It may not have been the most difficult challenge that FC Barcelona would have to face in their
quest to become FIFA Club World Cup winners. That, however, did not dampen the celebrations as the
Spanish and European champions strolled their way past a poor Santos FC team courtesy of a 4-0
victory.
The seventeenth round of the 2011 Torneo Apertura is already underway, with Estudiantes just having

A Luis Suarez double within the space of five second-half minutes against Peru in La Plata last
night was enough to see Uruguay book themselves a spot in the Copa America final against either
Paraguay or Venezuela (the other semi is tonight), thus keeping La Celeste's hopes of snagging
themselves a record 15th title alive and, indeed, kicking.

Paraguay celebrate their penalty shoot-out success against Brazil
The Copa America is defying all expectations as tournament hosts Argentina and defending
champions Brazil both went out at the quarter-final stage this weekend. Even when one takes into
consideration Venezuela's progress to their first ever semi-final and Peru's extra-time triumph
over Colombia it is fair to say that this year's tournament is one of the most open ever
staged.

The host nation, boasting an all-star lineup including Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez, had opening
night nerves in La Plata, allowing Bolivia to steal a lead two minutes after half time through
Edivaldo Rojas.
Hosts Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw by modest Bolivia in the opening match of Copa America 2011
in La Plata on Friday night. Edvialdo Rojas silenced the home crowd with a clever goal in the 48th

The opening match of the 2011 Copa America wasn't the spectacle we were hoping for. On a cold
night in La Plata, with the pitch not in perfect condition, Argentina battled Bolivia to a 1-1
draw. But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the opening match were the goals that were
scored.
The 43rd Copa América kicked off in La Plata on Friday night, and once again Bolivia were the side
charged with playing the hosts on the opening day, as they did in the previous two editions in 2007
and 2004. ... Continue reading →
