In my NyQuil haze, I screwed up the math. Through some combination of the time change (which
happens earlier in England than in the States) and me sleeping through my usual routine of checking
multiple sites to figure out the kickoff, I was an hour off. As I slumped into the pub, sucking on
a cough drop, I still thought I was early enough to grab a seat and some pre-match breakfast, but I
found a room full of sullen Liverpool supporters and a match well underway.

In the intro to every Premier League game that ESPN2 shows on Saturday mornings, they begin with
a graphic of the world and then zoom in on England and directly to the home ground where the match
is played. It's a brilliant sequence, but they goofed this past Saturday when instead of zooming in
on the Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal Football Club, they zoomed in on the Arsenal Stadium,
better known as Highbury.

As the transfer window continues to creep closer many disgruntled players are beginning to air
their dirty laundry. One of these upset players is thirty-one year old Benni McCarthy of  the
Blackburn Rovers. McCarthy really can't be blamed either. The vet who has been with the squad
since 2006 has been allowed only one start all season and Blackburn continues to struggle to seek
positive results.

The trouble with playing the big sides is that the games can be a bit dull. Typically said big
side keeps the ball, Fulham stand off, keep shape, but don't do much going the other way. It can
make for a painful watching experience, a reminder of everything Fulham are not and may never
be.

Every summer sees rampant speculation that Barcelona will finally pull Cesc Fabregas away from
Arsenal. Â In the lead up to Saturday's North London Derby, even former Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor
once again fueled rumors by saying that if Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League, then
Fabregas will be on his way to Catalunya come summer.

Stroke of luck you say? Not in my opinion.
Arsenal continued to have the upper hand over their North London rivals as we convincingly won
3-0 at Ashburton Grove. Many will say that up to the first goal, Spurs have matched Arsenal stride
for stride but that cannot be further away from the truth.

First of all, wow, what a peach of a game in Seattle tonight. The classic exciting 0-0 game. No, it
wasn't a work of art, and yes, Houston fouled up and down the field. I fully expect Sounders fans
to turn Rave Green into Rage Green, and I don't blame them one bit. Still, it was pretty
exciting.
Fine, the LA-Chivas USA matchup.

The U.S. Under-17 men's national team takes the field today looking to rebound from its Under-20
World Cup opening loss to Spain. The Americans take on Malawi (11am, ESPNU) knowing that a loss
would cripple their chances to progress.
The U.S. team didn't play terribly against Spain, but its 2-1 loss was still extremely
disappointing considering the fact that it held a man advantage for 88 minutes and squandered a
handful of clear chances.

Have you always dreamed of stepping onto the pitch just before a big Premier League match,
seeing things from the players' perspective, feeling the buzz of the stadium, being up close and
personal with your heroes as they warm up, and...preparing the pitch before kickoff and halftime?

Everton manager David Moyes has not contained his anger at the Carling Cup organizers for
forcing a Tuesday kickoff at White Hart Lane. The match will be Everton's third in a six day span,
and Moyes is pointing the fingers at the tournament's organizers.

One of the points in Frank Lowry's speech I failed to touch on in my last blog was the idea of
moving the start time of the A-League Season to the first week in October.
After a honeymoon that was the first three seasons it has become blindingly obvious in the last two
that the A-League struggles to make any impact in the mass media in the August/September period.

Not only did Liverpool shockingly defeat Manchester United 2-0, bringing an abrupt end to their
apocalyptic free-fall and the imminent sacking of Rafa Benitez, but their fans also beat United
fans by being the first to barrage the pitch with the inevitable storm of beach balls.
Though the word was that United fans had bought up all the official Liverpool beach balls like
the one that scored Sunderland's winning goal the weekend before and had been eagerly planning to
mock their Anfield hosts with them on Sunday, it was Liverpool fans in the Kop end that were first
to toss their banned inflatables just before kickoff.
