The Deep Read on Kyle Martino

The Offside Rules 10 August @ 02:48 PM EST
From the Connecticut Post comes the longest article I think I have ever seen on Kyle Martino. Honestly, I don't think the dude got this much ink when he was playing. Or when he was on The Price is Right. I guess it's like they say and that you are never appreciated until they are gone. Or you are on ESPN. Click to continue reading...

There are a'plenty on the USA's roster for tonight's game in the nation's capital:
  • Santino Quaranta plays for D.C. United and hails from Baltimore, Md.
  • Kyle Martino is from up the BW Parkway in nearby Crofton, Md.
  • Freddy Adu calls Potomac, Md., home when not in Europe and started his career at United
  • Clarence Goodson is from the other side of the Potomac River, born and raised in Alexandria, Va.

REPORT: 80 Seconds and the Future of US Soccer Commentary

MLS Rumors 19 June @ 10:37 AM EST
A great article comes our way today courtesy of Soccer America. If you have not read it yet, read it here in it's entirety.
It touches on an oft repeated complaint of many a soccer fan including many of us here at MLSR. That American announcers just don't know when to shut it up and let a game breathe. Click to continue reading...

5 Burning Questions: Substitute Teachers Edition

The Offside Rules 05 June @ 10:30 AM EST
Kyle Martino and Glenn Davis ask the questions, SF gives the answers:
1. Not RBNY.
2. Getting a good cheesesteak (with wiz).
3. He will inspire them to update their wardrobes.
4. He will punch you in the face if you don't let him score.
5. Not RBNY. Click to continue reading...

MLSnet's Exclusive Beckham Interview

The Offside Rules 03 June @ 10:51 AM EST
And so begins the next phase of the David Beckham charm offensive. You may recall him taking to the Sportscenter and Today Show airwaves a few months ago at the onset of his Italian tryst to calm the nerves of the nation's obviously disappointed cougars and soccer fans. With the Serie A season now over and his Los Angeles-based work release program due to resume next month, dude is out on the campaign trail trying to win back broken hearts and disinterested minds from a swank Milanese hotel with the help of my all-time favorite Price is Right afficianado own Kyle Martino. Former Galaxy Guys — Where Are They Now?

The Offside - LA Galaxy 20 May @ 10:46 AM EST

Ever wonder what happened to the guys from long ago? Yeah, me too, but that will take a little more digging. Until then, here's the latest on the latest former Galaxy guys.

After training with Seattle Sounders FC in the preseason, Ely Allen is now playing for USL's (Premier Development League) Seattle Wolves FC.

The Thursday Night Hype: Chivas USA v. New England

The Offside Rules 10 September @ 10:36 AM EST
I don't know if Kyle Martino will be on the mic again for this week's MLS Primetime match on ESPN but I'd like to give him props for being totally not awful last week. He & Stoner are no Harkes & Dellacamera, but who is. Still I'd like to see him stick around, perhaps teamed up with Glen Davis as the permanent backup team. Click to continue reading...

Guess Who We Have News On? Kyle Martino, That’s Who!

The Offside - LA Galaxy 11 August @ 11:51 AM EST

Despite the fact that Kyle Martino is not a Galaxy guy this year, I still have him on my google alerts emails notices you get whenever somebody's name appears somewhere on the web.

For most of the season, my news has been about people unrelated to Kyle a whole lot of graduation announcements for one person named "Kyle Something" and another named "Something Martino.

TRADE: Kyle Martino to ???

MLS Rumors 19 February @ 10:13 PM EST
Rating: 3 (Possible)
We just received an email from someone in LA who states that the 27 year old LA Galaxy mifielder may be traded to "a club in the east" for unspecified compensation.
We rate this as a 3 (Possible) because a quick look at who LA brought to Hawaii for the Pan Pacific Championship reveals that Martino wase left behind, as would be the case if a trade was looming. Click to continue reading...

Chivas 3-0 LA: Two Kicks to the Moldering Corpse

Center Holds It 14 September @ 02:55 PM EST
Last night, for the first time in my time as a Major League Soccer (MLS) fan, I pulled for the Los Angeles Galaxy. I couldn't help myself, not with them dragging desperately around the pitch like a three-legged dog. I pulled, especially, for Landon Donovan and Abel Xavier, who, together, seemed to be [...] Click to continue reading...

What's Wrong with Martino?

The Fullback Files 24 August @ 03:03 PM EST
I mean - besides the obvious. We all know he's a bit of a flopador and in love with his own trickery. You can just picture hardasses like Mastroeni and C.J. Brown pulling the old Indy Jones bit and watching him flash all his Ronaldinho wannabee moves before kicking him in the nether regions and charging away with the ball.
But that's not the bit I've currently got between my teeth though. Click to continue reading...

Of SJ (congrats, I think) & LA

It's a Simple Game 18 July @ 02:09 PM EST
I'm sure everyone who cares enough has posted about Major League Soccer (MLS) returning to San Jose for 2008 - and that's good for a lot of reasons, as laid out by Ian Plenderleith in his space on USSoccerplayers.com. You can also get a pretty good "wise-guy" background on how this all came together - most notably, the waiver of the soccer-stadium clause - from Jonah Freedman's latest for Sports Illustrated.
