Rodolfo Borrell insists his switch to reserve team boss won't affect his overall aim - to help
produce young players for Liverpool's first-team.
The Spaniard arrived in Kirkby with a glittering CV and has since bolstered his credentials by
moulding an U18 side that turned heads with its attractive style of football.
In our first Academy column of the new campaign, Frank McParland discusses the NextGen Series as
well as the adventures of our youngsters during a memorable pre-season.
First of all, it's great to be back following a productive summer both on and off the pitch for
everyone involved at Kirkby.
We have implemented some important changes involving our staff, had up to seven players away at the
U17 World Cup and seen a number of our lads feature for the first team as part of Kenny Dalglish's
preparations for the new campaign.
Steve Cooper has spoken of his pride at assuming the role of Academy manager.
The former U16 coach has been instrumental in the progress that has been made in Kirkby over the
past few years, resulting in a deserved promotion.
Cooper told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Frank McParland has taken on more responsibility and passed on the
Academy manager's role to me.
Adam Morgan and Jack Dunn both found the net as England warmed up for the U17 World Cup with a 5-4
friendly win over the Ivory Coast.

down to win in a behind closed doors friendly.
England had gone 2-0 up but Ivory Coast stormed back to turn the game around in the second half to
lead 4-2.
Youngster Karl Clair has paid tribute to Liverpool's Academy as he prepares to embark upon a new
life away from his boyhood club.
The tricky forward was seen as one of the Reds' brightest prospects until injury curtailed his
development following an appearance in the 2009 Youth Cup final.
Since then the 18-year-old has battled to overcome a serious knee problem and will now attempt to
kickstart his career at Loughborough University's Nike Academy following the end of season tour in
the Caribbean.
John Flanagan today spoke of his pride at being named Liverpool's best reserve-team player of

The right-back held off competition from the likes of Suso, Jack Robinson, Andre Wisdom and Daniel

Flanagan picked up 41 per cent of the vote to finish ahead of Suso (30 per cent) and Pacheco (eight
per cent).
Liverpool have announced that Rodolfo Borrell has taken charge of the club's reserve team.

final third, and will move up with many of the players to the second string.
Frank McParland has today saluted the crop of talent emerging from the club's Academy.

U17s at the European Championships.
Pepe Reina has paid tribute to the club's Academy staff as the U18s go in search of the Group C
League title against Wolves this afternoon.
The Reds need three points from their final match to leapfrog Everton into top spot and book a

Reina admits he has been impressed by the progress being made in Kirkby and feels it bodes well for
first-team squads of the future.

starlets played some sparkling football.
Barcelona is attempting to re-sign Liverpool academy coach Rodolfo Borrell.
Borrell ended his 13-year association with the Catalan giants in summer 2009 to become a core part

operations in Kirkby has not gone unnoticed by his former employers.

will be many first football academies outside of Merseyside.

as they continue their quest for honours on two fronts.

Liverpool wunderkind Raheem Sterling racked up an impressive tally of five goals in Monday's 9-0
FA Youth Cup rout of Southend and, by way of reward for his progress at the Kirkby academy, looks
nailed-on to be named amongst the substitutes for the first-string's Europa League tie with Sparta
Prague this evening after earning himself a spot on the flight out to the Czech Republic.
Adam Morgan struck a late winner as Liverpool U18s warmed up for the FA Youth Cup with an
impressive 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
The striker showed great composure to drill a low shot into the bottom corner on 82 minutes after
Raheem Sterling's first-half opener had been cancelled out by Alex Henshaw's stunning volley.
