kansas City announced today that they have partnered with the Livestrong foundation run by
Lance Armstrong and will name their new stadium Livestrong Sporting Park. Wow.

Junito is three years old. He no longer wears diapers. He can dress himself on his own. He can
also go the bathroom alone. So is he old enough to learn about performance enhancing drugs? How
young is too young? More importantly, how old is too late?
The dilemma surfaced in the least expected of ways with Junito's current drink of choice.
The 2013 USA Pro Challenge Host Cities Time for one of my diversions into another of my favorite sports, pro cycling. Yes, I know, its been a bad offseason for cycling with Lance Armstrong admitting what many people have known for a while. He doped. The sport shouldn't be seen from the perspective of its biggest failures though.
If you thought the end of last week was all about Lance Armstrong's warts 'n' all confession to Oprah, you would be wrong for this side of the Atlantic there was a one-on-one interview with someone equally forlorn and desperate for people to hear his side of the story. We're talking about Dietmar Hamann [.
This is, plain as day, a horrific dive. No, a centerback needn't finish like he's Samuel Eto'o, but stopping short of elaborate theatrics is the least expected.
However, in the aftermath he did something so seemingly rare in football: Leonardo conceded it was a dive and accepted his punishment.
We're just waiting on the chapters on Armstrong and Terry. . The Greg Meyer Column . Friday 19 October 2012. . In Defence Of John Terry and Lance Armstrong. . John Terry is not a racist. Lance Armstrong has never tested positive for drugs. Both propositions have their adherents. The former largely consisting of fans of a certain London football club.
I have largely taken my mind off football for the last few days and the lack of Arsenal games has made it a very stress-free period indeed! I spent an evening listening all about Lance Armstrong's disgraceful cheating and bullying, the rank corruption within the cycling authorities and how they still have many miles to go before they can claim their sport is even remotely clean.
First time in a while that we have a full slate of MLS matches about which to post. Before we
get there, one of our readers requested some information on the young DP rule passed last Summer by
MLS leadership. Here is a link to the official story from the MLS website. Here is a link to a
story raising some of the concerns about American players.
While the players get asked loads of questions about soccer, fans are also interested in what their
lives are like off the field. How do they spend their time away from soccer? What kind of music are
they into? What are the latest apps on their phones?
Throughout the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, we'll be sharing some of those details from the
players through a series of Top Five lists.
FC Barcelona was adjudged the World Team of the Year by the Laueres Award comittee, in a grand
ceremony held in London. This is the first time FC Barcelona is winning the prestigous award, which
in some circles is called "The Osacr of Sporting World". Club president Sandro Rosell received the
award for Barca.
Shocking revelations unearthed from the bowels of the German interwebs:
Men like football more than women. (!)
Well, that's sort of a foregone conclusion which requires a definitive scientific study as much
as the lower reaches of calcio or Lance Armstrong's B sample. But it's true men like both men's
football and women's football more, as they're much more excited for the Women's World Cup than the
women.
MLS commissioner Don Garber appeared at the Sports Business Journal/Sports Business Daily Sports
Facilities and Franchises Ticketing Symposium in New Jersey to talk all things MLS. You can read

questions about MLS:
It was a day of big news today for Sporting KC. On top of the announcement of the US coming to KC
in the Gold Cup, we now have an announcement on whose name will be on the stadium. That name is
Livestrong Sporting Park. Today the team announced a 6 year partnership with the nonprofit
organization founded by Lance Armstrong.
The Kansas City Wizards have partnered with the Livestrong Army of Kansas City for the
organization's 2nd annual Tour De BBQ to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the
University of Kansas Cancer Center. The Tour De BBQ will be held on Saturday, October 2 and
features 15-mile, 30-mile and 60-mile courses for registered bike riders.
