Europe’s Odd Man Out

English Premier league 18 October @ 06:27 AM EST

Briefly, I thought I would highlight a few of the best squads in the European bracket that will not play in next years World Cup in South Africa. It is never fun to be a team with a reservation in Heartbreak Hotel, but at least these teams will get a brief vacation this summer. Plus it beats making it there with great expectations and then losing in the finals.

Neue Hoffnung in Bochum, Sturmprobleme in NĂĽrnberg

Bundesliga Blog 26 September @ 03:00 PM EST

Vergangene Woche musste Marcel Koller seinen Trainerposten beim VfL Bochum verlassen.

Bundesliga Blog 22 September @ 07:24 AM EST

Team messes up coach's firing

The Beautiful Game (2) 22 September @ 06:24 AM EST
Back to Germany for this crazy story.
Some club (Bochum) had to apologize for announcing the firing of its manager (Marcel Koller) on its website before telling the man.
Ouch.
"This is embarrassing,'' a club spokesman told Bild. "This press release had only been prepared in case it was needed.

Bundesliga Matchday 6 Wrap-Up

The Offside: Bundesliga 21 September @ 05:22 PM EST

Extra Time. We can end the debate about where the seven minutes of extra time came from in the Manchester derby. They were taken from the Bundesliga's three Sunday fixtures, where the refs decided to call it a day after pretty much exactly 90 minutes. It's not really a coincidence but rather an annoying habit.

Inept 1st Half and Enke’s 2nd Half May Doom Bochum to the Zweite

Bundesliga Talk 01 May @ 03:22 PM EST

Look out! Bochum is in real trouble. With 4 games and 12 points to play for in this campaign, they sit just 3 points ahead of Arminia Bielefeld with a dwindling +5 goal difference. Undoubtedly Marcel Koller saw tonight's fixture at home against Hannover 96, the only side not to win on the road this season, as a win that would have almost assuredly have put them out of reach of the relegation zone.

Euro 2008 Group A Final Match Predictions

EPL Talk 15 June @ 11:29 AM EST
Tonight sees the first dual clash with Czech Republic playing Turkey whilst Switzerland host Portugal. With Portugal through as Group Winners, all eyes will be on Geneva. We could potentially have a first in Group qualification with the fact that should tonight's game end in a draw, we will go straight into a penalty shoot out [. Click to continue reading...

15/6/2008 Euro 2008 Turkey vs Czech Republic Live

Soccer Rag 14 June @ 09:38 PM EST
The signs are not good for the Turks in this live online and radio commentary Euro 2008 group match between Turkey and Czech Republic live as they are going into this match with a lot of personnel concerns such as injuries which will hamper their chances of progressing. They will not have all their best players available for this live online streaming match and it will make the job of beating the Czechs much harder than if they had their top players lining up. Euro 08 and Chivas

Donk-the RSL Malcontent 13 June @ 04:28 PM EST
First to the Euros. I can't stop watching. Who would have thought the Dutch would emerge as the team to beat? Wow! Beating, emphatically, both Italy and France, excellent. Spain also look tough, but I'm not convinced yet as they won big against a pretty weak Russian side. What can I say about Portugal either? Click to continue reading...

San Jose, USMNT and other random thoughts

Donk-the RSL Malcontent 30 May @ 08:24 AM EST
First and foremost, RSL is playing at home, they better not look like they do on the road. They have already shown they can beat the Smurfs on the turf, so they better just take care of business.
Really I want to talk about the USMNT going to Wembley this week. The match was extremely boring, I think the best part was when the color commentator guy called Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Alex Ferdinand. Click to continue reading...

The finishing line approaches

View from the Shelf 05 May @ 03:17 PM EST
Having finally decided that someone may as well win La Liga, despite nobody apparently wanting it that much, Real Madrid confirmed regained the La Liga title for the second consecutive year with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Osasuna. Coach Bernd Schuster has apparently been assured that he will not be sacked over the summer [. Click to continue reading...

What an amazing day of goals in Ligue 1

Football is for the Madman 18 August @ 06:06 PM EST
First, we have Marama Vahirua of Lorient, who upset Lyon today 1-0. This goal is just simply ridiculous.
Not to out do himself... but he almost did, as Vahirua scored the second and the winner for Lorent as well on this cheeky redirection from the cross. What a day for the lad.
Karim Benzema's goal for Lyon in this match, wasn't that bad either. Click to continue reading...
