by CARL ELDRIDGE We're not quite in the doldrums as far as Arsenal coverage goes ahead of the
international weekend but we aren't far off, folks. But there are a few tales pertaining to the
glorious Gunners to bring you not least of which is the Daily Mail's yarn that both Arsenal and
Manchester United have both lodged an interest in signing Yaya Toure from Barcelona at the end of
the season.

The carpet bagger wants to leave but an angel waits in the wings.
Something about Brazilian music not being good enough for the neighbours.
Mark Hughes seems to be doing a good job of getting rid of all the Brazilians in the team.
Elano, Jo, and now Robinho. We can also look forward to the African clique, Adebayor and Kolo
Toure, being broken up.

Perhaps trying to dampen some of the criticism aimed at him - particularly in the wake of Sunday's
drawagainst Fulham, Mark Hughes has offered support for big money signing Joleon Lescott:
"You have to understand, though, that this is a new back four and the more games Joleon and Kolo
[Touré] play together the better they will gel as a pair.

A couple of enforced moves anyway for Mark Hughes tomorrow evening:
"Kolo is not fit, and neither is Martin, while there is a doubt over Wayne and he may well not
be involved. Kolo and Martin should hopefully be alright for the weekend, but they are not quite
right at the moment.

Some concerns ahead of Wednesday visit of Scunthorpe following the draw with Fulham:

serious.

PFA chief Gordon Taylor has urged football fans, pundits, and the FA to put a stop to the lynch
mob mentality that is surrounding Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The targetman stirred
up controversy over the weekend by first stamping on Robin van Persie's face before scoring a goal
and sprinting the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the angry Gunners fans.

While Emmanuel Adebayor's infamous lack of sportsmanship this past weekend has
overshadowed Manchester City's emphatic 4-2 victory over his former club
Arsenal, it is impossible to overlook the strong impact he has made at the
Eastlands already.

Confirmation of the new captain to replace the departed Richard Dunne:
"He has all the attributes you need to be a good captain – great enthusiasm for the
game, and is nice and vocal in the dressing room and before, during and after games. And he wants
to drive the club forward.
"We are very lucky to now have that mentality in our dressing room with a lot of the lads, who
could all carry the mantle of being a football team captain.

Yes the day of reckoning is almost upon Mr. Adebayor but what will you be chanting in his
direction at Eastlands on Saturday?
Yes he's started with a bang at Man City but you just wait until the club has a lean spell or a
bigger club comes in for him, then you will see just what he is all about.

A great majority of the football world has grown used to laughing off Arsene
Wenger's dramatic remarks over major incidents in recent years. This is precisely why the
Arsenal manager was largely ignored when he labeled the accusations over
Gunners striker Eduardo's recent "dive" against
Celtic as a "witch-hunt".

This summer may have seemed a bit boring as far as transfers go, but things are finally heating
up. Manchester City and Real Madrid were the overwhelming big spenders during the blistering hot
summer months, but with only a few days remaining the "smaller" clubs are working hard to fill out
their squads for the fall and winter.

If there are players that add real quality who are available we'll look at them – if
they add quality or depth we don't currently have.

by CARL ELDRIDGE Just how good a buy Tommy Vermaelen proves to be can only be measured come the end
of the season but I am not alone in liking what I see so far. I first saw the £10million capture

Someone, I can't remember who, posed the question ‘Could we cope with a serious injury to
William Gallas?' It didn't take long to come to the conclusion that any team, no matter who, would
suffer if they lost their most experienced defender; although, in our case, the problem is
compounded by the fact that he is not only our most experienced defender, he is also our main goal
scorer.

Wenger should seriously consider bringing this guy to the Emirates.
There will be some who believe that the Gunners have enough players of an attacking nature and
who do not believe a move for Rafael Van der Vaart makes sense, but I beg to differ.
The adaptable attacking midfielder who could well prove a very intelligent acquisition and one
who can play in a number of positions and take some of the pressure from our captain whilst giving
the club another angle to our attack.

Siempre me he declarado fan del Arsenal.

The BBC seem convinced that Everton were so bad that anyone would have scored 6 goals against
them if not more. Why talk at all about a team that scored 6 goals away from home on opening day?

Gazidis told us last season that we were financially secure enough to survive the possibility
of failing to qualify for the Champions League. This is probably true, although I feel there is
something he wasn't telling us. It was a half truth. The statement he made should of gone something
like; we are financially secure enough not to worry about the 35mil the competition gives us as
long as we make it up elsewhere.

Some notes and conclusions:
• Not a single draw in the opening round of fixtures! That hasn't happened in the top flight
since 1980, stat fans. So Sunderland, in 10th place, have opened up a handy three-point gap on...
everyone below them.
• All five London-based clubs won!

Afternoon all,
generally its another of those days where we are just waiting for something to happen, in a way
its similar to last season when we waited right up to the transfer deadline and still nothing
happened.
I still feel this summer will be different, and Wenger will buy, however I have a feeling we are
waiting for Champions League qualification before splashing some of the 40 odd million we got from
the sales of Kolo and Ade.
