Cardiff City keeper Tom Heaton was the hero for the Bluebirds as they edged out Crystal Palace in
an absorbing cup clash at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Heaton saved two penalties in the shoot-out to send Cardiff to the Carling Cup Final at the expense
of Dougie Freedman's spirited Palace side.

With Palace going into the game with a 1-0 aggregate lead courtesy of centre-back Anthony
Gardner, Cardiff levelled the score after just 7 minutes through Palace centre-back Anthony Gardner
who somehow got his head down lower than his own feet to power a header past Julian Speroni and in
off his own post.

Anthony Gardner's own goal gave Cardiff the best possible start as the Bluebirds drew level on
aggregate after losing in the first leg to a goal, ironically, scored by the aforementioned
Gardner. Cardiff had five very good looks at goal (three by Kenny Miller) but could not convert
those chances.

The back of this blogathon is broken now, right. Has to be? Surely tae goodness.
We're moving through the night with a run of guest debaters. So welcome, please, Ross McCafferty
known to the Twitter world as @holyroodpatter
Given the somewhat combative nature of this very good cause, I thought that I would change the
rules ever so slightly and disagree with a former post of Tom's (in the knowledge he is mandated to
come back and disagree again!

Scotland laboured to a 2-1 win over Cyprus in Larnaca, but the goals oh, the goals. Kenny Miller
got the ball rolling with a wonderful opener, plucking Christophe Berra's arching ball from the
ether and letting rip with a looping 20-yard shot into the far corner in the same fell swoop.

Cardiff City will have to wait and see whether or not they will have Kenny Miller available to them
for this week's Carling Cup clash against Burnley. The Scottish striker was forced from the field
during his side's 5-3 thrilling victory against Barnsley at the weekend with a head injury,
following an unfortunate collision with team-mate Ben Turner.
David said moreover, the Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw
of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go,
and the Lord be with thee.
And, by jove, the Lord was with David.
Unfortunately Goliaths have got a bit more sophisticated in the 400 years since King James
authorised his version of the bible.
Breaking with his normal routine of announcing his team the day before the game, Craig Levein has
just announced the Scotland team for this evening's match.
Given that we knew Kenny Miller was out and that Darren Fletcher looked likely to play, you get
absolutely no prize if you had already guessed this starting XI:
McGregor, Hutton, Caldwell, Berra, Bardsley, Fletcher, Bannan, Morrison, Adam, Naismith,
Mackail-Smith
4-5-1?
Another day, a familiar feeling of foreboding.
Or seize the day, the promised land will be delivered.
Mathematically, Scotland still cling to the chance of winning a play off spot for the chance to win
a spot in Euro 2014.
Mathematically, I could probably measure the height of the trees outside my window using
trigonometry.
Darren Fletcher has flown out to Liechtenstein after making a remarkable recovery from a bout of
tonsillitis.
The midfielder, who is also in the latest Man United football bowling video, had been expected
to miss his country's crucial Euro 2012 qualifiers after being taken ill and had been left out of
the original squad.
If Neil Lennon is to wrestle the Scottish Premier League title back from rivals Rangers, then a
steady central defensive pairing has to be found.
That's the brutal reality that the Celtic boss now faces after watching Glenn Loovens and Dan
Majstorovic's latest car crash "performance" in the 2-0 home win against Inverness on Saturday.

please be upstanding for theseventytwo.
Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam has pulled out of Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier against Lithuania
due to a hip injury, the Scottish Football Association has announced.
Adam picked up the knock during Saturday's 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic at Hampden Park and was
forced off the pitch in the 79th minute.

