who bet on the Championship to quickly build up a healthy lead over the rest.

While the big boys were off galavanting around Europe, there were heart-breaking scenes at the
Keepmoat Stadium last night where Doncaster striker Billy Sharp, who tragically lost his two-day
old son Luey on Friday, opted to play through the pain against Middlesbrough, led a minute's
applause before kick-off and then scored a stunning volley in the 14th-minute before revealing a
t-shirt that read 'that's for you son'.
Controversial striker El-Hadji Diouf has dropped down to the Championship to join Doncaster Rovers
on a three-month deal. The move is still to be rubber-stamped but the Senegalese player has decided
to sign for Dean Saunders' Yorkshire outfit after being released by Blackburn in the summer. The
two-time African Footballer of the Year is well known in these parts after spells with Liverpool,
Bolton, Sunderland and Rangers and he has, of course, been in his fair share of trouble.

Of all the people that have come to encircle modern football in recent years, few have received
the levels of vituperation that players' agents have. It often feels as if nothing good comes from
their involvement in the game, but this hasn't stopped their influence expanding dramatically in
recent years and it seems more likely than not that this sphere of influence will continue to grow
as contractual matters between players and clubs become more and more complex.
Sam Allardyce was blowing bubbles of joy as he celebrated his first victory as
West Ham boss, but there was a sense of relief at the final whistle after the Hammers survived a
late onslaught from the home side. "Doncaster threw everything at us towards the finish but I was
well pleased with the resilience of our defence," admitted Allardyce.
The search for the first win of the season goes on, and it takes us to what hasn't been exactly a
happy hunting ground for the Reds. The Keepmoat Stadium hasn't proven the best of venues to seek
