This Week In Southwest Missouri Soccer

Springfield MO Soccer 21 September @ 12:00 PM EST

I see some light at the end of the tunnel and feel like I've got the high school beat under control. I've uploaded schedules for about half of the teams, I've covered games featuring over 20 different teams in the region since Labor Day (with hundreds of photos and dozens of videos) I'm behind on uploading photos to the commercial site, where you can purchase photos and related items featuring your favorite players but I'll keep you updated.

Want To Grow Soccer In The US: It Takes Honest Criticism Not A Pollyanna Approach

Major League Soccer Talk 17 September @ 09:10 PM EST

Labor Day has come and gone, the sun is setting earlier, and, even here in Houston, the air contains a slight fall crispness. Yes, the Summer of Soccer is over, and what an interesting summer it has been. Back on Father's Day, like a Phoenix, the US National Team rose from the ashes of its first two group stage matches in the Confederations Cup to advance to the semifinals where it shocked the football world by easily beating Spain, which was ranked by FIFA as the top national team at the time.

SoundOff: Who is the Hardest Working Player in Football?

The Offside 07 September @ 01:45 PM EST
It's Labor Day here in the USA, a day to celebrate workers by giving them the day off. Because we love a timely themed post here on The Offside, it seems appropriate to ask: Who is hardest working player in football? Anyone who says Dimitar Berbatov gets a digital slap. The player that immediately comes to mind [. Click to continue reading...

Workers of the TFC unite!

the yorkies 07 September @ 11:01 AM EST
With it being Labour Day (yes, our American friends, we spell it with a "u"), The Yorkies want to celebrate the true workers who have so far worn the Red for Toronto FC. Channelling the proletariat spirit of Karl Marx we offer you a starting line-up of the most blue collar, hard working and enthusiastic lads to run out on our Eastern Bloc era artificial turf. A FIFA International Labor Day Weekend in Football - US, Mexico, & Brazil Win

The Zygo Soccer Report 06 September @ 02:25 PM EST
It's Labor Day weekend here in the United States and a FIFA International Break around the world. Despite the International Break for World Cup Qualifiers, there were still some league matches in the US, Mexico, and Brazil. Thankfully, the Houston Dynamo, with 3 players called up to the US National Team, had the weekend off. Click to continue reading...

Looking Forward To The Fall Season!

On The Pitch 06 September @ 11:46 AM EST

Pretty scary how fast the summer can fly by! The fall season is already underway for our Rec teams and most of our travel teams have been in pre-season tournaments before the start of their season after Labor Day. I've missed writing, but certainly haven't been sitting idly by in Margaritaville. Besides opening a new business here in town (that finally is close to being 'ready' took much longer than I expected), I'm president of our local league again and am coaching a number of Rec teams in addition to my 96 Girls travel team, the Lunachicks.

Summer’s Last Signing

AEK Archives 05 September @ 05:36 AM EST

This weekend (Labor Day Weekend here in the May-Day-Hating United States) signals the end of the Summer. Â The other thing that always signals the end of Summer for me is the closing of the transfer window. Â It's done now, but not before we squeezed in two last signings. Â I meant to post this a few days ago, but better late than never:

FC Twente have captured Perparim Hetemaj from AEK Athens FC in a swap deal that takes Dutch midfielder Youssouf Hersi from the Netherlands to the Greek capital.

With World Cup qualifying in full flow there are only three MLS games this weekend, (MLS always has trouble attracting fans on Labor day weekend anyway).

Previewing the Weekend's Soccer Action

Fire Confidential | ChicagoNow 04 September @ 05:20 AM EST

The Fire may be sitting at home enjoying their bye week this Labor Day weekend, but the rest of the soccer world isn't slowing down one bit. Apart from featuring a few solid MLS matchups, this weekend is packed with some absolutely huge World Cup Qualifiers. So, without a Fire preview to do, I thought that I'd go through some of the weekend's top matches, give them a little preview and maybe even share a prediction or two.

How’s Your Weekend Look

Springfield MO Soccer 03 September @ 10:13 AM EST

My life is almost ready for a routine again, especially with Labor Day ready to come and go. I'll get an early start by attending a pair of games this evening. And I'll finally be in one place as of this evening allowing me to get into the routine of covering soccer in Southwest Missouri.

Of course, I don't do any of this myself.

Confederations Cup: United States vs. Egypt report card

Intelligent Soccer » Smarter soccer is better soccer 21 June @ 08:04 PM EST

"I could explain the scenario to you, on how the United States could make into the semifinals, but we would be on television longer than Jerry Lewis on Labor Day."

A pretty weak joke by ESPN's Recce Davis before the U.S.'s Confederations Cup match against Egypt Sunday. In reality, it wasn't too complicated.

WVH Power Rankings: Labor Day Edition

WVHooligan 02 September @ 06:39 AM EST
Not a whole lot of change this week in the WVH Power Rankings. The Labor Day weekend saw the Crew go on top of the standing and the Rapids fall to the bottom of the standings. In regards to the standings here on WVH, it is pretty much the same on top as it is [...] Click to continue reading...

Chivas USA CONCACAF Champions League Gameday Tuesday

100 Percent Soccer 02 September @ 01:48 AM EST

No column today in observance of Labor Day, but I headed out to Chivas USA training Monday anyway for a few brief words and a riddle:

Q: What's worse than losing in the preliminary round of a supposedly prestigious new competition few people yet care about?

A: Losing in the preliminary round of said competition to a team few have heard of from a small country undistinguished in soccer terms.

Holiday In The Shade

Du Nord 01 September @ 10:35 AM EST
So as the cops slam the political protesters all over my city for the 4th day in a row, and getting worse, I took the day off.
Labor Day we call it.
Nice name. Too bad our own government has so little respect for the people who do the actual labor these days.
But I shouldn't complain right? Click to continue reading...