Ronald Koeman lookalike Kevin Blom would be well advised not to book any future holidays in
Scotland after the Dutch referee all but ended Scotland's hopes of making it to the Euro 2012
finals.
With just seconds of injury time remaining and Craig Levein's men headed for a 2-1 victory
courtesy of strikes from Kenny Miller and Darren Fletcher, Jan Rezak's dodgy dive was deemed worthy
of a spot-kick by Blom.
Kenny Miller opened the scoring for Scotland thanks to an assist from captain Darren
Fletcher.
Fletch then put Scotland 2-1 up with just over five minutes left to play, before a 90th pen for
the Czech Republic.
"VIDEO: Fletcher's Goal and Assist vs Czech Republic" was originally published
at The Republik of Mancunia.
What madness is this?
Do I detect a hint of confidence creeping around this Scotland squad?
I feel I do.
So let us pause a while and pay some small tribute to the still oft maligned Craig Levein.
The disaster of the 4-6-0 formation in the away tie against Czech Republic.
Miller celebrates his decisive goal
Whilst Cardiff's 1-0 win at Upton Park against West Ham last Sunday was overshadowed by the events
in Tottenham, crowd trouble of a different kind is aggravating Cardiff Fans. Arriva Trains Wales
have decided to stop trains calling at Ninian Park station for Bluebirds' home games during a 3
hour period.
Seeing Kenny Miller pounce with alacrity on Rudy Gestede's cut back at Upton Park yesterday,
despite the fact that the pass was a little behind him, reminded me of the dangers of writing off
seasoned strikers. A couple of weeks ago, I was told to don my tin hat by esteemed Oval Log blogger
Stefan Bienkowski after suggesting that Miller was "a poor man's Craig Bellamy" and if it's
unlikely that
Cardiff have completed the signing of Bursaspur's Scottish striker Kenny Miller for an

January move from the Ger's and is looking forward to helping the Welsh side achieve their goal of
Premier League football in 2012.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist is considering a move to re-sign Kenny Miller for what would be a
third spell at Ibrox for the striker.
Former Liverpool player, Robbie Keane scored his 49th goal for the Republic of Ireland against
Scotland in the final of the inaugeral Carling Cup in Dublin this season.
The Republic, playing in front of no more than 20,000 fans, controlled the game most of the time
made their dominence pay with a fine strike from Ireland's record goal-scorer Keane who ran with
the ball from the halfway line to shoot home on 23 minutes.
Wales v Scotland 2011 Aviva Stadium, Dublin- Nations Cup- 25/5/11 Final score:- Wales v Scotland
1-3 ( Robert Earnshaw/ James Morrison, Kenny Miller, C.Berra) Scotland beat Wales 3-1 in Dublin
after Nottingham striker Rob Earnshaw had put the latter ahead in the Nations Cup tie between the
two sides.
Ah, Scottish footballing optimism returns with the faint whiff of a trophy to play for.
Scotland resume their Carling Nations Cup campaign against Wales in Dublin this evening.
A win for Craig Levein's side will set up a title decider against the Republic of Ireland - who
thrashed Northern Irelad 5-0 last night - on Sunday.
Lionel Messi extended his lead atop the ESM Golden Shoe standings to four points at the weekend
after scoring in Barcelona's 2-0 victory over Osasuna.
Messi came off the bench to score, while his nearest challenger Cristiano Ronaldo, who also
started on the bench at the weekend, failed to score in Real Madrid's rout of Valencia
Saturday.
Jozy Altidore made the home crowd happy at least for a moment at Ataturk Stadium on Friday, opening
the scoring just before halftime in Bursaspor's 3-2 loss to Antalyaspor in Turkey's Super Lig.
Antalyaspor equalized in the 58th minute through Ugur Inceman. The teams traded goals with
Bursaspor's Kenny Miller scoring in the 65th and Antalyaspor equalizing two minutes later.
LONDON, England Lionel Messi has pushed clear of Cristiano Ronaldo in the ESM Golden Shoe rankings
after Barcelona's Argentina star scored a further goal at the weekend while his Portuguese rival
from Real Madrid drew a blank. The Spanish league is the only one with three representatives in the
top 11 Barcelona's David Villa [.

IT IS WHOLE NEW BALL GAME........
Turkish "SPOR TOTO" Super League League Leaders Trabzonspor waisted all the credits that they
have!
Now, after they even the points with Bursaspor on top, have to show that they are still the
leaders.
But,losing 7 points in the last three matches are not showing that they are on right track!

A new dawn for an attacking Scotland?
Craig Levein had already been musing a change in emphasis before last night's win in Dublin,
dictated by the players at his disposal. This was taken to mean no repeat of the 4-6-0 formation he
used against Czech Republic.
But, as guest blogger Craig Cairns argues below, we should be cutting Levein more slack for his
willingness to experiment.
