A Measured Response

The Offside - DC United 29 July @ 08:57 AM EDT

I think going to bed last night before doing my writeup on the Champions League qualifier last night was for the best. I wasn't to the point of clear thought last night, so I figured if I slept on it, I would come up with something more balanced to say.

Champions League prelims: DCU 1 - Firpo 1

A difficult result to swallow at home, eh? A bad defensive giveaway leads to Firpos goal midway through the second half gives Firpo the lead, before Jaime Moreno puts away a goal from the penalty spot just before halftime. United now has to go to El Salvador next Tuesday (Aug. 4) for the return leg and pull out a win - never an easy task in Central America.

This won't take long. I'll put in about the time that Tommy did for his team selection. Remind me again about the FO's commitment to international competition. Aren't they always claiming that we "need" to be involved in these types of tournaments?... Click to continue reading...

United takes a short break from League play this evening as it hosts El Salvador's CD LA Firpo at RFK Stadium (8 p.m. ET) in the preliminary round of CONCACAF Champions League.
