The Real Colorado Foxes made their point and ensured a playoff spot Friday night in a game that
featured six cautions and left the home team with 10 men.
Reflective of a late-season showdown between the top two teams in the Heartland Division of the
Premier Development League's Central Conference, the teams had far more bookings that goal
scorers.
One goal was all the Real Colorado Foxes would need to beat the DV8 Defenders in the first round
of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night.
However, the Foxes got far more, adding two second half goals to three scored in the first half
in a 5-0 trashing of the team from the San Francisco Bay Area at Shea Stadium in Highlands
Ranch.
The Real Colorado Foxes will have to work out any kinks from Friday and Saturday games in
Winnipeg on the field in the next 24 hours as the team readies to face the DV8 Defenders in the
first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The Foxes earned a spot in the nation's oldest soccer tournament by winning the first four games
of the club's Premier Development League season.
Normally, scoring seven goals on a two-game road trip is enough to put two marks in the win
column. For the Real Colorado Foxes, it was just enough to keep the team from its first loss of the
season.
The Foxes endured the long trip to Winnipeg over the weekend, and the two squads made the trip a
lively one.
The Premier Development League team for Springfield carries the moniker "Demize" as part of its
name. Over the weekend, the team was obliterated.
The Real Colorado Foxes came home to Shea Stadium and unleashed a two-game goal torrent on the
Demize, handing the visitors a 7-1 pasting on Saturday, which made Sunday's 3-1 beating seem
relatively tame.
