Aston Villa 0-2 Liverpool Premier League 18th December 2011
Kenny Dalglish's decision to bring Craig Bellamy back to Anfield is proving to be one of the
best transfer deals of the summer, with the fleet-footed Welshman bringing much-needed pace to the
Liverpool attack.
The Major League Soccer season's crescendo was a flat one, but there was barely a pause to
reflect upon it before the "draft season" got under way and speculation on Beckham's future
overshadowed his club's glorious present. All that, plus the US's first multi-goal performance
under Klinsmann in this month's State of the States.

Liverpool employed speed merchants against Chelsea last weekend, with Johnson, Bellamy, Maxi and
Suarez all starting against the Blue Champions. It turned out to be shrewd decision by Dalglish and
his coaching team as the Reds pressed high up the pitch, robbing Chelsea players of time and space
to move the ball.

International matches are proving a bona-fide bane to Liverpool. It has been so since the Benitez
days. Charlie Adam came back from Scotland international duty with a slight injury concern. That
clearly hampered his performance at the Britannia last weekend. Even the hardworking Dirk Kuyt
looked very lethargic and contributed little at Stoke.

Ireland striker Shane Long has been reassured that he will be a Premier League player next season,
despite Reading's heart-breaking play-off final defeat on Monday.
The Tipperary born player was reunited with the Irish squad on Tuesday afternoon, 24 hours after
his Royals top flight dream was killed off by Swansea City.

Wayne Rooney's resurgent goalscoring form in 2011 and his increasingly central role
in Manchester United's build-up play means that he is the key man for the Red Devils in the
Champions League final at Wembley.
Although Rooney had struggled with injury and off-pitch troubles in the first half of the
season, he has gradually proved himself again on the pitch and since the new year has made
significant improvements in his performances in a Manchester United shirt.
Under the management of Kenny Dalglish and Steve Clarke, Jay Spearing has enjoyed a consistent run
in the Liverpool's first team. His displays have earned plaudits and excellent reviews both from
Kenny himself and from others in the football world. The continued absence of Steven Gerrard has
propelled Spearing into a key man for King Kenny.
Valencia will do everything in their power to keep hold of Juan Mata this summer as Liverpool and
Manchester City reportedly chase the winger.
Having been forced to cash-in on David Villa and David Silva last summer, Los Che are reluctant to
lose another of their star turns when the transfer window reopens, despite reports in Spain
suggesting Mata is gathering interest from England.
Any player who grew up watching the game in the 80's would have to admit to being an admirer of
Bryan Robson. 'Captain Marvel' - as he was known to his fans - was a tremendous leader and
competitor.
As BBC Sport reports that the former Manchester United and England captain has undergone surgery
for throat cancer, we wish 'Captain Marvel' the swiftest and safest of recoveries.
Balestier Khalsa apparently made it a priority to hold on to their key man - Paul Cunningham
(pictured above) this season.
I think this topic has been discussed for a while yet, up to this stage we only seen a handful of
S.League players being used by corporate entities to endorse their products or services.
Reports in Spain are saying that Arsenal have put their price clear on the table for Cesc Fabregas.
It has been reported that Arsenal have told whichever club that is interested in their Capitan,
that they will have to pay the Gunners £55 million for their key man. Wenger has said that he is

Blackpool have lost their last five games, Ian Holloway will be
desperate to avoid a sixth straight defeat. He'll have half an eye over the horizon to his
next game against Tottenham, perhaps hoping that Wolves might offer an opportunity for points after
that. And then Chelsea will come to town.
So Monday night we take on Bolton at the Reebok. Bolton have been playing well this season under
Owen Coyle and I would expect us to have a hard game on Monday.
As Chelsea fans I am asking you the following:
What do you expect from the game?, Who would you choose to start the game, Who/What do
you see as the danger for Bolton and who would be our key man?
A great deal of confidence was undoubtedly restored at Stamford Bridge and our slide toward
oblivion apparently halted. At least for a while. Tonight, with Sunderland coming to Villa Park,
we'll see whether there's enough fire burning in this team to launch an ascent back up the
table.
The CEO's backed the manager, the assistant manager has backed the team, now it's up to the
players to show that they really do care.
