Twitter has brought us plenty of breaking news since it's become one of the quickest ways to spread
news, and the Wizards have done their fair share of it. Wizards President Robb Heineman has given
fans some news today as he announced "verbal agreement on assistant coach. hopefully announe soon,
after contract signed".

So now that the passion/disappointment has simmered a bit after a below mediocre season, I
figured I's sit and look at the team as a whole and write about what I thought should happen for
2010.
Peter Vermes = Technical Director: After 3 seasons in this position I
feel Vermes has done a less than stellar job.

KC will no longer be lead by Curt Onalfo. (Brian Stevens, WVH Photo Correspondent)
Turns out losing 6-0 can get you fired, but I'm sure that wasn't the only reason. According to a
couple KC blogs (DTB and Back Post), Kansas City has fired head coach Curt Onalfo. Along with
Onalfo, assistant coach, Kris Kelderman was also let go leaving Kerry Zavagnin and John Pascarella
as the two remaining coaches.

Thad over at The Back Post has the breaking news, with the press release coming soon, that Coach
Onalfo has been dismissed by the Wizards. The move comes after the Wizards embarrassing 6-0 loss to
Dallas on Sunday. Along with Onalfo being let go, assistant coach, Kris Kelderman was also let go.
That leaves Kerry Zavagnin and John Pascarella as the two remaining coaches.

Davy Arnaud has been a consistent performer for the Kasnas City Wizards since entering MLS in
2002. Playing along the likes of Josh Wolff, Preki, Kerry Zavagnin and Chris Klein (all former US
national teamers) in the KC midfield and attack, Arnaud developed versatility unique to most
American attacking midfielders.

The great thing about living in Kansas City is I can finally go to little Wizard's promos and talk
to players. Tonight I went to a combined SPCA and Wizard's event at a sports bar that was promoting
dog night at the next Wizards home game. Wizard's long time player turned Assistant Coach Kerry
Zavagnin and injured backup goalkeeper extraordinaire Eric Kronberg were sitting around chatting.

Just wanted to remind you all that the Swope Park Rangers will be facing UMKC today at 2:30 at our
(and their) Swope Park Training Center. After that game, the front office staff (including
technical staff members) will engage in a staff soccer match on the turf field at Swope. For
details, including rosters for each team, view this post from last week.

Hillcrest Road has posted a quick recap of this past weekend's open tryouts. They have a good link
to the list of players that made Day 2 of the tryouts. Some of the local players were able to
advance to day two and some of the guys that I'd looked up elsewhere also made it. According to the
Hillcrest Road link, about 10 of the players that participated in day 2 will be invited back to
train with the first team at some time.

Zavagnin will now interact with fans again, this time teaching them how to coach more
effectively.
Last week, the Wizards launched an innovative new program to help fans expand their coaching
horizons. The License to Coach program was born out of the bus trip to and from Columbus for Leg 2
of our playoff series last November.

Thad over at The Back Post recently had a phone interview with the Wizards Technical Director,
Peter Vermes. He had to divide the interview into three posts, but you can see Part 1, Part 2, and
Part 3 on his blog. Part 1 deals mainly with new players. The team is looking at a couple players,
and 1-2 may join the team for training down in Florida.

Blanco v. Hartman last year.
The Wizards Technical Staff, including Technical Director Peter Vermes, Head Coach Curt Onalfo,
Assistant Coach Kris Kelderman and Assistant Coach Kerry Zavagnin (that's kind of weird to type),
are in Ft. Lauderdale, FL tonight preparing for the start of the 2009 adidas MLS Player Combine.

Time to update the list of Wizards players that have appeared in 100 games for the Wizards. There
was plenty of movement on the list, as Kerry Zavagnin, Davy Arnaud, Jimmy Conrad, and Jack Jewsbury
made movement up the list. There was only 1 player who joined the list of players to play in 100
league games for the Wizards, and that was Sasha Victorine.

What most Wizards fans wanted to happen has happened. Kerry Zavagnin, who retired at the end of
this past season, will be staying in Kansas City. Today came word that the Wizards have named Kerry
Zavagnin an assistant coach with the team. Zavagnin fills the second assistant coaching position
that had been left empty this past season after the departure of Chris Henderson to become the
technical director of Seattle Sounders FC of MLS.

Zavagnin after his final regular-season home match in KC colors.
Long-time Wizards holding midfielder Kerry Zavagnin hung up his boots following the loss against

The Wizards loss to the Crew on Saturday night brought the end to the career of one of the greatest
Wizards players in history, Kerry Zavagnin. Zavagnin didn't have the flashy stats of the likes of
Preki or the name recognition of Tony Meola, but he will certainly go down as one of the greatest
in team history.

So it took us a bit to get this loaded on YouTube, with our upcoming playoff game and all, but here
it is: The Kerry Zavagnin tribute played on the video screen at CommunityAmerica Ballpark before
our home finale. Saturday will be Kerry's last home match ever in a Wizards uniform. If he plays in
a postseason game this year, he'll break a tie with Nick Garcia for the most playoff games played
in team history.

Stats from last night's 3-1 win over the New England Revolution.
Kerry Zavagnin's appearance was his 237th and final regular season appearance for the Wizards, a
club record. He finished with 20,516 minutes played in league play, also a club record.
Davy Arnaud's goal was his 32nd goal in MLS play, breaking the tie with Mo Johnston for 3rd on that
list.

Thad has posted this week's player interview with Herculez Gomez up on his blog. Gomez talks about
the game winning goal against San Jose as well as how well he's fitting into the team. He's
certainly fit in very well on the right wing, giving Davy Arnaud the chance to move into the center
of midfield.

I cornered Kerry after practice on Thursday, I setup near the media cookies and he fell right into
my trap. I had to of course ask him about the huge banner the Cauldron did for his last regular
season game. That banner was awesome. I do not know who all worked on it but I know Jeff (Szazzy)
coordinated it.

Amazing. That's the only way to describe. Claudio Lopez was simply fantastic tonight, as was the
rest of the team. We outshot SJ 23-7. What a touching moment with Kerry Zavagnin before the match.
Too bad we didn't score earlier so he could have come on toward the end. Check out the quotes and
notables from tonight:

Kerry Zavagnin was the winner of the week 10 interview vote. He announced that this would be his
last year back in August. He has not seen much playing time with the starters since then but has
not complained. He has anchored the reserve team and continued to lead both by example and by
words. At reserve games and scrimmages it is the norm to hear him directing his team.

Well, last Saturday's game was great, but we're already looking ahead to the upcoming game with San
Jose. Saturday will be our fan appreciation night. Immediately after the match will be a 12-minute
fireworks display, followed by an on-field autograph signing session with the entire team. We will
also recognize Kerry Zavagnin at some point in the night for his great service to the team over the
last nine years.

possibility. Well, now you get to decide.
