Portland Timbers Player Rankings: #25 Kosuke Kimura

Kosuke Kimura's trade to the Timbers was met with some excitement and that excitement was due to the fact that Lovel Palmer would no longer be needed at the Right Back position. Kosuke was inserted into the line-up right away and right away you could see his strengths and weaknesses and that Portland did not necessarily obtain an upgrade at the Right Back position.

Welcome to yet another player ratings! I'm happy to report that, well, we have something happy to report this week as the Portland Timbers put in an overall valiant effort in securing three much needed points in this year's Cascadian Cup competition. While the regular MLS season remains dismal, at least the Timbers are looking like a strong candidate for taking home the regional cup.

With tomorrow's big game the first since the trading away of both Troy Perkins and Mike Chabala, there's been a lot of opinion and suggestions coming from the fan base on what the Portland Timbers FO should do with regards to players. Obviously, most of you probably wouldn't have traded Perkins away, some of you probably would have traded Chabala.

MLS Players Union Releases Updated Salaries

Not much new to talk about here from our perspective, but the MLS Players Union has released an updated mid-season salary list for all MLS teams, including our own Portland Timbers. While the Timbers haven't been terribly active this mid-season with regards to bringing in new players, specifically new players from outside the league, the two new players, Danny Mwanga and Kosuke Kimura, you probably didn't catch last time salaries released are now there.

It's a battle of the basement dwellers tonight! And it brings me absolutely no joy in saying that. As the Portland Timbers look to earn their first road win against the other worst team in the league, FC Dallas will be looking to right their season amidst a series of injuries.

One thing to remember is that the Portland Timbers don't have the best record at FC Dallas Stadium.

So, Game One with Gavin Wilkinson as interim head coach didn't go so well -- entertaining, yes, but entertainment doesn't add points to the standings. The Portland Timbers will try to turn things around in front of a prepubescent midday crowd at the Home Depot Center today. If the Boys in Green are going to get a win away from home at all this season, it might as well come against the worst offense in MLS.

David Beckham rolled back the clock on Saturday night with a stunning 35-yard goal against the Portland Timbers in a 5-3 LA Galaxy win

The former England star opened the scoring for LA with a stunning striker from 35 yards to cancel our former Rangers striker Kris Boyd's opener:

Beckham then put the Galaxy ahead four minutes later with a trademark free-kick, Landon Donovan made it 3-1 from the penalty spot three minutes later and Robbie Keane got in on the act just a minute after that.

Saturday night's match didn't start out the way the LA Galaxy would have wanted, but the rest of the night could not have gone much better.

The Galaxy shook off an early Kris Boyd goal by rattling off four unanswered goals in just nine minutes on their way to a 5-3 victory over the Portland Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field on Saturday night.

A new era, an old enemy. Tonight's game is notable not only for the fact that this is a game with the former MLS champions the LA Galaxy, but also because it's the first game in the post-Spencer era. Tonight will be the test for the current Portland Timbers squad to see if they can handle the dramatic change in leadership, as well as the general shake up in the FO.

The Portland TImbers continue to adjust their roster, as they acquire a defensive back from Colorado. Kosuke Kimura, a wing defender, was added to the Timbers roster today in exchange for allocation money and an international roster spot. Kimura will join the team as soon as possible, and could be eligible for the Timbers next match, a road game against Real Salt Lake.

The Colorado Rapids inability to maintain shape continued to haunt the squad on Saturday as they dug a two-goal first half deficit before rallying to tie Sporting Kansas City 2-2.

While the second-half heroics with goals from Tyrone Marshall and Kosuke Kimura made it feel like a win, it wasn't.

Teal Bunbury opened his account with two goals against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, but even that was not enough to put a halt to Sporting Kansas City's winless streak.

The Rapids rallied from a pair of early first-half strikes from Bunbury and picked up a point with a 2-2 draw at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, extending Sporting KC's winless run to four games.

If the boot of Omar Cummings tells anything about the Colorado Rapids season, then things are off to a promising start.

Cummings scored in the 58th minute, his second tally in four games this season, as the Rapids beat the Chicago Fire 2-0 in Commerce City.

With the win, the Rapids improved to 3-1 on the season.

Sporting KC are back to business with a quick turnaround as they take on the Colorado Rapids in the second leg of their Eastern Conference semifinal series at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see how Colorado comes out for this game. Three players that started the game in Colorado are now done for the season, Drew Moor, Caleb Folan, and Kosuke Kimura all left the game with injuries.

That's Jamie Smith dressed up as the Mad Hatter for Halloween yesterday.

Another quick turnaround as the Rapids face the end of their season tomorrow in Kansas City. Down 2 goals Colorado mus win by 2 to force overtime and PKs or 3 to win and move on. On top of the other problems a storm is rolling into KC tomorrow night (probably the front edge of what's rolling into Denver tonight) which could make the game sloppy.

Kandji's goals, in the 16th minute and first-half stoppage time, rescued a discombobulated Rapids side and paved the way for Andre Akpan's second half winner at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Last time these two teams met a great Kosuke Kimura goal gave the Rapids the win and, more importantly, the Eastern Conference Championship en rout to their MLS Cup victory. I think we can expect the Earthquakes to be looking for some revenge after that loss.

Kosuke Kimura, the team's new signing, had not yet been announced and was not with the team at the beginning of training, but apparently he worked out with the team after the press was removed.
